I see the potential of her. The big issue I see is that she’s getting all of these things thrown at her too quickly. I wish she went through the artistic development process instead of doing so much at once.
Agreed. I do think artists have to be purposely about collabs too. I think her collab with taylor was a total mismatch. How Ice Spice raps just doesn’t fit the song, and unfortunately Ice Spice doesn’t have the versatility to match it yet.
Yes!!! They’re rushing her career I think bc she’s blown up so much rn they’re trying to profit off her viral-ness as much as they can bc everything is abt trends these days and they prolly aren’t sure how long the hype will last. But i think for example the Karma remix could’ve been so good if they spent more time on it
if ya’ll feel that way… buy her music. flo milli deserves to dominate because she’s seriously talented but y’all don’t buy her music, the internet support doesn’t translate to sales
I think Ice Spice’s down to earth nature keeps her relatable, and she is a good rapper. However, her team has been working overtime since last year lol. I think Ice Spice reflects that branding is EVERYTHING in this age. You can’t look like everyone else. Something simple like her hair is a huge staple of her looks and brand. There is so many female rappers I want to blow up and find success like her, but they refuse to find their branding niche. They want to fit within the norm of the “baddie aesthetic” which is restricting. It’s not enough to have colored hair, since Nicki Minaj pioneered that look. If anything it’s normal now. In all, I hope to see more great things out of Ice Spice.
@@tochukwuudu7763 idk if a “good rapper” to YOU is something like the likes of Tupac or Jay-Z etc.. but the style of mainstream rap has changed and she is good at what she does.
Although Ice Spice is not a rapper I listen to, I do like her branding. Her look sets her apart from other female rappers. I think that made her too exposed to the public because she is the kind of laid-back rapper you can vibe with. I also think that's the reason why Doja went for a different look. I always thought that female rappers look too similar that, it's hard for them to escape comparison. Everyone on them gets compared to either Nicki or Lil Kim which I think annoys them so they are trying to build up a different brand from the female rap aesthetic which I believe is quite a smart idea. I have also noticed Megan is also trying a unique look for herself.
Yeah i feel like it can two ways : She elevates her craft/brand and becomes more than "a viral moment" or she keeps it at that and ends up like saweetie
Unpopular opinion: instant rise and fame can be a career killer. Most people who become famous that quickly, last a few years and then drop off or the artist themselves get tired. There would be a new ice spice in a few years.
Honestly not even that, look at the recent Saweetie, Latto, and Glorilla all of them had less than a 2 year “mainstream” music career, and it seems that in more recent times it’s getting even shorter, maybe she’ll end up going the Saweetie route and become a Hollywood/hiphop socialite
Yep. That’s how trends work. Unless she can come up with some kind of hit song or collab to help her stay relevant. Maybe even an album?? Idk. She gotta do something. 🤷🏽♀️
Justice for all the beautiful and insanely talented dark skin female rappers who will never get the type of hype ice spice got; and we all know it's do to colorism smh.
@@Suren2122 calmdown, no one is bringing colorism into it when we are simply acknowledging its presence in the music space. Also you obviously don't know the meaning and or extent of colorism because why would we need to bring up white female rappers when colorism does benefit them and it's no ones fault that we run dry trying to name good white female rappers when there is few to none. get ur facts right.
Love Ice Spice but colorism plays apart. Even Ice spoke about it. She acknowledged it and said it’s unfortunate but she’s going to take full advantage of it. As she should. She never denied colorism playing a part. I just hate how society is so indenial to it. She’s cute. But if she was about 4-5 tones darker.. y’all KNOW for a fact y’all would not be supporting like this. Bc there ARE artists like her! they’re just darker. People support with their eyes before their ears. We know this. It sucks and it’s not fair. I’m just glad she specifically hasn’t denied it plays a role in career and cocky when it comes to it. Another reason why I like her. Can’t blame her for colorism and she or no one else (BESIDES COLORIST) can change it. That’s the part that pisses me off. They have to care enough for it change and these people just simply don’t…
It doesn't help that a lot of the ones promoting Ice Spice behind the scenes so aggressively are the same ones who obviously have a skin tone bias. 😒I feel like the only way this can stop is if most people (specifically blk women) stop supporting blk male celebrities, especially dark skin blk men in general, not just the rappers. Because a lot of them are the ones in charge of what goes on behind the scenes, are very established, or they have their own labels. Like when Rick Ross chose a light skin girl for his label over the dark skin one (Eloho has the clip). Even though the lighter one was so out of breath & flat, and the darker one actually had a rich tone and just sang better overall. Then Rick Ross had to nerve to say that the lighter one (I can't remember their names) sounded better and chose her for his label. And for the ones outside of the music industry, they LOVE to promote themselves with blk women, especially the dark skin ones, (or promote blk love while dating & marrying non-blk) in the beginning of their career or after getting into some serious trouble. Then after getting their millions, they make/ support horrible comments or behaviors toward blk women/ girls or treat the women/ girls like sh*t. A.K.A pandering. Brian McKnight, Kevin Hart, Chris Rock, Terry Crews, etc come to mind.🙄 Most of these blk male celebrities have a HUGE blk audience, especially blk female audience. Plus most bw go above and beyond to support blk men in general, famous or not, but it's rarely ever reciprocated, unless she's hypersexual and doesn't date non-blk men, like Megan Thee Stallion, and even that's to a very limited extent. So blk/ girls really need to stop being their life-support and keep it that way, unless the guy is CONSISTENTLY & PHYSICALLY (not just verbally) showing love & support to blk women (especially dark skin blk women). And even then don't give your all to these men b/c most of them WILL take advantage of you.
