In this video you will see 6 and 8-cylinder sports Italian motorcycles, which are extremely interesting, although some lesser-known, because some remained only as prototypes and did not get into production, or never competed on the racetracks.

Imagine a V6 or V8 twostroke with modern resonance exhaust, outlet and inlet control/regulation (like Honda NSR, Yam TZR, Rotax etc.).

The sound from that Guzzi V-8 quad cam . The V-8 Cosworths made the same kind of sound . And that Morbidelli ! OH MY GOD ! A real shame we never saw these on the roads . Everything shown here was a Work of Art as well as Engineering . Italians ! A pity they never worked out RELIABILITY .

The Galbusera, and MV Augusta 350/6 are the only ones I've never heard of until today. What a wicked bike that Galbusera would be, a 500cc two stroke, supercharged V8!! I am a big fan of the Morbidelli V8 as well.

How about the Ducati Apollo? A Vmax 20yrs before the actual Vmax came out! When I read about the Guzzi V8 in one of Mick Walker's books, I had to make a piston and cylinder out of cardboard tubes, to get my head around the scale of it. Carcano was an absolute genius. Or a madman. It's a fine line...!

@@eduardosampoia5480 As much as I like a Vmax, I wouldn't call the Apollo an abomination! It was at worst ill-conceived, but more likely just too big a leap: they knew road tyres and brakes weren't up to its' potential performance and mass at the time; surprise, surprise, that turned out to be the case. That they then spent so long focusing on the bikes they did build since, is perhaps a reason to be grateful for the Apollo!

Ducati Apollo! It was conceived to compete with H-D in the heavy motorcycle market. A big Ducati V4 bike would've been epic. The prototype kept destroying tyres and so they kept de-tuning the engine...

Madre de Dio! The thoroughly astonishing Moto Guzzi 500cc V8 is One Of The Gteatest Manmade Objects Ever Built. And it sounds like...how does one even begin... If Godzilla and Rodan had a baby, it would sound kind of like the Guzzi V8. Hm... Still doesn't do it justice. I wish they'd been bonkers enough to put it into production. The valves must be the size of golf tees. Awesome.

Another well-captioned collection of truly unusual and interesting machines from Jawa Tino. However, it wasn't the V8 Guzzi's power that killed it off, but that 'dustbin' fairing. It was estimated to add over 20 mph to top speed, but even a breath of cross-wind would push the bike alarmingly off-course.

I remember the unique sound of the V8 in the Isle of Man TT in the mid 50s. With the full fairing before they were banned. Nothing like it.

The 750 Sei was a derivative of the Honda 4 cylinder engines of the period and were very recognisable as such 🙂

It is a gorgeous engine but if any of my "Kyalami Kawasaki" had that much throttle lag, I'd be shot! You'd think that tiny engines would be more responsive. Wouldn't you? ?

Guzzi V8...... Ce ne sono solo 2 originali. Una nel museo a Mandello una la usano per le esibizioni. Almeno fino poco tempo fa era così. Una terza è in Romagna dalle parti di Rimini ma è una replica

I don’t want to undermine The Japanese motorcycles,but when they wanted to produce bikes long ago, they copied the Italian bikes and try to better.

@M Bacon Well, I don't know why everybody always says, that racing carburettors have no idling system, because all racing carburettors, be it Amal (TT, RN , GP), Dell'Orto (SS), Kei-hin (CR) or Mikuni have adjustable idling systems with a pilot jet. It's just that highly tuned racing motorcycles will not run well below a certain engine speed, but a BSA Gold Star, e.g., would idle without problem with an Amal GP carb. My own Ducati racer idled with a Dell'Orto SS carb.
