I love how in the beginning when he starts speaking, the kids in the background are singing the song Óro se do bheatha ‘bhaile.

My grandfather was born and lived all his life in the USA, but his grandparents O'Connor were immigrants from Ireland ( County Leitrim ) in the 1800s. The cadence and manner of his speech would make you think he had come from Ireland, too. Just by being raised by a mother whose parents were natives of Eire, you could hear clear echoes of his ancestors in almost everything he said. Watching these beautiful videos awakens something in my soul. I become nostalgic for a place I've not been, and enamored by people I've never met. I see my grandad in the faces of the old fellas sharing their youth, and hear him in the tales they tell. At the end of it all I'm more Irish then ever I thought myself to be.

@@CelticAtlanticTales Thank you. The song I've always liked that puts a 'face' on Ireland for me is one from an old Clancy Brothers album that I bought at least 50 years ago - it's Bold Finian Men, or sometimes referred to as Down by the Glenside. I've never heard it anyplace else but on that particular vinyl record. It must be traditional, and may not have much popular appeal now days in that its theme is the Irish struggle for independence from England.

@@soldier2297 Nice to make your acquaintance. I'm now in the process of hiring a genealogist trace my Leitrim ancestors back to the mid 1800s. My great great grandfather James O'Connor came from there to the United States to work in the coal mines in the western part of the state of Maryland. I know a bit about him on this side of the pond, but want as much as can be found about him before his emigration. There were literally hundreds of men named James O'Connor who came from there to here - it is no easy task finding the 'right' one.

Not died? Country Clare has no native Irish speakers. How do you define a language being dead then? French is as alive as Gaelic then in Co. Clare as it is taught at schools just as Gaelic is.
