loved the podcast. Have followed Matt for a few years and really enjoy most of the content. I was disappointed at the derogatory language used towards the Taoiseach for being homosexual. After the conversation on dealing with love towards people ..just as Jesus did. It was an unfortunate choice of comment to differentiate a particular type of sinner... and no derogatory language was used against any other type of sin or sinner - but this is how Jesus spoke to sinners " ...go and sin no more". With the help.of God this is how we should reach out to others , to share God's love ... for we are all sinners ourselves. Really looking forward to listening to the Breaking Bread podcasts too!!

Praise be Our Lord Jesus, the surgeon who knows whwt's best for us - IF we let Him, which is hard as we as humans think we know it all, but only He does. 10:26 As someone who finished school and didn't do a degree it was a struggle. The only jobs open to me was low paid factory work. I eventually joined the civil service but there was no chance of promotion without a third level qualification. I went back to college at 45 and have since been promoted. The point is I drill it into my kids about getting a third level qualification so they can get a good paying job. Ireland is very expensive and you need the edge yo get a good job or have to emigrate.

Edit3: "Edit2": "10:25 The reason for the obsession with education is that it was not emphasised historically, I would recommend you listen to a podcast called: "Judging Dev" (2007) Edit3: "By Diarmaid Ferriter (He is a brilliant Irish Historian.)" which touches on the education issue when discussing the '50s. People were overwhelmingly literate but a third-level educated populace is not only an economic asset but opens opportunities for people (Emigrants complained about this in that period.) and it was only in the '60s that mandatory secondary education was offered. It is similar with Portugal whose population was only like 30% literate in the '30s although that changed dramatically by the '70s." The scandals were more the cherry-on-top (As awful as the obvious culprits are.) rather than the matter itself. Catholicism was at a high in the '70s but the Church was dropped from the constitution and contraception was *somehow* made a Constitutional matter. The excuse was the protestants which worked for many. Edit: That a Northerner?

I'm an Irish man, and I really don't have hate in my heart, but born into a Catholic family in Laois and going too Mass, I can honestly say I never read the bible once, in fact I was once told that leave it alone, you wouldn't understand it, and only protestants resd it. Bur I finally found Jesus in an evangelical church, and now I'm personally so free now because I was chaned to sin. I know many great Catholics but give me the gospels over novena and Romans 10.9 all day long. God bless

You never paid attention at the liturgy of the word then? At least three readings from the bible and one psalm each week. I mean the bible is a catholic book but the Protestant bible is missing 6 books so not the full word of God. We also have the Eucharist where we join with Christ spiritually and physically as was His command. When I was a baptist I only heard one reading and if we were lucky got away with a hours preaching before drinking ribena and eating a broken up cream crackers. The catholic mass is wholly superior for sure, would never leave Catholicism now

