This week on The Issue Is, an exclusive sit-down with the Red Rocker himself, Rock and Roll Hall of Fame Inductee and former Van Halen front-man, Sammy Hagar.
Saw Sammy 6 times in concert with Van Halen. Always energetic, had the crowd in his hand, top notch performer and was never on an ego trip. The guy is a legend
@ Metal mcFly (lame moniker) The fact that you actually think it's cool that you saw Raggedy Andy hairdo Sammy double-knit haggar pants says it all, 🤣🤣
I was at the grand opening of Cabo Wabo in the late 80's. Such an awesome time, Sammy came driving up to the main strip in Cabo in an old beater with " I can't drive 55 " spray painted on the side of the car. Eddie, Alex and Michael came after him cruising up on ATV's and they hung out with everyone, taking pictures and enjoying cocktails with us all. It was a magical moment that I will never forget
To me this is one of his best interviews. The otherworldly experiences really do place these vessels of free will into perspective, very fragile and wanting to error on the side of how can we make this a better place.
Sammy is a living legend. What a pure good always happy man. Always smiling. Always having a good time. Exactly how life should be lived. Seen him last year in detroit. He rocked like a 20 year old. At 75 years young , that says a lot.
@@kerzytibok3211 WTF does that have to do with anything or Sammy being a cool dude? Like most VH fans I myself dig the VH tunes in the DLR day's more too. Those are my jam's & part of the soundtrack in my childhood. But that's as far as the love goes with DLR with me. And I'd bet most fans would agree with me on that also if they ever met Dave personally? Which is more so what we're talking about here? Let me tell you sumpin' about sumpin'. David Lee Roth is & has always been a egotistical pompous prick who never really gave VH fans the time of day. Unless it was a hot chick willing & able to get down backstage, on the bus or at the hotel after the show to fill David's needs. That's also a basic fact too, my friend. Real Talk! I'd rather hang out & party with a cool cat like Sammy any day of the week. Over being around some arrogant dipsh!t like David Lee Roth talk about nothing but himself all day for sure, wouldn't you? Just saying...
@@kerzytibok3211 My best friend was a huge VH fan in the 1980s and he liked Sammy so much more than Dave it wasn't even close. Sammy is much cooler and kinder than douche canoe Dave and THAT is just a basic fact.
What a man. So refreshing to see a guy with Sammy's Life, and his trail of success.... being the guy he always was. I love this man. Always have. Saw him probably 12 times with Van Halen. Saw him solo. Saw him on the Sam and Dave Tour. Saw him with Chickenfoot. Never a dull moment, and never anything less than a phenomenal show, and a phenomenal performance by Sam. The best. The Red Rocker is the best. Period.
So I'm 65 and saw Sammy live back in the Montrose days. Always liked this dude. What struck me funny on this video was at 4:28 he's playing his Paul at a place called The Strat.....lol 😂
Although I have never met Mr Hagar I have known his manager for many years and Sammy is known to be a great person, how cool that he donates so much. Life is too short why not spread the wealth, good on him and his wife.
Sammy... My learned something new today, I was unaware of your all your charitable giving and your very humble beginnings, you've sure made your mom proud.... Such an inspiration to others...There's many a child out there that needs to hear your story, meet you in person, you could do something that not many may have the opportunity to make a impact.... Your right, at your age there is so much more life that you'll be fortunate to live & still give...your awesome....keep your spirit....your truly a blessing...
He was absolute magic with Eddie, Alex and Michael. I just got out of bootcamp in San Diego, March of 1986. I had heard Valen Halen before with Diamond Dave. Very good stuff, top stuff. Haggar put a great spin on it. I thought Sammy had the only voice that could work on 5150, then onward.
Sammy showed up at one of my Dad's parties in Malibu back in '89. Long story short: Sammy is a f**king GREAT guy! Totally cool and very down to earth. I spent 2 hours drinking beer and cooking hot dogs with Sammy and Cheech Marin. Just 3 musicians chilling out, and it blew my 19-year old mind!
I have a friend who knows Sammy, personally. My friend plays bass and they have jammed together many times, in Cabo. I don't think anyone will see this, but all reports are, Sam loves people, and is brilliant, the end...
How Sammy views things and goes after what he wants reminds me of what Wayne Dyer wrote in his books, a quote... "When one advances confidently in the direction of their dreams, to live the life that he has imagined, he will be met with a success unknown in common hours" And I've done the same, I am living my dreams because I advanced confidently in the direction of them, and wouldn't stop until I achieved them.
