"The Internationale" (French: "L'Internationale") has been the standard anthem of communist and socialist movements since the late 1800s, serving as the national anthem of the Soviet Union until 1944. The melody was composed by Pierre De Geyter (1848-1932), and its adoption as the official anthem of the Second Internationale made it famous. The original lyrics were written in French, and it is among the most universally translated anthems in history.