She’s definitely a industry plant. You just can’t get a Taylor Swift feature like that. Invited at the Met during your first year? She’s signed by the son of Lucien Grainge. He’s the Godfather of the music industry. Ceo of Universal. It says enough.
I think Nicki co-signed that part because her song is called "Princess Diana" as in Princess of the people, not necessarily a cue to her artistry, people like her for her cool aesthetic, also nicki probably hopped in the song cause she's laid back and the whole vibe.
Obviosly the white overrated princess of drama(ts) wouldnt colaborate with a real black woman rapper. Becouse if she does she would be over shadow by someone with real talent and carisma.
Wow i feel stupid now but for some reason I didn’t realize most of her popularity was curated by her team i just saw how much she blew up so fast and was like “wow people really love this girl!!!“
Her Skin tone definitely plays a part big time , she’s got a lighter complexion for the protection , as well as being racially ambiguous, the industry sees that as a way to cater to multiple range of audiences (like cardi b, latto, even actresses like Zendaya). I hate to say it but it’s the truth: if this was a dark/darker skin girl with that hairstyle, she wouldn’t be as popular let alone go viral.
Honestly I like Ice Spice. I think she’s entertaining and a pretty girl, but to be completely honest, we cannot deny that Colorism and her being of a lighter complexion plays a role in how fast her success has been. It’s kind of frustrating in a way. Only because there’s so many talented female rappers that aren’t getting the same shine. FOR EXAMPLE LOLA BROOKE!
@@neishawnjohnson7602 Brown Skin and Darkskin often times fall under the same umbrella. Lola isn’t a light skin girl so she isn’t seeing the overnight success like ice spice.
@@pj45queen Yes and no. Brown skin passes the paper bag test and they would still get some privileges but do still face colorism, but not to the same extent as a darker skin person like Doechii, Kali, Erica Banks, Baby tate, Flo milli, Bree Runaway. Those girls are way more hindered compared to someone like Megan, or a lizzo, and Lola.
I clicked so fast. The rise of Ice Spice is very interesting. Her at the Met Gala my jaw dropped. Industry plant for sure! In my personal opinion she has no BARS!
@@trevorsjI agree and disagree , she isn’t an industry plant because of her blow up, but because of her opportunities. It takes people usually 10+ years to get a collab like that and they are 10x more talented than her. She also benefits from pretty privilege, and I hate to say it but colorism also plays a factor take someone like Flo Milli for a chance, she’s arguably more talented but hasn’t gotten the chance to work with someone like Tswift or Nicki Minaj
@@trevorsj Olivia has been working in acting that’s how she got to star in Disney High School musical.. I think she is quite talented she has a industry push but she definitely not a industry plant. everyone’s same tired excuse of her being “laid back, and chill” irritates tf outta me. just say you’re colorist and go. if this was any other girl like asian doll, jt, flo milli, and etc.. y’all would call them boring, lazy and with no stage presence. wrap this “she’s a vibe” shit up. it doesn’t even make no damn sense. it doesn’t hurt to be completely honest. y’all are hiding behind those things bc the way you treat her vs her darker peers says it all. it says alot. and y’all expect them to be circus act acrobatics. stop lying. even ice doesn’t lie about the colorism. wtf are you guys lying about it for? that’s so weird. she doesn’t even do it.. she acknowledges it, why tf do you guys do anything but acknowledge it? you can support her and be honest. but you don’t and that’s the problem. you guys just get defensive for no reason? the girl HERSELF sat in an interview and says it plays a part in her career. this is what i mean society is so indenial to colorism it’s disgusting, and they all look slow doing it.
