@@nicholaslitrento4043 he doesn't write these scripts for free so whether he freelances for simon or is a hired employee or whatever their agreement the point the OP was making remains that he is paid by simon& that he should get paid more
Best. Episode. Ever. Out of all that you've done so far, this is the best. Considering how much research Kevin put into the script and the videos, maybe this should be once or twice a month. That, or lock up Kevin in the basement next to Danny to ensure guaranteed production of more scripts like this. They'd make a cute couple.
@@tylerm.9434 He may be doing it, but why would he tell anybody. Simon should have a cam strapped to his body at all times, so we can see what he really does. Or doesn't.
@@RReese08 All we'd see would be Simon picking up a fresh script from the printer or a USB drive stuffed under a door then pour the rest of his magic spoon he doesn't eat into a chute
Absolutely BRILLIANT! Please do more like this! 👍 Also, I'm pretty sure I could hear muffled sobs of dispair over Simon's simultaneous exultant cheers and horror for getting Five for Five!
I love love love how different writers are on different channels and how they refer to each other. It's a great way to bring together the entire Simon family.
I do too! I love that the writers have their own personalities and get really creative on the various channels. Simon and his collaborators really seem to have great dynamics and relationships not just as creators but as viewers and fans of each other’s work, to the grand benefit of those of us who are just viewers and get to go along for the ride!
Please do more like this. This was fun, and a good way to cover smaller Internet mysteries. And the SAO one was so obvious, but funny to hear you talk about it
Laundry is therapy for me. I refer to myself as Laundry Goddess and run a few of Simon's videos, before long I'm finished. Thanks for keeping me company, Simon. Positive vibes from New Hampshire, remember to be kind to each other and yourself during this pandemic and social crisis
@@ThatWriterKevin Holy crap is it THE Kevin .. *runs ringers through hair* fancy meeting you here 😉 Farely new to Decoding the Unknown but I love your work and I think you're as good as Simon in your own way And that's coming from an OGBB!
This was delightful - please PLEASE do more like this! Kevin, you're brilliant for coming up with the concept. Simon, you're brilliant for getting them all right. I got all of them right, as well, although I had heard of one previously (the utterly devastating tale of ChipChan). Sad about your basement-dwelling writers, too. Now, if you'll excuse me, I have some power strips to investigate.
I never heard of ChipChan before and it's... yes, utterly devastating are very good words to describe it. Especially because she probably could be helped.
It's sad that Simon is chained inside a hermetically sealed studio to make a thousand videos a month and thus unable to regale us with his wit in person at the pub.
With a name like "Casual Criminalist," I actually thought that was what that channel was going to do -- present Simon with crime stories and have him casually figure out if they're true or fictional.
Kevin if you read this, good job mate. Your stories were spot on for not only what Simon would enjoy but his fan base. (In my tiny opinion at least) This was also a fun concept, I enjoy when Danny would these on Blaze. Would Not be bothered if we somehow get a Casual Criminalist type one too.
@@ThatWriterKevin I did it that way. But it would be kind of a fun thing to just have any time. Like a daily thing, maybe. Like Wordle. And if its Simon's app, you know he's gonna put ads from his sponsors in it. More revenue.
This was amazing, and I'm embarrassed at how long it took me to recognize the Death Gun one. Last I heard, Chip Chan apparently has catatonic schizophrenia, the police in Seoul are aware of her, and her family runs a grocery store? If I'm remembering the comment on that LazyMasquerade video right, at least.
This was absolutely amazing. The channel could easily be all this, or even just half this format, and it'd be top tier stuff. You guys should absolutely do more in the future.
As soon as I heard Death Gun, I knew that Simon would never get the reference, and that he'd also instantly debunk the story, because what even is that plot, SAO? Seriously, though, amazing episode! Kevin, Jen, Simon, you guys are amazing! Would love to see more like this!
Awesome video! Love the format, you should totally do more like this! Also there was a story from Korea a while back about how most power strips, chargers, lights and electronics in general are bugged in hotel/motel rooms to monitor guests; and how some of the footage occasionally gets uploaded to streaming sites for creeps to watch
That was just next level... The setting of the mood was so well executed , the tie-ins with BB were hilarious, and the writing was very good. Only problem was Simon. He kept guessing the same as I did, and I really wanted to beat the Fact boy... Obviously, yes, more, please.
