The INSANE Prime of Buster Posey

Buster Posey was the best catcher of his generation! He was an elite offensive and defensive player, something that’s a rarity at the catcher position! He was the heart and soul of the San Francisco Giants, and was critical to the team winning 3 World Series titles in a 5 year window. Tim Lincecum, Matt Cain, and many others have praised Posey’s ability to call a game behind the plate, and there’s no doubt he elevated their pitching staff! In the midst of his prime, many believed that he would one day be a Hall of Famer. Hopefully the injuries and decision to retire early haven’t cost him his shot at Cooperstown.

Mickey Cochrane played from age 22-34, was an MVP, won 3 World Series and had a career OPS+ of 129. Career WAR 49.7 Buster Posey played from age 22-34, was an MVP, won 3 World Series and had a career OPS+ of 129. Career WAR 44.8, but likely would have closed the gap had he played in the COVID year. In 1976, the Sporting News named its All-Time All Star team (this was the 100th anniversary of the National League), and they named Mickey Cochrane as the catcher. So Posey is basically the equal of a guy who was once considered the GOAT at the position, so, yeah, he's a Hall of Famer.

@@LetDylCook That's a great question. By watching mini biographies and documentaries on RU-vid you're already on the right track! I'd say that Ken Burns baseball taught me a lot about the game's history, he's an incredible storyteller and he does so primarily through pictures. Side note: It depends on what part of history interests you the most. The Negro Leagues are gaining more attention in recent years, and it's so cool because there's a lot to learn about baseball pioneers such as Rube Foster. The movie 42 is great for Jackie Robinson history, and going to visit museums in person is another great way to learn. Funny about Lincecum. I remember there being theories in Timmy’s last couple of years with the Giants that Timmy and Posey didn’t like each other because starting in 2011 or 2012 Lincecum starts would always have Eli Whiteside or Hector Sanchez as his catcher with Posey at first or not playing. Bochy eventually said that it was his decision not to have Posey catch Lincecum starts because Lincecum was physically hard on his catchers with how many of his pitches broke into the dirt. Especially when he started losing his fast ball and relying on breaking stuff.

I freakin Love Posey & LonGo Dope when LonGo went to SF …. I’m still pushing for 3B 9 Matt Williams out of UNLV Made 3 World Series with 3 different teams & Won 1 World Series Ring That Man RAKED & Played some legit 3B over there Especially before the injuries If not for injured Matt Williams would be considered by all an All Time Great No Doubt .

I think his mere presence was way underrated. In 2022 the Giants ran back ostensibly the same roster minus Posey and they were a mid pack team.

The Hall of Fame is not a legitimate institution if Buster Posey is not in it.

As a Dodgers fan, man did it suck to see this guy in the lineup because he was gonna rake and also one of the best catchers of my era of watching baseball..stings that he helped the hated SF to 3 rings in basically 5 years..pretty impressive and he also had them on the verge of repeating back to back..very classy guy and only thing that kinda bugs me to this day but it’s probably for the safety of the players was because someone bull dozed over him and broke his leg, they banned the running into the catcher..but still, guy was awesome 💪🏼💯

He belongs in Hall of Fame in my book, dude was good in both sides of the game, MVP as a catcher and 3 times champion is hard to argue that.

I think George Foster or Dave Parker should have a video on them, they are both really underrated players from the 70s

I Loved This ERA In The BAY AREA. We Got CHAMPIONSHIP Spoiled By The GIANTS & The DUBS, But It Was The GIANTS That Kicked It Off 1st.

I'd say at some point do an Edwin Encarnación video. Though he only recently retired a few years ago he had an interesting career where he started to come on fairly late into his career to become a 400+ HR hitter with multiple All-stars and a beloved fan favorite for Toronto.

Dustin Pedroia technically has three rings, MVP, and rookie of the year, if you count that he played in 4 games in the 2018 season

His best case for the hall is he was a catcher, 3 time champion and a mvp and Roy. His numbers aren’t hall numbers but we will see
