Lionel (Damon Evans) goes to his parents (Sherman Hemsley and Isabel Sanford) with some news: he wishes to get his own apartment and move out of his parents' house.
From Season 3, Episode 7 'Lionel's Pad' - George and Louise are initially upset when Lionel announces he will be moving out. Their anger worsens when he announces that he'll be moving in with Jenny.

You do know that Mike Evans was the creator, and one of the writers for Good Times don't you? That's why he left the Jeffersons... he was busy with Good Times. When Good Times went off of the air...he popped back up on The Jeffersons; he and Jenny was supposed to have been in Japan.

He was more preppy and reserved than the original Lionel. I am not sure why Mike Evans left the show, then returned.

recasting the part of Lionel was HUGE mistake his character really didn't enhance the show, frankly after the actress who played George's mother died they lost a lot of humor

Zara Cully played George's mother. She was great, and had enjoyed quite an impressive stage career.
