If you watch the IT Crowd special commentary/looking back episode the actor playing the tech assistance operator was told to do his worst over the top French accent by the series creator.
He’s supposed to be talking to someone else on the phone I think he just happens to be smiling and talking on the phone. It looks more conversational than trying not to laugh
He's giving very clear instructions on how to enter the bios. Obviously Jen doesn't understand because she is so terrible with computers. This show is hilarious.
Americans eat up that french accent when speaking English. Yet everyone makes a face like they smelled a turd when a French Canadian talks. Sounds bizarre
Have you seen the episode where the boys set up a language translation app for Jen to speak to Italian business men for the company? It’s very, very funny. KP is a great actress.
I had a professor like him at my university! I failed his classes and so did many. Man, that accent was a mix of Swiss German and French. A classic disaster!

I mean it is obviously based around Frenglish sounds, but this swaying cadenza, this tendancy to "complete" words offbeat definitely has a rather Swedish ring to it. Not sure if I'm being clear, here. The sounds of the sentence per se could pass off as a strong French accent in english, but the rythm and pacing to it, this musical "stop and go" prosody starkly contrasts with typical French intonation, which is quite flat on the contrary.
Yes I know what u mean! There’s some similarity to Swedish accent & a bit of similarity to French words, of course most Swedish and French speakers sound far better
French and Swedish are basically the same language anyway. All languages are if we’re being honest, except English which I speak. They’re all just the same stupid foreign language that nobody really understands.
+julien its funny how I too don't recognize a typical French accent at first either. I thought it sounded kind of swedish. I guess that is what it sounds like when English is mispronounced by a French, then misheard and mispronounced by an English, then misheard by our own French ears.
Except that literally no one has ever been put through to a French call centre but I suppose the reality of being put through to an Indian call centre wouldn't be allowed to be mocked.
I've just had a call similar to this but with an Indian guy. 45 minutes. HSBC bank. Very, VERY frustrating. I came to watch this after because I was thinking of this scene for most of my call.

There have been many problems with this particular robot. *gibberish* So perhaps you could try turning the robot off and then get the man to run away quickly.

As someone who has to deal with stuff like this on a regular basis I'm honestly FED UP with people who take a job that requires good English when in reality they barely speak the damned language at all.
If the show was honest they'd of portrayed this scene with an Indian but, in this current climate, I don't think they'd get away with mocking an Indian accent like they can with a White one.