@@cartoonhistory353 Simon has so many channels I've lost count. There's literally hours of content released by him every day, it's insane. I'm not sure where Kevin as submit scripts until now, I just remember that I had a great time every time. I think there was one other on this channel and possibly one on casual criminalist, but I'm not sure at all. Edit: jup, just checked, he wrote the Pink Floyd mystery here and the Ted Conrad episode on casual criminalist.
Kevin, I’ve watched HUNDREDS of internet mysteries videos and all but the last one kept me on my toes trying to guess! You did SO much research, and delved deeper than just ten year old videos from RU-vid to recycle and reuse! By far one of my favorite internet mysteries videos of ALL TIME!!! Thank you for your time, talent, and patience.
old comment but last time I checked you can find tons of chip chan stuff online, I have no clue what is really going on but the stuff in this vid makes sense. I wouldn't watch her stuff though because it's just sad and depressing.
This was awesome!! Kevin is a legend and Simon's enjoyment of this made it even more fun. I caught the Sword Art Online plot pretty quickly(DeathGun lol) but I got #5 wrong. Going to go open up my power strips now
This was extremely interesting, more, please! The power-strip one got to me the most, because it could happen to anyone; stuff gets passed around, and around, and who knows where it might end up?
Yeah this was great fun, defo do more. Also having now reached the end i feel Danny's pain of his brief glimpse of freedom and the tear in his eye that Simon got them right! At least he may have seen this video and now know there is hope and some mysterious figure is trying to allow him too see the light of day once more.
Yeah, this was a treat. Kevin knows how write, and I feel rewarded knowing the lore of the Whistler universe! I want to see some more Kevin and Danny cross interactions.
Great episode! Kevin deserves a raise for this level of creativity. He's certainly raised the bar for all your other script writers as well. Brilliantly conceived & executed. More of this in the future? Hell yeah! 🤘🏼
Simon, you're gonna be depressed when you learn about this but... if you haven't already looked it up... Micheal Jackson's youngest child was nicknamed Blanket. That's the one infamously dangled over a railing that people got upset about it.
This was a wonderful episode on Decoding The Unknown! Please continue with the creative and fun “breaks” from the traditional episode format! Simon may need a new windowless panel van to “pick up” more writers if we keep up with these new games?! Lolz
@@ThatWriterKevin Yeah, but now you're able to get a better read at what and how much sets off which of his BS triggers, so you can slightly alter your future episodes to trip him up more and more. Awesome job!
Just recently started listening to the podcast, and this one was a lot of fun. I would love to hear regular installments in this format. My only suggestion would be to back off a smidge on the voice distortion at the end. I couldn't understand it in my car, and had to watch the end here. For what it's worth, Simon, your podcasts are the only ones I have ever actually enjoyed. Keep up the great work!
Very fun, I'm a fan of many of the channels. And the tie-ins are a very enjoyable part of the experience. Simon's choice of writers and editors is excellent.
A valiant effort to free your comrades, Kevin! 👏 This was a fantastic episode, and I’d love to see more like it. That said, as a writer myself (though of prose, not of scripts), I imagine it required more effort than more typical scripts would, so the frequency of these kinds of episodes is totally up to him (I mean, obviously, because Kevin *writes* them, but don’t force anything just because of the audience, Kevin). Also, with this episode in particular, I think the experience as a whole wouldn’t have been as well-rounded had I opted to listen to the podcast version, most likely because, like Simon, I probably wouldn’t have been able to pick up every voice-changed word, so the subtitles helped a lot (thanks, Jen!) Overall, 10/10, would recommend #FreeDanny
I loved this episode. It reminded me of the old TV show Beyond Belief Fact or Fiction. I would watch the crap out of a channel with videos like this one.
OMG THAT WAS AWESOME!! I loved it 100% I didn’t get 5/5 though. But legit, this needs to be done more often. Make this a staple of Decoding the Unknown! Love your cold reads, Simon. Seriously. I’m an OGBB, CC is my fave, this is tied second with BB. I’m buying the CC notebook when it comes out… it looks awesome.
