Pedals are addictive. I have no money to buy them I hope God provides. SS steel string singer, Vertex boost, Vertex Amp. And now I want this too. 🙏🏽😢. I have the SSS and the Vrtx Boost.
omg that teaser was amazing! I work in a store that proudly displays our JHS pedals. All of us music nerds at work love this show, and we love the pedals.
So grateful that The JHS Show is beginning to unlock the secrets of your own pedals. I have had the Moonshine for some time but wasn't sure how to get the best sound out of it until today. My personal favorite The Band song is It Makes No Difference.
What a great video, it’s nice to get all the explanations and descriptions. I really dug the cool jam in the beginning ! I am trying to deconstruct that jam now, very funky.
Wow! That teaser vid was incredible!!! It was your first one???? That was some quality, I loved the blend of electronic parts and moonshine materials. Very well done
I got to see the Band several times. 1970, Watkins Glen in 1973, with Bob Dylan in Montreal New Years 1974. Also in a small club after Robbie left early 1980’s. Amazing talent!!❤
F*=k'n LOVE that new guitar! Always admired your pedlz, too! Great back story of your pedal design. Wish I knew this info 3-4 yrs ago. It's easy to get caught up in pedal trends based on slightly off/witty product names that connect with buyers. Much respect to an OG designer/manufacturer of tools for us guitar freaks!
Fast forward to 2024 and I just bought a V2 Moonshine… I play mostly lap steel and I needed an overdrive with a clean blend…. It has that… but….. it’s also one of the best sounding pedals I’ve played. Laps can get a little muddy on the bottom two strings. This pedal fixes that by retaining a clarity in the low end that is really amazing! It’s my low/medium gain always on coupled with the Wampler Euphoria for my higher gain stuff… don’t get one moonshine, get two… maybe one day we can get a cascading two channel Moonshine! 🙏
yeah I've been a 2 Amp user for years but going parallel with a pa head is similar but especially if both have slightly different eqs the way reverb can like bloom from the clean side after a dynamic "hit" kind of breaks up the attack moment.
Great pedal, as usual! My favorite songs from the band, if I’m not trying to just name all the usual suspects: the night they drove old Dixie down and it makes no difference and the shape I’m in. Great great album.
Once again, great content JHS Team, you should be proud! The old teaser was great [as a video editor by trade I would have tightened some stuff up...but I'd give it a B+ 😉😜]!! All kidding aside, I own the Double Barrel and it will NOT leave my board, absolutely LOVE it. I play in a cover band with a bunch of middle aged people, and the Double Barrel just fits most of the 'Old Timey Stuff' that we cover [Stones, Skynyrd, Petty, ZZ Top, Led Zep, Faces, Talking Heads, Elvis Costello etc..etc]. Like Josh, my grandfather also ran liquor for the mob back in the 20's in DuBois, PA...so the Moonshine and Double Barrel have a special place in my heart. Folks, if you don't own a JHS Moonshine or Double Barrel....go get yourself one, you won't be sorry!
The Moonshine did sound good with the bass. It is funny you bring up The Band as I decided yesterday to listen to more 60s music and listened to Music From the Big Pink. So good!
This sounds sweet... Never really looked into this pedal till now. In order to get this kind of tone and response without a super expensive tube amp set extremely loud I myself have been using a Xotic Super Clean (with dip switches set for mid boosting) into a EHX Soul Food into a Sansamp RK5 set on edge of breakup. It took me years to find this tone through much trial and error. Excellent to see there is potentially a single pedal solution out there! Nice work!
Had a V1 for a couple of years and it became pretty much an always-on pedal for a bit of mid-heavy crunch. Played a few gigs with it on bass and it was awesome, but recently got myself a V2 for dialling in that low-end bass thump. Probably gonna keep the V1 anyway, love them both.
I love the old teaser! That was so hillbilly! I've never researched the Moonshine pedal. I really like the variety of tones. And great record time choice! I don't have a favorite song from The Band. Too many to good ones to choose from. My favorite Bob Dylan album though is Planet Waves, and I think the reason it sounds so great is because The Band is backing Dylan up.
I have this and the Kilt and these two pedals cover soooo much ground - both are criminally underrated imho. I love the Moonshine with the gain dimed, no clean blend, and the tone at noon. It’s the sound of rock n’ roll to my ears.
Great pedal. I need to go out and test one tomorrow. The Band backed Dylan on tour after he first went electric with other musicians at the Newport Folk Festival. The Band said no to Eric Clapton when he wanted to join them. Robbie Robertson was just fine on guitar by himself.
I got given a T-Rex Diva (TS with clean blend) earlier this year. Mix knobs are definitely the way to go. Maybe one day I'll be able to splash the cash for a Moonshine!
One of my absolute favorite pedals! I play bass in a doom band and I've used this as my clean tone, with just a little bit of drive rolled on. Pops out in all the best ways! Also use it as my overdrive when I play guitar. Will never part with it!