Sammy, I saw your band rock out in Denver this past year and you guys were terrific. HOWEVER, I was bummed out that you didn't play "Funky Feng Shui"! That song reminds me of the great CLASSIC rocker songs! I sure hope it's on this new album.
I really enjoyed this interview! Sammy you really are such a talented person & singer! So glad when I started watching you & your bands videos cause by watching them I realize y’all are such a awesome band with so many great songs! Your new song Father time is so good & the video of your wife & you family & friends is so much fun to watch with so many great pictures to see! Always fan of y’all! ♥️🌟👋
If Hagar isn't having any luck with VH, he should get the old guys from HSAS and have a reunion! they didn't put out much material, but what they did was FIRE man! and Montrose was cool, but the later stuff that Ronny did with Gamma2 was FIRE man, especially the second album! But why does there have to be some random guy in the background for the whole interview? I mean the hotel didn't have enough people looking after security??
Sammy has a good and loving heart! I hope he continues to do well and is connected or connects with God before he kicks the bucket.... as God is love and has more for us after this life is done.
Sammy I think you're the greatest man ever since you come out that's a red rocker I've been big fan of yours ever since man ever since I first heard you do the greatest man You're live on stage or you're full of life and you're you're good spirit and you love your fans man and we love you
I love Sammy, this guy knows how to make music. I’ve worked in one of his restaurants @ Reid airport. I’m still there. @ lv. Reid airport. Rock on Red rocker. SAMMY!! 🎸. Brian, guitar- Las Vegas/ Loves- SAMMY🎸🎸🎸🎸🎶🎶🎶🎶
Sammy is an awesome human being so kind so generous. Sammy thanks for responding to my letter and thank you for the autographed pictures and guitar picks please tell your sister I said hello
@Sir C, Huh...? That doesn't make any sense at all my friend, sorry but I call BS! Even if you did 20 year in the joint back in the day you still would of heard & know at least 1 tune Sammy Hagar sings on, especially if you're 59 years old. C'mon Man let's keep it a buck here? "Bad Motor Scooter, Rock Candy, I Can't Drive 55, Heavy Metal, 3 Lock Box, Your Love Is Driving Me Crazy, Why Can't This Be Love, Best Of Both Worlds, When It's Love, Right Now, Top Of The World, etc... There's NO way in Hell, I ain't buying it but you do you. ++Peace & Rock n' Roll 4 Your Soul++
Great interview . Van Halen with Sammy represented some of the best times in rock music . They were headbangers no doubt but it was all about fun and good times...and love . It was like the very top of the mountain of popular rock music. Sure there was tensions and debauchery backstage ...but I really appreciate that they kept that out of the press. Them and Scorpions knew " hey our audience has alot of teen kids let's keep the drug stuff on the low " ....I respect that. But in life all things come to an end . It was hard to take when alternative , extreme metal and gangster Rap came out . For a 21 year old guy in his first band it was like someone pulled the rug out from under you. The whole culture changed . Every one can blame this or that...some of us gen x kids are to blame too. Bands like Van Halen set the bar high . We were spoiled from having them and too lazy to keep up. Musically ( not lyrically ) Pantera was the only new band that carried the torch but the blatant violent and cynical lyrics were not good. With that 86 through 91/92 was such a magical time . Sammy's voice is like a familiar friend ...it spoke of good times, Summer time and parties . I imagine if we don't kill ourselves off their will be another good time revolution at some point . We are in such a weird headspace nothing feels right . Anyway, Sam's a cool dude . Great voice . I'd like to see him interview Klaus Meine on rock and roll road trip ...both nice guys with great voices ...part of the same rock and roll generation. Peace.
I tried to hold out for the good times to return but now I'm convinced they never will --- the world is too cynical and hateful now --- I'm just glad I was a teen in the 80's and in my 20's during the 90's and saw what the real good times looked and felt like, and it was REALLY GOOD --- sure wish I could go back tho
Well said Kerzy. I feel the same way. I got to be a teen in the 70s and 80s. At 59 now it seems like all a blur. I would give anything to go back to 1978 and start from there Good music cheap gas and good friends.
Sammy is my kinda dude. Lotsa stuff is thrown at him, he ducks, catches it, and throws it back, or just gets back up and keeps going. Go, Sammy Hagar!!!
