The Jesus and Mary Chain are a Scottish alternative rock band formed in East Kilbride in 1983. The band revolves around the songwriting partnership of brothers Jim and William Reid. After signing to independent label Creation Records, they released their first single "Upside Down" in 1984. Their debut album Psychocandy was released to critical acclaim in 1985 on major label WEA. The band went on to release five more studio albums before disbanding in 1999. They reunited in 2007.

Found PsychoCandy album again on youtube while doing construction (demolition) work in my house. Brings back happy memories of the 80`s, punk, fighting the world and beat the bastards.

Beneath the murk, noise and feedback their pop sensibility is incredible. No wonder they didn't care to be compared to Joy Division and truly believed they should have been the biggest band in the world

I never understood the comparison, they sound nothing alike and yet, all the contemporary interviewers were bringing up Joy Division. I'd actually say Jesus and Mary Chain have a better singer, at least from a technical standpoint.

While Darklands may have better songwriting and playing on it and is probably objectively the better record, the influence and vibe of this debut just wins it over for me! ❤️🖤🤍
