I actually really love that it’s gonna walk underwater instead of being able to swim. Super cool idea, and one that makes sense given how dense Anky is.
The anky in JW was more like a Saichania than an Ankylosaurus, the JP/JW producers like to rename dinosaurs for no reason, like they seriously called Blue a Velociraptor when it's really a Utahraptor
@@camelenon9533 JW's Anky isn't close to any ankylosaur. It's just an Ankylosaurus reconstruction ripped straight out of the 1950s, except worse. Btw, Blue is an oversized Deinonychus.
JW isn’t supposed to be accurate, it’s in the lore that the dinosaurs didn’t have all of the DNA needed to recreate them, so scientists used reptile, amphibian, and bird DNA to replace the DNA, and they were also intentionally made to look cooler, it’s not supposed to be accurate because it’s for entertainment, I do agree though
@@camelenon9533 The raptors in JP and JW are actually supposed to be Deinonychus but they made them larger. The raptors in those films aren't large enough nor bulky enough to be anywhere near that of a Utah.
Given anky's slowness. I imagine it protecting herdmates will just be the herd mate playing ring around rosey with the predator as the carnivore tries to avoid getting a face full of tail club.

Potentially a really good idea with the flipping mechanic. A large predator/apex that can ambush an anky with a bit of skill has a solid chance of scoring a kill, but if the anky sees it coming and doesn't make a mistake, the kill is much, much harder. Ankys will probably opt to stay out of jungles and heavy vegetation and stick to open areas. Anky is a fun interaction with new players playing carnivores as well. I remember playing as an allo trying to figure out a way to kill the anky over the course of several minutes, trying to wear it down and start making mistakes, only to have my hunt interrupted by another carnivore.
I'm betting the hunkered down stance will heavily decrees damage and maybe make it immune to being bled, (given the carnivores they show failing to hurt it are both known bleeders) I'm betting spino being able to flip it and Rex having a bone crushing bite will both be able to more reliably hurt the Anky.
I’m betting that Rex, Giga, and Acro will have an animation that has them using their huge heads while using all of their body strength to tip the Anky on its side, with Spino having the most unique animation which involves it using its large arms and claws to tip over an Anky, and with any carnivore smaller than those 4 being unable to tip over an Anky entirely, although I could imagine mid tier carnivores being able to tip over a sub adult Anky, and with small tiers being able to tip over juveniles.

I can't help but think they got inspired by anodontosaurus in PoT, which is really good. Anos have really unique and interesting combat mechanics, with the only downside being it's really slow.
It looks like the only threats in evrima anky will have to be careful of are Spinos that can flip them and very small carnivores like troodon. Since small carnivores can go underneath anky they can bite its soft spot so the anky will have to enter its defensive stance to not be bitten below its underbelly. Any bodies of water like rivers where the anky has to cross it will be dangerous as depending on how wide the river the Anky has to walk to go to the other side it may drown itself at the process due to how slow it moves underwater because of its weight. Not only that it can't enter in its defensive stance underwater so deinos or small/big semi aquatic dinos can hunt it when it crosses the river. Anky will have to be very careful when choosing it's rivers to cross and must find a good spot that's small enough to cross to not get drowned at the process and not be pick off by semi aquatics. It has to be careful to Spinos that can flip them over and small carnivores that can go underneath it and bite its soft spot but the latter can be counter by the Anky by just using its defensive stance. Other ankys could probably pose a threat to an Anky as well.
I think exes are also among the few that can counter any since they have the bone crushing bite with would make t rex and anky arch enemies for a single hit can decide the outcome on both sides
I love Ankylosaurus, fsr in some media ive Seen, they usually just make Anky like a punching bag for the “bigger stronger carnivores”, which makes me super sad. I’ve always loved how anky eas depicted in stuff like walking with dinosaurs becuase of how cool it was, and how it highlighted the anky as a dangerous prey animal, showing that prey CAN be just as (if not more dangerous) then their predators, and kind of reminding me of how moose and rhino’s are in their natural Neid he’s in the wild. I cant wait for the anky to be released, hopefully it’ll be good once it is ^^
Sorry this comment is so long, had to vent out my frustrations a bit. So it has to lay down....to defend itself, and get up to defend itself. This dude is a *VERY HEAVY* animal, just having a Spinosaurus being able to flip it over with it's arms and claws is to much of a nerf for Anky in my opinion. Anky should almost NEVER need to lay down at all in order to defend itself. There is a reason why these dinosaurs were short, low to the ground, and covered in armor, it's because compared to the T. rex and other tall theropods, they absolutely TOWER over the Anky....which gives Anky an advantage 👀??? Yes, they would have to bend all the way down just to try and kill it. With Anky moving around a lot and trying to protect it's head while keeping it's body and tail facing and aiming at the attacker(s), that should be enough to tell off any carnivore that doesn't know how to face Anky and should have them think twice and think long and hard about the decision they made. And also that design.....just why? Didn't need all the extra stuff just to make it have a fighting chance at survival. The Anky was built the way it was built for a reason... *OBVIOUSLY.* I guess I'm just wondering why dinosaurs like Stegosaurus or Triceratops don't get any extra armory or other abilities to help them survive. They just stay looking relatively normal in terms of appearance. But, other dinos like Anky and Magy (especially Magy) get all of these extra abilities just for them to have a fighting chance. They shouldn't have lumped Anky in that camp because it's totally fine the way it is.......Magy on the other hand. And also, if you're a relatively small dinosaur that can't seemingly run that fast, guess you're gonna have a life in the lakes and rivers, gets that's just what they'll do with almost all the dinosaurs that are like that huh 😐. I don't know man.

