@@TheSolidlad They had a meeting with representatives from a Japanese company, when he says Japan has expressed concern, he's referring to the company. Douglas interperates it as the country of Japan has been expressing concerns.
Matt Berry’s delivery, in general, is uniquely hilarious. But the line, “Pucker up, boys. It’s hammer tiiiime!” is just comically genius. The inflection and, arguably the most difficult thing to do as an actor, the slightly slurred speech, both perfect.
Matt Cockcroft no Mark Croftcock, that would be “ god damn these electric sex-pants! “ *** slam down magazine or tablet computer on table for added incredulosity! *** Thank me later when use this on your townspeople.
"GOD..daamn these electric sex-paants." In my opinion, the best delivered line in comedy history. Loved Matt ever since I first saw him in Darkplace. Bloody hell, just looked it up: Darkplace was 10 years ago. Saying that, I almost died when I realised Jurassic Park was 20 years ago (21 years now). I feel old.
@@BunniMonster I watched that new Jay and Silent Bob Reboot movie the other night. Now I officially feel old. Everyone looks so god damn old now. Even Matt Damon and Ben Affleck.
"VICTORIA! But I thought you were DEAAaddd!" I might just talk like Douglas Reynholm for the rest of my life. He may be an awful person, but his voice alone is my spirit animal.
having seen this series multiple times over the years, I find myself quoting Douglas on a regular basis, even though most people don't get the references. one of the best TV characters ever written and Matt Berry plays it brilliantly
I just love how he says "caricatures". And that child like drawing never fails to make me laugh. You can definitely see the Father Ted DNA that Graham Lineham brings to this show.
@nickthelick Blame Linehan. It probably would've just got a standard "dated presentation" disclaimer thing at the start if he hadn't started a mental Crusade online and made it an issue. There's a LOT of worse representations that still get regular repeats with no issues at all, but Linehan has made the whole thing into nuclear waste that nobody wants to go anywhere near, and I don't blame them.
He knew he would do it himself and his option were window or gun. He wrote the note much earlier ad would have destroyed it if he used the gun. It's perfectly logical
Finchy gets a couple awkward laughs but for me he pales next to Brent. Brent is so pathetic that it’s easier to forgive him even if he is near irredeemable. They explore layers to his characters and yes he’s unlikeable but his intentions aren’t as painful to watch as Finchy.
I didn’t think they’d ever be able to replace Denholm after he jumped out of the office window over irregularities with the pension fund. It’s pretty rare that a replacement matches up to the original, and when Douglas made his dramatic entrance at the funeral I thought “oh shit, they’re trying too hard.” But it turns out they knew exactly what they were doing, with this macho, self-centred, shallow, feckless, tyrannical, unstable, ignorant, loud mouthed, ultra-sexist, borderline insane character. Matt blends these qualities and portrays them to perfection, It works brilliantly.
Pure ridiculousness seems to be very difficult to pull off effectively without going too far. The best comedies, the ones I love and rewatch are those that crank the absurdity right up to the edge and balance there perfectly. IT crowd, Mr Bean, Monty Python, Zoolander, Southpark, Malcom in the Middle. Its great when you have a relatively mundane world or otherwise normal set of characters to truly contrast the mad ones against.
@@jeshkam yeah, South West, although MASSIVELY coincidentally, he was on the same train as me 2 days ago in Central London. That's so fuckin weird that you comment just after the second time I see him 5 months after I wrote the original comment 🤯🤯🤯
"There's somebody at the door! There's somebody at the door! There's somebody at the door!" Has entered my daily vocabulary more than any other TV quote
Im in Houston, Texas... I've been trying to put people on to this show... for yeeeeeeeaaaaaaars. When he came in on season 2... whew... a great shw got even better. Best ep is at the movie theatre
Some credit must go to Graham Lineham, who also created Father Ted, another iconic sitcom. the IT Crowd was great anyway but lets be honest, it got better when Matt Berry joined, he absolutely nails it in every scene, and that voice, oh my that booming voice, love it, what a genius! *Now wait a minute sugar tits...*
Couldn't agree less - thought the first season was excellent and Chris Morris played one of the funniest characters ever so well. Renholm was a relatively funny character too but Matt Berry was Terrible most of the time - way over-acted each scene and personally think he took away from the show in the end. Just my opinion though!
I like how his suit makes his arm look like it's bending backwards when he points at the dead flies. Further proof he is in fact, an otherworldly being who knows what he's talking about.
