The only part about this I would change is the horses dying... its just a small plot hole... getting new horses each time would leave him wondering where his horses were going...

When the writer who wants to tell a vampire story in the WH40K universe dares to move away from the golden goose - the Space Marines - by not using the pseudo-vampires Blood Angels, and he remembers that there actually are vampires in this universe, which are a rare race of giant-bat-like xenos who shapeshift according to the race they want to infiltrate and manipulate the thoughts of certain individuals, and that in the end it gives a very good story that ventures into the more obscure corners (in every sense) of this universe.

Though the Vargheists once walked and talked as lords amongst the chattel, these curse-born Vampires have devolved into ravening predators desperate for the taste of blood.

The most unbelievable part of wh40k is not the demons, warp, space aliens and space marines. But is the fact that they want to sell me that 40 000 years from now after a literal galactic apocalypse the imperial system of measurement and the southern US accent are still alive and well

In-universe, I believe they don't speak English at all; Low Gothic is supposed to be a hybridised descendent of English, Spanish and Chinese, IIRC. Likewise, High Gothic isn't actually Latin, it's either an older version of Gothic that's less diverged from what was presumably the standard interstellar language of the Dark Age of Technology, or a separate language altogether.

The creature sounds like someone found a Halo device. Those things are terrifying and yeah immortality, inhuman strength and speed, corpse like appearance, insatiable hunger for human flesh are all recorded affects. The original person could have been a good person and just unknowingly gotten it.

I think the only difference between an action scene and a horror scene is a gun. If you’re a teenager being attacked by Jason then yeah, that’s horror. But if you have a gun, you can fight back and that’s action. Warhammer is so perfect for this concept because for every time there’s a guardsman facing down the literal manifestation of murder, there’s a hundred civilians holding their breath in some dark crevice hoping the dark eldar raiders will pass them by.

For anybody wondering what this creature is, its most likely a lacrymole,they have their own Wikipedia page and officially star in a black library novel , so you can Google them. But basically these alien creatures used to be big shots before the emporor launched his crusade and nearly extincted them due to these guys being unbelievably dangerous. They survived to the modern day by doing this kind of stuff in video. Laying low in backwater villages and mind control.

Reminds me of a demon I fought against in a Rifts Earth game, it was a reoccurring boss-type entity from another planet that was pretending to be a human pagan deity and drinking their blood (and other worse fluids, fvcking demons). Great game.

I assume the planetary Governor is a krave space vampire the same ones the dark Angels went to war with and annihilated during the Great crusade. The reason why I say this is because krave are known for taking positions of power in human planets and ruling them from the shadows while also feeding on the population.

Yeah - Not only gene-modified ones of Krieg but also of Tallaran and of Chogoris. I can imagine that there are many places with horses all over the galaxy. They are useful animals in the face of AI rebellion. And even after death... A horse servitor is as useful as a living one.

So the two go exploring a dark crypt, which is the subject of various horror stories, without any preparation or suitable equipment? - What a great idea! What could possibly go wrong? Apart from that, I find it hard to believe that in the sci-fi world of 40K there are no lamps, which everyone always has with them anyway. Just like we always have our smartphone lights with us. Not to mention (mini) drones that you could send ahead to explore the crypt instead of descending yourself.

It's a feudal world. Basically its a technologically backwarded planet that never received any tech resources from the imperium because the it's classified as a farming planet that does need one. All they have is a pre industrial age style weapons and gunpowder weapons at best.

The scariest part is the idea that these kind of incidents happening all over the outer rim of the empire will do more damage in the long run than the actual war