Not going to lie, all the characteristics of the Dumble you described are what most of us look for in an amp😆so you saying that you didn't like most of them was an interesting spin! With this said, loving this pedal it it might end up being my first JHS pedal
Love the idea of a pedal that offers an effect while retaining the clean signal to be included in the outgoing signal. My fave tune by The Band? Chest Fever
I love the Moondog Matinee album Josh. I'm guessing you've heard it. There's something magical about a great band doing covers. You're pedal sounds great to me.
I think the Crowther Hotcake does something like this and it's part of why it is loved so much. It keeps some of the clean signal so even when it's distorted you still get some definition coming through. Maybe I'm imagining this - it's been a while. I will have to try one of your Moonshines - the demonstration here is great.
I was just going to buy an Archer OD this week-now I am undecided! The Last Waltz is fun to watch. Great gear-Robbie Robertson’s strat is so cool. Van Morrison steals the show? Maybe!! Joni very good (Coyote).
"I've played every Dumble and they all suck." LOL. "So, this pedal is how you have a Dumble sound that is actually Good" - Josh. Love you man. I have a dozen of your pedals and always at least one on the board no matter what I'm up to. Thank you for your service!
I have the Double Barrel and when I first started trying to blend both sides it took me a while to get it right. Let me tell you, when I engage the Moonshine after the Morning Glory, it takes it to a ridiculously lush - yet heavy - harmonic overtone heaven. I wouldn't trade this pedal for anything! It's sooooo good. After watching this I just ran my bass through it, and wow! Just saved me from buying a new bass pedal :-)
I am choosing between morning glory and moonshine for my bass pedal. Actually, it will be my first overdrive pedal. I liked morning glory sound but i am having doubts after knowing moonshine with this blend knob. When pluged on bass, does the moonshine does a similar morning glory's overdrive? Can you help me on this?
@@bernardmartoni1747The dirt you get from either the Morning Glory or Moonshine is sufficient to get a bit of dirt (or gain), but I recommend you look at overdrive and distortion pedals specifically made for bass as the frequency response for guitar vs. bass is very different, and the bass pedals usually offer low/mid/high controls which you definitely need. The two pedals are both overdrives in nature, so the overall tone is not necessarily that big of a difference. The Morning Glory has the extra gain while the Moonshine has a blend to allow the blend of original clean and processed tones, plus an extra hot switch. The Moonshine produces really cool harmonics but the bass may not respond as well as the guitar. If you happen to have the Morning Glory or Moonshine already, or you intend to use it for guitar too, then yes definitely good enough to get the job done. Hope that helps!
I actually remember seeing that ad and had no idea what JHS was prior. But I also remember thinking “so what does it sound like?” The answer is that it sounds pretty damn great.
This is the ultimate heavy blues combo nice saggy warm tones with a slow rise, Charlie's secret sweet hooch recipe fermented with a special blend of mesquite Woodstock and a AW Root beer chaser on the side, lol... 🍾🥃🍺
I play bass. I love my various JHS pedals! I’ve been using them for years: the Morning Glory is one of my favorites. I use three (one on the board of every band I play in currently) and own a few more. I own and use about 20 JHS pedals. But, I have one question for JHS, I know they won’t like very much (simply because they don’t provide FOH mixing, 🤣): I would love (I need 🤒, 😬): a Morning Glory and a fuzz with a dedicated extra volume control for the dry sound in these pedals. (No ‘blend’! Two volumes: effect & dry!) Why? Simple: most FOH people don’t get it! How to mix a bass sound live... So, let’s give them a hand (fist!!)... I need to mix a fuzz sound and a low drive sound myself (on the pedal) with a dry signal. A blend knob won’t do: I need to be able to boost (or cut) one or the other myself on the fly, mostly the dry. So, I need a ‘dry boost’ knob. I’m a working bassist. I play more than two gigs a week (and work with ignorant FOH mostly). HELP!! 🤗 (Love you people!)
Nice, I play bass as well and I use a lot of guitar pedals adapted to the bass. Josh should release a special pedal line for bass, what do you think dude?
Another solution that allows you to route your signal the EXACT way you've described while being able to choose your own fuzz and drive sounds is the OBNE Signal Blender. It's also on my board and it also rocks.
i'm one of the ones who saw the original trailer! still need one of these for Bass, though I'd love to see a 3 Series Bass OD too(the clean blend could be the switch)
The cornerstone gladio sc is another great dumble circuit, my favorite actually, have yet to try the moonshine. My grandpa used to sell moonshine to get by during the Great Depression.
Long Black Veil is my fav by them right now. It changes over time. Music From Big Pink is a killer album. I would give anything to go back in time and hang out with the band while they were recording / writing in the big pink house. Screw pedals. Build a Time Machine.