It's a great format, and it's been used often successfully before. If you're british and were a teen in the late 80s, you'll remember Network 7, a desperately pretentious weekly magazine show by Janet Street Porter. But one section was "True or False" - a short documentary which would be revealed as made up or not the next week. There was an american show presented by Johnathan Frakes 1997-2002 called "Fact or Fiction", with the same basic format. So yeah, more Fact-Or-False-Boi, would be good.
Yesss! Brittany Vaughn has recently done this format like from the Fact or Fiction show 🙌 i didnt know there was a british version tooo. I love this because everyones imagination can be more wild than reality and sometimes reality is beyonddd comprehension 🤣
Lol, I knew that was an sword art online reference! But this was fun. I enjoyed it on BB, and this was a fun spin. Thanks for going the extra mile Kevin and Simon (and Jen)!
BRAVO MATE...BRAVO - I just realized this is 2yrs old but damn man...more of these. This is one of the best Whistler’s EVER. It was genuinely excited ng to play along and to experience the "creepy" w/Simon.
Kevin, you are amazing, this was super fun! Please do more like this! Simon and Jen are awesome too, as well as Danny, Calum, Sam, David, and everybody else involved in the whistle boy youtube empire!
This was really fun! I love internet mysteries, and this format was a great tool to remind people to not believe every story they hear. And great job, Simon, for getting 5/5!
As an avid and long time viewer of Siemens channels, I enjoyed this mix up of the norm, but frankly I enjoy the format already very much. Not that a few videos like this every now and again would be bad at all. Steady on fact boy! Some of the best content on YT imo.
This was brilliant. Simon's total scepticism does my head in sometimes on some of the other videos but I enjoy watching regardless, this one though was an excellent format. Also glad to see Danny won't be escaping any time soon!
I think this is my favorite thing Kevin has done. Would love more of these! Also don’t want to spoil just in case but one of these stories I was like, “Isn’t this an anime??” XD
This was so fun. I enjoy all your channels and really liked how this all played out . I'd like to see more like this if for no other reason than to give poor Danny another chance at freedom
Ohmygosh, what a great episode!! I got them all correct, except that last one. I really wish it wasn’t true. PLEASE do more of these, it was SUCH FUN!!
This was great! I'm subscribed to several of Simon's channels, and while I like them all, I have to say that this was my favorite video from any of them in a while. Nicely done!!
I don’t normally get scared of movies or anything but I’m totally with you Simon, the ring was the only film that has ever really scared me, I was up for three days, I was at tween ager at the time but I had previously watched similar movies and they hadn’t affected me
More! And def more Kevin, that was hella fun! Shades of Douglas Adams or Terry Pratchett, especially when read in Simons accent. And every time I watch this episode, Im struck with an "Eyes Wide Shut" vibe, lol?
Kevin, you've done wonders with this format! This was a lot of fun to watch, and really had me going! Alright, the only one I disagreed with Simon on was Chip-Chan, strictly because I thought RU-vid's ToS would prevent such graphic content. I hope she gets the help she needs, someday, and healthy support in the mean time. Otherwise, I feel EXACTLY how Simon expresses about the power strip! This was a lot of fun, and thank you for your creativity! Perfect way to force Simon's hand into a cold read, too. Simon- I went to visit a friend in Sedro-Woolley (Washington), and was told that was where The Ring was filmed. I hadn't seen the movie, so my first night there, we watched it, then walked around the next day as she pointed out the hill that made up the visual motif of the movie, the bed and breakfast that much of the film was shot at, etc. What really haunts me is being told not to go out at night, or to ever walk along the main roads alone. It wasn't until many years later I found out that Sedro-Woolley is near the base of the infamous Highway of Tears, where dozens of native women have gone missing in British Columbia, and we weren't far away from the pig farmer murderer, either. Realizing I was so close to that stuff both in time and place is very haunting in retrospect.
This was great! I'd love to see more episodes like this. Seeing Simon's genuine reactions of joy and horror made for compelling viewing! 10/10 would watch more. Great writing, Kevin!