@gmurph2055 That's fine, I am blessed that you are blessed, but don't assume for one second that I didn't listen, I was always a believer and searched for that God given hole in my spirit to be filled. I didn't run down to Catholic Church during my text, nor will I lower myself to refute any of your assumptions, I spent 7 years working in the middle east as a missionary and there is going to come a day when all Christian believer's will have to join against the true enemy of Christ, ISLAM. fine you have the Eucharist, I personally have always had a problem with transubstanciation, but if you believe then praise God, but I don't read John 6.54.57 like that but that's fine. I love the Lord and I know who my neighbour is so that I where I stand
@gmurph2055
@gmurph2055 3 месяца назад
@@NoelCarroll-wv6qd my comment is to merely address some misconceptions. I’ve been on the spiritual roundabout more than once and returning to Catholicism was far from an overnight decision. I entered back into Christianity through a Protestant denomination because I believed the catholic church was a organisation not a religion. The more I studied Christianity, the authenticity it was either Catholicism or Eastern Orthodox, it was eventually the evidence of the primacy of the papacy that swung me back into Catholicism. Truth is catholics are exposed to a lot more scripture than Protestants are so even if we don’t read the bible (which we do and are encouraged to do) that’s a moot point because we live the gospel. It doesn’t matter how you read John, this is about what Chris commanded and He is our king. Christians throughout the centuries, even early reformers believed in the true presence, interpretation of scripture to mean anything else is relatively new theology and is inauthentic. Sorry I don’t mean to be curt here but you seem to be on a great spiritual journey and i am bound to tell you the truth.
@NoelCarroll-wv6qd
@NoelCarroll-wv6qd 3 месяца назад
@gmurph2055 in the words of Puncus Pilot as he looked at Christ, infamously said (What is Truth), but walked away after staring Truth in the face. He is the way the Truth and the life. There are differences within Trinitarian Christianity, but if you love God and follow the words of Paul in Romans 10.9 and 1.17.18. I believe you will be saved. I'm not a Calvanist, although I love some of his works. I was married to a Coptic woman, and we worked with open doors in the Lebanon and Israel, but she wanted to go th Egypt so we worked with the Coptic church and my eyes were opened to the power of God. And the presence of the Holy spirit. The service was three hours long, spoken in Coptic, the language of the Egyptians before the Muslim conquest, after Mass the whole church would sit and commune and eat together. I realised then that this is what the early church done, although I denied miaphysite belief. I lost my wife and two boys in Tanta in 2011. They died along with 41 other Christians. I live with the pain and loss every day I had a nervous breakdown and was in a coma for 37 days. I never touched another woman. I live in Nottingham. I am blessed for you that you found peace, but thank God He brought me through everything so I will leave you with the words of Saint Paul in Acts 17.28. ( In Him, We Live, Move, and have our Being) God bless but please don't put God in a Box because where two or three are gathered together He is there

@@NoelCarroll-wv6qdto be fair, we are on a comments section on RU-vid, we don't have a full picture and so we attempt to fill in the blanks of a comment, call it assumptions but in the context it is understandable. It can be the case assumptions can be wrong but equally, if given time and dialogue, the assumptions might be proven true. Personally, I think, from dialoguing with many, a lot of ex Irish Catholics left a faith they were never truly educated in, one can't blame the faith for imperfect practitioners. Leaving a faith,as well as remaining in one, can equally be psychological as it is theological.

As much as I appreciate Matt, it would be helpful if he used harsh language for all people committing sexual sins, not just the ones he finds personally disgusting. Calling the former Irish Prime Minister an „open sodomite” is unnecessarily judgemental, when none of us can confirm his sexual acts. If one takes this position then we need to also start calling most people „open fornicators”. Let’s remember Matt himself was an „open fornicator” up until the point of realising his sin and stopping his sin prior to marriage, and none of us know how many times he engaged in the sin of lust alongside Cameron prior to marriage. But none of us need to be concerned by the number and extent of others people’s sins unless we’re willing to personally walk with them towards repentance. That’s engaging in idle gossip and slander.

No wonder you suffer so much your heart's are attached to each other, that's why the scripture says if you love the world the love of the Christ is not in you, you speak worldly when you talk of overcoming, you're supposed to be spiritual people speaking spiritually not worldly, Cameron is simply full of pride full of her own self, that she can overcome by the power of herself, when her pride is removed then she will be humble, you're not what you think you are, stop listening to psychologists and start reading the book and understanding what talking spiritually is, it is straightforward recognising the flesh is your enemy, you should be seeking after Christ and getting to know him, to have your heart circumcised from the sinful nature and the passions of the flesh, and this is also the passions you have for each other, this is why Paul said, it is good for a man to marry but it is better for him not to, because of the danger of having your hearts on each other, you have to die to self, because the self is fighting to live, when you said, I don't want to go now this is all self, the flesh seeks to live, this is what Christ overcame in the first temptation the fear of death the fear of losing everything in this world, no one can teach you of God because God will teach you of himself, this is why Revelation that came to Cameron if there was any came from God and God alone, only God opens the eyes of the blind, stop feeding yourselves with worldly judgements and start feeding yourselves with godly ones, a spiritual man will speak spiritually not worldly, and the psychology of this world is worldly it is not godly it understands the spirit and heart not, your heart's have to be circumcised from the things of this world and filled with the glory of god, stop looking in each other's eyes and start looking in the eyes of Christ.