I'm white and I'm not super into the rapper scene and I can see that. These darkskin girls are teared to pieces while Ice Spice gets a pass. I guess the industry and the fan bases aren't ready to admit their racist asses over the colorism issues. They only deflect it as hard as they can.
People can easily grasp racism but not colorism even tho colorism is literally a branch off of racism. Like make it make sense. They just don't wanna admit to their colorist views.
No one can tell me she isn’t an industry plant. She blew up with the FIRST song she ever made…and suddenly got to work with A listers and be in spaces where other rappers had to work for years to be in. Met gala appearance after literally being famous for a month?
The discussion about colorism in female rap needs to be talked about bc why are Doechii and Flo Milli and other dark skinned rappers not seeing her level of success
I agree, actually I’m biracial/racially ambiguous. I do believe it’s true she is getting all this attention mostly to her racially ambiguity as well. I love flo milli and I been listening to her for awhile and I was always so confused on why she isn’t getting as much press as these other new “light skin” rappers that come out the blue. I think a lot of time it does come down to colorism/ featurism with female rappers.
Me neither...her current musical career doesn't seem to have longevity, just for the here and now..it could definitely last if she ventures into producing or ghost writing for other artists though, if she still chooses music in the future.
I think haters really helped Ice Spice in the long run the way they made fun of her endlessly really brought attention to her. I’m not the biggest Ice Spice fan but I really love how smart she was about this whole situation, she used her hit single and turned it into a whole ass career. Hope to see her grow artistically in the future.
@@jackhack2167 you definitely can lol but Ice Spice does have talent her bars are a bit juvenile for my taste but I definitely see her going far she just needs to work a bit on her wordplay imo but I still like her music it’s fun lol

I’ll say it since no one else will….we all know by now there’s another key factor that’s contributing to ice Spice’s success…we see this all the time, her features and skin tone are “marketable” in many’s eyes. AKA colorism. I know people like to say it doesn’t exist but but it does so I think that gave her a little bit of a push, as well her being attractive. 🤷🏾♀️ I’m not saying she doesn’t have any talent before y’all get upset , I’m just say there’s lots of reasons as to why she’s blowing up so easily….
@@audreyf9092 true but you have some detractors, I think the issue is some people are claiming that as the only reason because of how colorist the industry is.
@@mysteryno-name colorism and a good team to back her up as well. her hair also helps a lot in giving her that unique feature she can be remembered by.
Industry Plant and it's so obvious. Her music not even good. Princess Diana was good bc Nicki helped push it. I like Boys a liar but that's not her song. That taylor swift collaboration was trash.
Ice Spice is a rapper of the Gen Z generation. They like the mumbly sound with a catchy chorus and that's cool, it's just problematic when you start comparing her to others.
Ngl I feel like she is here to stay. The hate is unnecessary asf. I feel like all of the people on the hate train have barely even heard her. Her song with Pinkpanthers proves that she actually has talent if she perfects her craft, she won’t just be a trend.
What talent? That was a horrible verse on that song that was only made for tiktok. She’s he received the industry keeps shutting her down everyone’s throat!
I feel like she is one of these rappers that appear out of nowhere and gain the hype. Like cardi, Meghan, sweetie and etc. Not saying that they are bad. But having female rappers stay relevant for a long time seems to be a lot more harder for some weird reason. It's as if people are waiting for the a new hot female rapper to appear out of nowhere. And meanwhile they forget about the other ones.
Having an opinion or not enjoying a persons music isn’t hating though. She’s subpar to me and obviously an industry plant, but y’all continue to hype people with mediocre “talent”
No knock to her, but it is noticeable how having a couple of hits especially through Tiktok is common these days. Dark skin rappers do this on the regular, BUT are often not given the push their lighter skin counterparts are. It’s almost like these large companies are more and more willing to put real money behind them quicker than they would darker skinned artists. Like there is truly no reason Flo Milli doesn’t have this same push considering she has manyyyy mega viral hits and has a personality. Like where is her met gala invite?
