Iron is a crucial material that humans have depended on for over 3,000 years. It holds up our buildings, allows our cars to have bodies, and keeps our fridges cold, to name a tiny handful of uses. But where did it all begin? The Iron Age can be defined as a key time of the prehistoric period that came to replace the Bronze Age throughout the world. The Iron Age was marked by the widespread use of iron and steel, but the exact dates of the age varied throughout the world depending on local factors. The Iron Age is significant to human history because it helped lead civilizations to more permanent settlements and forever revolutionized human tools, weaponry, and innovation.

Nice video. I do, however think that Stone Age, Bronze Age and Iron Age all imply that they are prehistoric or to a high degree prehistoric. There are of course exceptions. China and Egypt have a long history that goes back into Bronze age. The tricky think with Iron Age is that it doesn't end in such a dramatic way like the Bronze Age, ending with Bronze Age Collapse around 1100 BC. Sticking to Europe, I suggest that Iron Age is gradually taken over by Medieval Time somewhere between 500 and 1000 AD. Some of you out there might be angry at me since Julius Caesar, Cicero, Herodotus and Thucydides were writing down history long before that date. Still, much more texts survive from the Medieval period than from Antiquity, and thus the Archaeologists have a great say over that time period. That's my attempt at trying to draw a blurred line between (prehistoric) Iron Age and Historic Time.

Nice video. So, the main advantage of iron as far as warfare goes, was that it allowed for larger armies to be fielded by peoples with this technology. I think that is a bit of an oversimplification. Iron tools and weapons became common for the reasons you listed, but everyone had them. I would argue that the Hitties main advantage over their foes was the mastery of chariot warfare. That is the only nitpicking thing I can point out about your video. I learned a lot about the Iron age from your presentation, good job!

The iron age never ended. We're still living in it. Though the age of superconductors is also here. We're living in the Iron/superconductor age just like the stone and bronze age before us

The Age of Iron also involves the Bronze Age collapse which may have been partially due Earthquakes and other natual phenomena plus warfare. I think that the process of making iron would have been a closely guarded secrets in some locations. The ore may not have been so rare but the processing knowledge might have been?

Well at first your right but the knowledge of forging iron spread super fast at the beginning of the iron age from what I understand wars and the ability to mine aluminum are two of the biggest factors to the bronze age collapse

You missed the "Copper Age", since you cannot have bronze without copper, and it was part of the transition from Stone to Bronze.
@Swampy-ci3np
@Swampy-ci3np 2 месяца назад
Kind of not saying copper age isn't it's own thing, nor have I even watched the video yet, but arsenic bronze wasn't too uncommon due to it being in many of same veins. granted one could argue that untill they were purposely adding it that it doesn't count. And that people just like to forget the copper age for some reason.

@@primevaloldman So what you're saying is that for all practical purposes it's the same as BC and AD but we changed from that nomenclature which was universally accepted and understood in the West and Eastern Europe for well over a thousand years until the very recent rise of political correctness just because of an irrational hatred of Jesus Christ. Got it. This is why I won't watch your channel.