Ok, think of Anky like a very wide crocodile. The crocodile is low to the ground, a body made up of very tough skin, and has a deadly weapon. For one, you're not going to be flipping a 1,000 - 2,200 pound *wide* crocodile, *LET ALONE A 11,000 - 18,000 pound Anky* just with your arms or even your big dinosaur head. That's about *4 TONS* my dude. And even if you could do it some how, you think that both the crocodile and Anky would just except it and let themselves get flipped over? Nah, just no. "But that's why the Anky should be able to lay down, so that it can defend itself better." Again...it's already low to the ground (which is ideal for the Anky) and it's super heavy and very wide. It already has many counters to use for it's defense. Him being that short practically means it's already laying down from the T. rex perspective. ALSO, being that low to the ground means that your tail club is in perfect range to be able to aim at the ankles, legs, or even the head of your attacker if they try to bend down for a bite.

Next, bringing up the point of a Spino flipping an Anky and saying that it should be nay impossible to do is one of Anky's main traits (probably a better word for ability, my bad on that part). And also, I didn't bring up the fact that the Anky is short, wide, and heavy just to offhandedly call you an idiot, I said it to just further my point that the concept art showing the Anky laying down *at all* just seems counterintuitive overall.

Anyways, I understand not wanting anky to have to sit down to protect itself, because that is realistic. But from a game balance perspective if the anky can just beat the shit out of apexs with fractures + high dmg (which it seems to have) and also just not take dmg while fighting, it’d be literally unstoppable and unfun to play against. So making it sit down to defend is a good idea in my (and a lot of others) opinion. Same logic can go for flipping. Realistically, yes, a spino or most apexs honestly could n o t flip an anky with it’s arms or face, at least not without loads of time they’ll never get. But if the anky just tanks hits and it takes forever to kill sitting or standing, it’s kinda necessary. On the bright side, sitting will probably prevent flipping. And to address your last point, that’s on me for wording my response like an asshole and assuming you were calling me an idiot, so I’m sorry for that.
I rarely dislike them actually, my criticism doesn't mean I dislike the concept. I think the only one i really dislike is the Gali since it's stealing oviraptors niche a bit too much but that's about it
@@XZaguer Do you think Rex could be able to pose a threat to an Anky since it has bites that can cause bone break and it's devastating? Like let's say a Rex bit an Anky to the head it will definitely cause damage but to the armor plated body probably not. Also I wonder if massive creatures such as the shant or massive sauropods can damage the Anky by stomping on it's body and crushing its soft underbelly. You think that's possible and could work making shant and heavy big sauropods who can use leg stomp with its massive weight can pose a threat to an Anky? Just a speculation I have. What are your thoughts into it?
@@bold9291 well that's a tough one. For balance sake, both Dinos should have ways to defeat and defend themselves from one another. It would be easier if we had a rex concept art but since we don't I can only go with what we can expect from it, which is a very high damage dealer dinosaur with high fracture damage. I would say that for the rex, their method of killing ankys would be by focusing on its head rather than flipping it, and since ankys head is small, they can work around that aspect and create a sort of game where the anky tries to avoid rexes head while trying to hit it with its tail while the rex tries to hit ankys head while avoiding its tail. In theory that *can* work, but that's just an idea of mine to fix potential unbalances, I'm sure Afterthought already planned ahead regarding that
To be honest I find the rhino design very imaginative and I like the look of it , it’s just it shouldn’t be used for Ankylosaurus since we know roughly what it would’ve look like it should be used for a different Ankylosauridae that we know less about
The Isle is a game where Utahraptor is a bootleg Jurassic Park raptor, Dilophosaurus as venomous, Troodon exists (and is venomous), and Spinosaurus is a monstrous deviantart OC made by some teen that watched Monsters Resurrected. I don't think scientific accuracy is a concern (you could say, it's an afterthought). Besides, at least it's better than the JW Ankylosaurus.
@@Bagelgeuse Right, but you can be imagietive and still make a design that fits anky. Anky's playstyle is more like a turtle than a rhino, so make it look kinda like a turtle. The thing is, a rhino design may be creative, but it doesn't fit the anky one bit. If we look at its playstyle and since we know what anky looks like irl, portraying is as a rhino just doesn't fit at all. It's more like something trying to pretend to be an anky.
I think anky could also have sort of a "shove" where it would have an animation similar to stego's current swing, where it wouldn't do damage, but would knock a predator back and possibly stun them.
Well and if anyone complains about it being hard to kill, it is supposed to be. In the end anky only needs to be able to defend itself and its offensive options should be greatly limited so it isn't a big deal if killing it is super difficult so long as everything can easily get away from it.
Definitely still not a fan of the rhino hide ankylosaurus but it's sure grown on me,and I just find the overall concept *fantastic* . Only problem,is it didn't completely kill the Spino 😂 Yet again,this video was really good,and can't wait to see one for the Giga concept.
I actually quite like the ably design, mostly because it kinda adds a bit more lore to the game. The ably looking sort of like an armadillo or rhino could imply that humans have genetically altered the ankys DNA, infusing it with armadillo or rhino DNA. Because in the isle lore all the Dino’s in the game are manmade, and the strains are also manmade, at least that’s what I’ve read. Correct me if I’m wrong.
Is anyone else kinda over these concept art reveals? They communicate practically nothing about gameplay. I'd rather they focus on the relevant creatures they are adding soon instead of giving concept art to some random creature that wont be in the game for years.
for years like If we're optimistic, we can think that the full version of the game will come in 2026, and if we're going to see the creatures they randomly show in at least 2028, there's really no point in them showing it now...
