The Inspector General (1949) - Danny Kaye 

Classic Danny Kaye! I actually have the honor of being the last person to appear on screen with him ... sort of! In the movie "Pals" (George C. Scott and Sylvia Sydney) I was a salesman in a TV store, and this was playing at the time.

Grew up watching Danny Kaye. His talent has brought me laughter throughout my life. What couldn’t he do ?! Dance sing act and one of the best comedians ever !! I truly miss all the classic movies and artists. Sadly nothing today can compare. The vast majority of today’s movies and artists are one huge bore ! I’ll take the classics over today any day. Ty Danny for all the joy and laughter you’ve given me throughout 60 yrs and counting.

He was a very talented actor, he was a fabulous dancer and musician,his talents were endless, rest in peace Danny Kaye thank you so much for wonderful memories.

One of the most legendary actors to have ever performed. I grew up watching his mastery portrayal of the storyteller Hans Christian Andersen. Additionally his collaboration with Bing Crosby in White Christmas was superb. Let’s of course not forget his interpretation of The Secret Life Of Walter Mitty either. Danny Kaye is different than most actors in that his talent is not only to bring the characters which he plays to life but to give them an embodiment through his own essence. He can sing, make you laugh and even downright cry through his performances. As a side note my Uncle is a chef and had the pleasure of cooking for Danny Kaye......my only gripe was “why didn’t you get his autograph Uncle!!?!?” Forever immortalized and never to be forgotten the one and only Danny Kaye. I honestly think you said it best while playing the Inspector General: “Brodny To The Sky”

At drinks in Melbourne, while talking with guests and the Press taking photographs, Danny Kaye drank his usual Apple Cider Vinegar. Quite an Artist and knew how to work the room. After the Press had all departed, he ordered a different drink. His knowledge of how fickle the public were, had him drinking Cider Vinegar. Parents would think him to be of character, that parents wouldn’t want their children’s entertainer to drink alcohol, so he abstained, and was always aware of how quickly alcohol can ruin a reputation. That’s something we do not see these days. Great movie. Thank-you.

"The Inspector General" what a treasure!

Almost as good as "The Court Jester" (another Danny Kaye movie) [originally titled "The Black Fox"]. Also a comedy of likeness, bearing about mistaken identity. Lest we not forget his portrayal of Hans Christian Anderson. R.I.P. Danny, loved and not forgotten. Walter Mitty (live your secret lives)!

Okay, that was fun again! Saw this when I was a kid and got a tickle out of it then too. Isn't it strange that they could make wonderful funny movies without all the vulgar trappings they employ today to get a laugh? Makes one wonder what we have become as a people.

Danny Kaye is one of my favorite actors from those days. Always made me laugh when I was a kid. Just a few minutes ago I was thinking about why there isn't anyone that can make me laugh and smile like he did so I typed in his name and there he is! My favourite D.K. film was "The secret life of Walter Mitty" which I remember seeing as a boy. I am now 82. It starred Virginia Mayo who was also one of my early loves.

Remember, the pellet with the poison is in the vessel with the pestle. The flagon with the dragon holds the brew that is true. What about the chalice from the palace?

Danny Kaye reminds me of the late Robin Williams. There both funny, great at improv and can do different voices. One big difference. Kaye is a better singer/dancer and Williams can do more voices.