We should really retire the term “industry plant” Considering nowadays labels don’t sign artist unless they already have a viral song. We make the artist. The over saturation comes from us (reposting or reacting to what the artist did)
What I love about her is that she’s so down to earth and unbothered. She has received so much hate specially in an industry that judges female Artist on a harsher scale. She could had easily taken the bait and responded to the hate but she has played the haters off so effortlessly. She understands how the internet works really well. It’s the Ice age y’all
She is not talented at all whatsoever, and the fact that all of these major names are wanting to do business with her only makes me suspicious that she has some sort of sacrifice, or she has created a major sacrifice for the industry because I just don’t understand how this low level talent is as big as she is
When I heard it I felt old because the fact that she goes by that name kind of signifies that the Spice Girls phenomenon was long enough ago that the two won't be conflated by most. Except for those of us who were there 😅
I listen to two songs of her, u probably know which ones. But she is not a ‘Princess of rap’ to me, I listen to Azealia, Bree Runway, Nicki, Kim & Foxy etc. But Ice is not grabbing me like they are. Even meghan and Cardi are miles ahead of Ice in terms of songs and skill.
@@joaquincollet4291 Honestly I don't disagree that Azalea has treated people poorly and said nasty things. She really is a brilliant artist. It's too bad she destroyed her own career with her nasty attitude.
I’m obviously referring to the Rap Princess title, which means u have so much skill u could be the Princess of rap. Azealia has that skill, too bad not the personality but a title like that is about skill if u ask me
It seems like a trend with new female rappers. They become an instant hit and trending for a while. Put out a few hit songs. Featured by a lot of popular artists. And then disappear. First it was Iggy Azalea, then Cardi B, then Doja Cat, and now Ice Spice.
Doja is versatile enough to where she can move between genres. She can do pop, rap, and rock music if she wants. Ice spice is never going to transcend through different genres of music and not every one listens to rap music.
That Taylor Swift collaboration probably happened to take the attention away from her boyfriend and how he gets off watching Black Women get attacked, and his comments about Ice Spice. Hence why it doesn’t sound good. Ice’s verse wasn’t meant to be there, and was added in a rush for PR.
Am I the only one who doesn't think she's that cute 😩 I've kept this in for months and I feel bad coz everyone always goes on about this beauty that I just don't see... Like she isn't ugly but "so pretty"?? 🤔
i still don't understand the people who say that her rap verse on " boy's a liar" was good. it was litterally the worst part about that song. the song is so cute and didn't need a rap verse at all.

I like Ice Spice, but yeah these accolades are not because of her rapping or music. but we do live in a social media era, where popularity and engagement trumps everything else.
Definitely a industry plant. She’s signed by the son of Lucian Grainge. Universal Music Ceo. She wouldn’t get all this buzz if she’s was signed by a B-tier label. The industry needed a non-problematic new female rapper to push. The last girl they pushed this hard was Cardi, and she is not releasing music or touring.
I mean if the music isnt there then it isnt there. In the next 5 years Ice might just end up like Saweetie, a recognisable name with a few hits and good collabs but not really a music star in her own right
I feel like nobody is mentioning how fast she gathered a cult following. Everyone in the comments is acting like her success has zero backbone. I haven’t seen a fanbase like this in the western world this loyal since Barbs.
her fans are DELUSIONAL she won’t be around for much longer… she has no real talent and none of her fans know what actual talent is they’re going so hard in these comments for an obvious industry plant
How are people so blind to not realize she obviously is an industry plant LOL she seems to follow the "doja cat" line, light skin, thick in the right places and relatable lol
Doja cat ain’t not industry plant tho. She’s been making music for many years now that didn’t get noticed until 2020. I honestly find it hilarious how boys a liar part 2 skyrocketed her career (as a feature) and not the girl who sang the song. Talk about getting devoured on your own song.

Ice spice's rise has been just insane because this time last year she was basically unknown but now she has this big platform seemingly overnight. having a good team can take you so far, just look at olivia rodrigo. while I don't hate her tho, her music is objectively not the best out there but she has cute and catchy songs with the virality factor.
I wish ppl woulda had this much energy calling out Cardi b and her lack of actual talent and skill, like y’all are doing with Ice Spice. Maybe if ppl had kept the same energy back then they do now, we wouldn’t have so many mediocre girls running around currently, but yall told a certain someone that she was “bitter” and just “hated seeing the rap girls win”. It’s funny how ppl’s tunes changed immediately when the narrative that they so desperately wanted to push, didn’t work anymore
There's something about her that is so like-able. I'm a 34 year old stay at home mom and I do enjoy her music but I watched some of her interviews and she seems super laid back and like she's the person who gets along with everyone.

I noticed everyone bringing up colorism. If you sign a woman that’s light/yt, you can get yt and blk fans.
