Scotland looked as if they really couldn’t be bothered and were more interested in making sure they didn’t get injured. Played the game like a game of walking fitba and constantly backwards & sideways. In saying that our record in friendlies is absolutely pathetic,something like 2 wins in the last 19,but our record in competitive games is up there with anyone. Going by the amount of empty seats the Scotland fans were about as interested in this game as the team were.

Great video Interesting atmosphere. I am a sort of outsider looking in. I live in Carlisle; I know loads of Scots including my Dad! I also know a few fans on both sides of the old firm. Recently I said I was hoping to watch Annan vs Queens to a Celtic fan they; partly in jest asked which of the clubs was more pro Celtic. Essentially I have only known Northern Ireland fans who support Linfield and Rangers. It seems to me that to some extent Celtic see themselves as being Irish and Rangers see themselves as ‘British’. Obviously it’s a spectrum. My Dad and my brother in law support Rangers and Scotland but it seems that many Northern Ireland fans are perhaps more ‘hardcore’ in their Rangersness and expressions of Scottish nationalism are not seen as a good or positive thing? Supporting Scotland seems very inclusive and very much about fun, camaraderie, bonhomie, friendship and pride. I am in no way negative about the Old Firm but it has ‘excess’ in it’s expressions. Following the Scottish National team moves well on from the old firm. It’s my superstition that NI are perhaps immeshed in an old firm perspective? Great fixture though and in no way do I mean any offence to two passionate groups of fans. No criticism of anyone’s identity. Just interested in football and politics/rivalry.
