I definitely love The Jam. I wish they were more well known in the US but for those of us who know this band, we REALLY love them!

The Jam's most under-rated single.

One of their most underrated singles. Tell em we don't fight for fools cos love is in our hearts. One of the best lyrics ever. I love that the line along with the music sounds like a war cry / march, but it's used like an anti-war slogan. So clever.

The forgotten classic Jam single. Never, ever played on the radio, always Malice,/Rifles/Underground....all great songs but this is definitely up there with them

Bruce’s most melodic bass line ever. Long, sustained notes pushing the melody on from start to finish.

And everyone always misses that Rick had Weller's whistle in his mouth for the one shot. Take me back to this time in my life. It was magical...

Love everything about this song, but Foxton's bass is amazing. Really underrated musician IMO.

I am pained that I had to sit through a 15 second ad for Nickelbacks new album to get to listen to this lovely song. Nickelback shouldnt come within a country mile of anything written by The Jam or Paul Weller.

Unfortunately The Jam never made it in the U.S.A. It's a plain shame. I only heard about them in 80. The Gift was just that.....a fucking beautiful gift of music to the people. Damn, I so wish I could have seen them.

i'm an American, and I had this on an British import single, I lovingly played it for my neighbors, for weeks...I got several "thank you" notes. considering I grew up in the suburbs of Washington state, I consider this a small victory!

First single bought, never saw them live unfortunately....met Bruce many times with FTJ and had a great meeting with Rick in London for The Jam exhibition, seen Paul in concert in The Style Council and solo but never met him...... Dreams of Children, give us another chance please >}

Man! Sounds as good as the day it was released! Total power trio. Came out of the ground fully formed like The Doors/Who etc. Loving the 'rifle crack' snare!

I've always loved this song (shame it's so short...) and the video, it's great to see all the old Mk2 Cortinas, Triumph Dolomites, Vauxhall Viva's etc the lads run past, very evocative of a long gone time!

too true especially their harder hitting songs and some of their truly brilliant b-sides it saddens me that less people know of what truly was the finest music from the 70's and early 80's

I never noticed before but in the lyrics Weller is clearly telling the band he want to move on...

I remember when the album came out in 1981, it was like nothing I had heard before. I kept playing 'Absolute Begninners' every morning before I dragged my self to my first classes as a freshman in college and my nowhere job. It was only one of a few songs at the time that kept me out of total despair and hoping for a better future.

Bruce was the best runner in the Jam, hands down, Fox on the run, go my son, running round the ‘ouses like a racehorse on speed even!
