The 2021 Mosconi Cup was an incredible piece of billiards history. After a year without fans, the Ally Pally came back in force, and both teams were ready for a dogfight. After losing their most colorful player Earl Strickland, team USA drafted their coach Jeremy Jones to play, and Jeremy absolutely rose to the occasion. The most memorable match he played was against Spanish champion David Alcaide. Congrats to everyone who played at the Mosconi.

If JJ didn't piss away 20 sec running to his chair for more baby powder after every shot he'd have had plenty of time.

The biggest argument is that the clock never had 5 sec countdown beeping. Ref did everything right, JJ just got caught up in wonderland.

All things considered in the event tonight with this, that and the other things. I finally got to see what Jeremy Jones looks like. He has experienced some very bad luck but he is a great guy and I wish him all the best.

Unfortunate, but rules are rules. I played a straight-pool match once and forgot I could just call the win, instead I thought I need to finish my run and fouled, which equaled the score. In the end I lost the match, but that is not the games or the rules fault, I should have known better.
@Taureg
@Taureg 11 месяцев назад
Sorry can you explain this?
@sajrra
@sajrra 11 месяцев назад
@@Taureg Sure, yet I am not sure which aspect of my comment you like me to explain. Every sport has it's techniques and tricks and rules and ettiquette. In order to be a world-champion you need to be able to master all if this (or at least get along with 'em as best as you can). Therefore the player with the most accuracy and the best technique might not become a world-class-player if he can't deal with the pressure. Rules are rules, deal with them. Use them to your advantage (with a tactical foul) and to your opponents disatvantage. Don't hate the player, hate the rules (or even the game). But maybe you wanted me to explain my situation at my straight-pool game (I asume you know the main rules for Straight-pool): I knew after my visit a the table the game would be over, because neither he or I managed to reach the target-score, but both players did have 25 visits at the table and therefore the game ends and the player with the most points would win. I scored until our points were equal, but I was still at the table. I potted another ball (I was ahead). Unfortunately my cueball rolled badly and I had a nearly touching ball with no other ball easily reachable. I fouled trying to do a legal shot (-1 points, shotting-right ended, and points equaled again). Apparently I could have just claimed the win, by saying so with no need to end on an other legal shot. But the draw was not allowed to be the final score, therefore the game continued and my opponent managed to outplay me. I lost a game I technically already would have won. Noone to blame except my knowledge of them dayem rules -.-

That's the rule and that's it. Still felt bad for him though. That must be an awful feeling. However if that rule is good is a different story. If the timer would be stopped players might abuse it to get more time. With the shot clock not being stopped players might be forced to play a shot although the cueball is dirty. The ref did his job and not everyone will like it. That's pretty much part of of being a referee.

Although i was supporting Team Europe, this was such an unfortunate way for JJ to lose the game/match. As you mentioned, he was never going to beat Alcaide in a shootout, but he used all of his guile and experience to get himself into a winning position and dare i say it, but for the momentary lapse of concentration, should really have won the game

I'm wondering if the referee's decision to not warn Jones (or the scotch doubles example as well) was in the spirit of refereeing? I'm new to this, so not sure what the rules are, but in some sports the umpire / referee also helps move the game along smoothly without causing unfortunate messups outside of the context of the gameplay.

Jones played his heart out, and deserved to win that match, but he should've known that the clock doesn't stop with a ball cleaning, especially as the coach, and that ref doesn't give any warnings, as we've seen.

As a European I feel biased supporting team Europe but a good game is a good game so I still enjoy when team USA wins. I usually see each shot as an individual part of the game no matter what team/player is executing the shot. Though Earl is a pain it was sad he wasn't there.. JJ performed well and yes if it was a movie maybe he had way better ending for them. Let's not forget the easiest shot becomes way harder in front of the audience, cameras and a cup a few feet away..

There was a huge piece of chalk on the cue ball which could have caused issues with that slow spin shot he was about to play…

So wouldn’t you rather take the shot and risk it rather than letting the time run out. He was trying to get more time and fucked up.
@justinmontemayor310
@justinmontemayor310 2 года назад
Jeremy didn’t call the ball cleaning for the time - he called it because there was a huge chunk of chalk on the ball and when you’re already shooting off the rail kicks/skids become more of a factor. It’s a bit disingenuous to say that’s why he did it.
