Love my Go3 128GB. Maxed out the storage and love the stabilisation and also the versatility in use and post too. The interchangeable lenses on the One R are also a great feature. The Ace Pro does look a very interesting camera too!

@@philipbloom form factor, easy of use, features and MAGNETICS. Ok that do not have the same video quality of others, but the way you can use this little camera for my taste makes others action cam obsolete. When I want great video quality for my videos I use other cameras like my main camera with nice glasses or osmo pocket 3. In my travels with my family I always carry go 3 and pocket 3 and the camera I use most is the go 3. I just attache to the magnetic necklace or in my hat and press the record button, always in freeframe mode, flat profile and medium sharpness. By the way perfect video as always Mr. Bloom.
I probably need to watch this five times to take it all on board... Something worth mentioning about the X3 audio is that it's possible to record its four mics onto four separate audio tracks when you shoot. This enables you to ensure in post production that the stereo audio image corresponds with the reframed video image - otherwise, the audio left and right can end up completely the wrong way round. To be honest I haven't used my X3 much recently - I plead a big downsize and house move - and I've totally forgotten how to do this audio reframing. But luckily I made a couple of YT videos about it before I forgot, setting out the precise method in the descriptions. Not a big deal for casual shooting but if you are obsessive about audio, well, improvements are possible. I also like to widen the stereo image a fair bit - out of the camera it can be a bit narrow. The starting point for X3 audio manipulation is to shoot with "Direction Focus" sound setting ON, not off. Yes, it actually stuffs up the sound if not corrected later, but there is a hidden feature. When you set the camera to record with "Direction Focus" in the camera menu, this makes a ticked option appear in the Studio 2022 program. But if you untick that option, what you get is identical to the "Stereo" option in the camera. And you get the option of access to the four mics on four channels. So in my view, it's best to use "Direction focus" as the default setting as it can easily be undone later, and it gives you access to the four channels if you want.
Yes, i saw that when I shot in direction focus. You can bring it into premiere as four tracks natively too with the insta plug in and only use the good audio.

Are you using any specific settings in topaz? Cause holy crap man that’s awesome results. Use the camera for the job, spruce it up if it needs it. Thats a nice new way of filming. You can’t put an alexa on the london eye after all. Lol.
@@philipbloom Wow thanks for the reply :) I have used the Insta360 PC software but did use the old gopro plugin in Adobe. I think I just need to upgrade my computer or make proxies as scrubbing and reframing is easier in the phone app but I like working on a big monitor. I have own Insta360 one x and one x2. I like the idea of editing the shot later but when it comes down to doing it well the footage just sits on my harddrive for above stated reasons. The best use case I have found is for VR viewing the 360 footage in my Quest 2. You do see the shortfalls of the 5.7K but it is still pretty cool. Maybe in a few more years with some tech magic the sensor sizes will increase. I hope that in the future the insta360 takes a page from gopro and has a removable lens cover on the insta360 360 cameras because it so easy to scratch a lens. That being said when I go to replace my gopro I might get the camera you features as the low light performance looked good. Thanks for all the great content you make. :D
I just got the go 3 a few days ago, it’s a unique camera,love the fact that it’s magnetic . The pendant is cool but I feel like it points abit too high up, but when you use the angle adapter, the magnetic strength is weak. I also wished that go3 worked with the dji mic 2, but what I’ve been doing it recording the mic internally then syncing up in post later. Slight hassle but works for me
Ah! So you aren’t using the angle thing the right way, I did this initially then realised my mistake. It goes on the back of the pendant under your shirt.

@@philipbloom completely understood 😊 I need it for daily life and travel shoot. Mainly i am using iphone for taking on the go videos but its not preferred option. I also have insta360 x3 which im not much using. So i am looking for a camera which is portable, easy to handle, robust, produce good quality videos.
Whenever I see the results of Insta360 cameras I'm always a bit underwhelmed. I appreciate you just can't get some of these shots any other way and the power of framing later in post should not be understated, but the dynamic range, colours, resolution leave a bit to be desired....
@@philipbloom First of all, another masterpiece of a review, you are an artist! - My take on the Insta cameras hasn't changed much though: - Go3 - amazing versatility, but the image quality is still not quite there. Topaz helps a bit but it seems quite niche overall and after the obligatory "attach it to your pet" footage (awesome as it is), I feel like it may just end up collecting dust? - X3 - also incredible versatility, but when you dewarp and show a "normal" focal length, the image falls apart as 5.7k is not that much to work with for 360 degree (or 4k for 180 degree) video. I appreciate it's damn near impossible to get some of these shots any other way (but some of your examples I think would've worked with Ace Pro too and you can use AI plugins to remove the selfie stick), I'm just not that "wowed" by the actual image quality. For story telling, it has its place for sure, but I'm holding off for the 8k version which should stand up much better to de-warping :) - Ace Pro - impressive it can do 8k (though as you pointed out most won't use it due to the limitations) and the flip screen is neat but there is something just off about it, it looks hyper sharp, saturated and artificial to me (even on low sharpness). I prefer the DLOG-M you get out of a DJI Action 4 and it's smaller and more durable (not to mention much cheaper). For low light the Ace Pro cranks up that shutter for good stabe and has great in camera processing but if you manually adjust shutter and use freeframe and post processing, you can actually get a bit more detail on the Action 4. In any case, while the current Insta360 cameras are not for me, you have given me inspiration as always, going to go pick up my ZV-E1, Action 4 and Mini 4 :)
Hi I watched your video on using iPhone, iPad as video monitor and picked up that Android was probably better, also noticed or recognised the area as my son used to live in Richmond now St Margaret’s, however I was thinking and wondered if a Amazon fire tablet would work as it’s android! Let me know please if you see this and great ideas!

