Also used to have this on tape...always remember that line "It's a bit strange then getting an 'Oi man' in [Peter Wilson who did some Sham stuff] for what has turned out to be quite a sensitive album" Cracks me up!!
this is unreal. missed it at the time coz I was out at Tiffany's in Newcastle. I was asking friends at the time "wot was it like?" and they were saying just like the end of album version of start. Its still a masterpiece. Thankyou for sharing
Remember recording this on tape . Also being really disappointed because the album was crap and they lost their edge. I sort of knew it was the end of the road for them then. The best bit was the free bag and 12 “ Malice live single.
They had a break for holiday towards the end of June 82, when they came back he told them. It would have been mid July although hard to pinpoint the exact date , none of them seem to know which is strange !! They recorded the video for Bitterest Pill in mid August and they'd known for a few weeks by that point.. Weller and his Dad had sorted out his contract for the next stage of his career before they told Rick and Bruce. John Weller was the manager of them all, but he didn't act in their interests. Bruce and Rick were treated terribly TBH.
I remember recording this myself and still have it somewhere, they also done the same type of interview, an hour long plug for The Gift on Londons Capital Radio the very same week. Which I'll dig out one day
" The Gift " Received " Mixed Reviews " Upon its release, but I have always regarded it as being a " Fine Album " That said the " Musical Differences " Were Fairly Apparent " And Paul Weller's Decision 2 Disband The Group Though Controversial At The Time , With Hindsight Was " The Right One .!!!
