I live in Canada, it is essential to eat proper foods in the winter months as less vitamin D does lead to depression and other negative effects of lack of sunlight. The amount of Vitamin D obtained from food will never equate to that of sunshine but its worth to consume vitamin D rich foods in the winter. Traditional Icelandic foods do have significant amounts of Vitamin D. Unfortunately as modern culture has led to processed foods being dominate and our heritage nutrient dense foods being phased out. The system literally is engineered for profits to create nutrient deficient foods which cost less and are sold for higher margins. Majority of food corporations are American who has been the biggest movement of fast food in the last decade. If anyone reads this comment. Study your heritage and understand what your ancestors were eating. This would be the most optiminal manner for you to eat too. Only the educated and the energetic prosper. Study, plan and work hard.

I was there a few years ago and I loved it. If you don't like crowded places and like seeing as few people as possible that's the place to be. With all the natural beauty as well, it's a true magical place indeed. Don't go to the capital though, the prices are ridiculous and not many things to see & do, lots of tourist traps. I would like to go to the north, more natural beauty, cheaper and even less people.

I have to say, having been previously married twice to Icelandic women and lived in Reykjavik for a short time, I can say that Icelanders are pretty plain and unremarkable people but the topography of their country is truly spectacular. You wouldn’t want to live there though…

What good is a social welfare system when you’re depressed half the time (perhaps due to the weather), or drunk half the time (perhaps due to the weather), or have a high suicide rate being cooped up indoors (perhaps due to the weather) and bored to tears in a culture which is alien and not easy to crack unless you speak the language well and understand the cultural nuances. The first thing people think about is the weather (actually it’s the climate), but having been there and done that I’d say the weather is the least of it. Been there and done that. My recommendation is to live there for a spell, preferably January through March, before making any definitive decisions. And whatever you do, have your fun but don’t marry an Icelander, you may regret it.

Yes indeed you are right. Although as a Swede I can say that dark blond hair is extremely common in the nordics so most of these rather have dark blond hair than brown hair, but it will look rather dark in winter and it's the new growth also. Worth to notice is also that usually children are much blonder than adults. I had light blond hair as a kid but now it's fairly dark.

more than anything, this makes me reminisce about my trip to iceland in 2008. spent a week exploring reykjavik, as well as some of the south coast. was a great trip, one of the best, and i'd very much like to return. this was right before their economy crash, so i remember everything was crazy expensive. i'm sure it's bounced back now.

From the sea, not many (although there is certainly some). But, Russia actually has MANY migrants. Albeit mostly from the ex-USSR. They speak Russian, but are quite different people. Also, Russia has many streets that are not 'clean and tidy'. It's not San Francisco, of course, but it does have it's messy streets. And, about being clean - pollution is a major problem in some Russian cities (especially ones with heavy industry). As for Belarus - almost no migrants, and yes, streets are pretty clean and tidy.

it's not hard for a country to keep their streets clean these days. its mostly some parts of sub-saharan Africa and Southeast Asia that have those problems. I'm confused why you think Europe is dirty. They have modern street cleaners and shit. Maybe you're seeing trash collection logistics issues from their high density. Of course a place with only 140k people isnt going to have a lot of trash piled up waiting for collection compared to Paris or New York City.

I've been trying to figure out for years, why everything seems to work better in Iceland than the US. they don't seem to constantly have economic highs and lows like we have. also, they don't have all the social turmoil that we seem to have. I get sick of all the constant drama in the US. I think this is what cause's so much stress and unhappiness in our society. our cities are collapsing, look at what has happened to cities like Seattle, Portland, las Angeles, Denver you don't see that sort of thing there.

It's not a fair comparison, at all. Iceland has the population of a small US city. 372 thousand Vs 330 Million. Our smallest state, Delaware, has a higher GDP and higher population..

Everyone has different taste, which by the way is good. Lived my whole life in Sweden and last 10 years in Denmark. They are no Queens and far from best looking girls.... That's just an urban myth, hanging on hard from the 50's to 70's when they actually looked good, feminine and laid back. But, once again. Taste are different. Someone gets a cold pizza leftover and thinks that better then a Michelin star restaurant. So I normally don't argue with people about Scandinavian look and 🐘🦏🦛 other things, when I meet them somewhere or on travel to countries that has overflow of beaty girls, where locals who hasn't been to Scandinavia try to convince me how beautiful women are in the north...unless they force me to... And no, I'm not a grumpy man😁👍

I lived in Scotland for a number of years. I always planned to go to Iceland for a weekend, but never got around to it. To be honest, I do not think I would enjoy living in Iceland - the long, dark winters would do my head in. Scotland was bad enough, but at least Scotland is just wet in the winter and not really cold.