Do you recommend using HDR mode most of the time for the X3 360 camera? I find the colours a bit over-saturated but I guess you can turn that down in post? What about in overcast conditions? That's where I'm struggling the most to get a good image.

Hi Philip. Did you bring contrast down slightly in post? Your footage (particularly of the cat in the house) shows way less contrast than I usually get on my Ace Pro. Also, especially at 25fps, the judder on the sharply etched background can show terribly, but your footage looks great. You must have used a fast shutter speed for the stabilisation, but it doesn’t seem to show! There has to be some kind of magic sauce …….. ;) Cheers, Ian
Hi Ian I graded everything if that helps. Shutter speed was always at a minimum of 1/100th. It's so important to get your sharpness at zero. It makes a world of difference!
Thanks Philip. I will try that. Just tried it out quickly on my charging ZV-1 and taking the detail down to -7 does indeed look more pleasant so I’ll do the same with my Ace Pro. At 1/100, I might become aware of the frame rate I think. I’m very sensitive to judder in video for some reason. I see that you are using 25fps and for me, walking around would give me plenty of jitters in the background. Maybe it’s because I watch on a large, contrasty tv screen, but I’m more aware of it with my own footage than yours for sure. (Or your videos are more interesting so I’m distracted) I had a second look and at least on high contrast, passing bars, there is a hint in your video, so I don’t feel so bad about mine!! Mine seems to positively rattle when I use lower frame rates and walk around!!!
@@iancraig perhaps your problem is you need some NDs. Movement at high shutter speeds looks like that, check the early stuff on the GO 3 before getting on the train. Most of my movement with the Ace Pro in this video is either with no foreground subject or in lower light.
Thanks for getting back Philip. I normally use nd’s but with Action cameras, you are also fighting with stabilisation which won’t work down there at a good ‘video’ shutter speed. To be honest, I can see judder sometimes with slow shutter speeds; especially on pans. I had a play around this afternoon and tried panning across trees. Taking the detail down on the camera does help. It’s just that with these action cams, it’s so tempting to throw them around while videoing and expect judder free, (even cinematic!) type footage when it just doesn’t happen with all of that background in focus and therefore the potential for a judder festival. I really enjoyed the quality of your footage and kept an eye behind for the telltale signs of action cam footage but that judder (particularly on straight edges with high contrast) wasn’t as prevalent in your footage as it often is in mine. Maybe I’m just looking for it in mine and get wrapped up more in your video, so am less aware. It also doesn’t help I guess, watching my footage on a big tv screen (QLED and very bright for a tv) which shows everything at 4K so clearly. I often switch in black frame insertion to mimic a projector and to some extent that helps at slower frame rates. Perhaps we need to adopt different video techniques when using action cams and learn a few new tricks? Like for instance, your tip of avoiding complex backgrounds so judder becomes less of an issue. It gets to the point where I don’t want to move the camera in order to not get it!! Thanks for returning. LOVE your videos a lot and the quality of your footage is superb. Also, the really subtle use of music. Something I’d like to get closer to myself! I think as I move further on in knowledge, the more aware I become of subtleties that ten years ago, I wouldn’t have given a second thought to.
Insta 360, 360 cameras are the best in the market. They’re other cameras fall a bit short and price range are a bit ridiculous for what else is out there. Watch camera conspiracies comparison against the action 4 😂
What’s a very stupid comment. I am literally commenting on a video full of birds and cats. I feed about 30 birds in my garden every day, some of which you see in this video. I keep my cats in an enclosed outdoor area called a catio where they are safe as are the birds from them. Think before commenting.
