@D-Fens_1632
@D-Fens_1632 3 месяца назад
The 80s were chock full of Ethiopian famine jokes, they were as common as Michael Jackson jokes. I particularly remember a neighbor boy telling one about a booger being a meal. I don't remember the actual joke, just that the punchline was about a booger being a meal for 5 Ethiopians. I think there was an ad campaign, probably connected with the We Are the World USA for Africa famine relief, for whatever reason everyone got obsessed with African famine for a while. It was often used to get kids to eat their vegetables, "starving kids in Africa would love those peas," that sort of thing. Anyway, it's not that we have a problem with offensive humor, certain groups are just off limits now. It's a kind of privilege and it's unfortunate.

I deal with the worst things humanity is capable of all day. All the things you can't even type in a RU-vid comments section. THAT is serious. And then, when I come home, I am expected to take people play-fighting in their pants seriously too? Really? Anyone who does needs to grow up and get their priorities in order. He said a man should be killed for disagreeing with him about people play-fighting in their underwear. Good grief.

Jim has a HUGE knowledge and history of the wrestling business. It can be REALLY interesting to listen to him discuss these topics. Jim is also DANGEROUSLY opinionated, and doesn't choose his words well. Some of Jim's extreme language is intended to get a laugh, but it doesn't work for the masses. I remember when he did the commentary for NWA.... There were a few jokes that I found a bit worse than the Chicken joke... and it was alleged that other jokes or comments were edited out before they aired the show. It was said by someone who attended the early NWA tapings that the drums used for Thunder Rosa's theme were used to drown out Jim's comment about women's wrestling. I REALLY liked SOME of Jim's NWA commentary, but I realize that he could be too risky. Stu Bennett was an honorable replacement. Tim and Velvet (present day) do an OK job... but I think there's some things they could improve on. Joe Galli has been good since day one.

to be fair, in a lot of cases jims takes on the current womens wrestling we get arent even wrong. people are just that pussified and seek things to be mad about. we dont need that much womens wrestling on TV when there is a massive gap between the female stars and the others theyd like us to think are stars. Bianca vs Alexa at RR 2023 is a good example of the gap between the division. give us more rhea, becky, bianca, char and less mid tier work rates. i wont deny it tho jim does have moments where hes to stuck in the Bill Watts booking of wrestling but when he does break segments down into what they could be vs what we got the could be 9 times out of 10 sounds more believable which is missing from todays wrestling.

Cornette takes wrestling very seriously. The issue with guys like Santino is that they don't take it seriously at all. I can see why he wanted to slap Santino, but as someone in that position, it was probably a mistake to actually do it. That being said, Cornette is about as old school as it gets when it comes to things like that and so when he was breaking into the business, I'd imagine the punishment would have been much worse than a slap. As for the feud with Russo, again it comes down to Russo not having respect for the business. From the things he's said, he blames Russo for killing the wrestling business, so that's why he has so much hatred for Russo.

Recently, he heavily criticised Bray vs. LA Knight, even going as far as to say that Brag Ruined wrestling. From what I heard, the match was bad, but saying Bray "ruined wrestling" is a bit much. Because in most of the interviews I've seen with Cornette he's not 100% sold on a lot of these gimmicky wrestling stunts? Signing Jake or Logan Paul to the roster seems to me like the EXACT sort of thing Cornette would hate. Again, I'm not trying to argue with you or anything. I genuinely don't know and it's 4:30am where I am so I can't afford to go down a rabbit hole tonight 😂 I'm also 32, and I haven't followed wrasslin' since like '06 or '07. IMO you need the balance between pure wrestlers who can put on a show and that stupid gimmicky shit Russo loved so much. I know wrestling purists would disagree but I thought wrestling was at it's peak when they did have some stupid gimmick stuff and wild storylines, but then the wrestlers got into the ring and delivered an unreal technical match. Mate I tried to watch wrestling with my sons who are 16, 13, 12, 9, 5 and 2 and I nearly fucking fell asleep during it. Don't get me wrong, I'm not saying the in-ring action was bad because those guys are unreal at what they do, it just falls a bit flat to me when there's basically no storyline. But then again, I grew up in the Attitude Era and the monday night wars. Some of the angles they went with back then were absolutely fucking insane to try and market to children in this day and age. I'm not a super fan or anything either btw and I'm not trying to claim to be because I'm definitely not compared to some people. But me and my brothers never missed a WWF show or PPV from like '95-'08. Well, that's to say my older brother watched it until like 2002- he hated that whole invasion angle. I stopped watching in like 2006 because all my favourite guys had pretty much left and I was getting bored and then I suppose my little brother stopped watching a couple years later because neither of us watched it anymore.

@Rogue1sme

My reactions to the controversies: 1. Jim clearly had no racist intentions with that comment and was just thinking quickly on his feet. 2. What Santino did would have gotten you blistered in the 80s while Jim may have overreacted Jim has said this wasn't the first time Santio no sold things in fact he had done it dozens of times prior but this one was the straw that broke the camels back especially as it was on national television. 3. Ahhh Vince Russo... What he did to Wrestling is why Jim and I believe he should rot in hell. Conclusion: While Jim did overreact to things so to did the wrestling community and others involved in these controversies.

Ethiopian jokes were a school yard thing in the 80s. Was really in poor taste but wasn’t racial. I don’t care for Jim’s strong hatred of religion and for people who have opposing political beliefs. It’s just straight up hate mongering and it’s dangerous.

Friend Chicken joke is just like when Howard Cosell said "Look at that monkey run".. he didn't intend it to be racist, but many people interpreted it as such as it was obviously something you should not say out loud. But that sort of thing is just the sort of thing Cornette is known for saying, he's always used off-the-cuff analogies that only make sense to Jim Cornette.

Nothing here made me hate him, and I've laughed for most of it. He's a great wrestling mind and an amazing shit talker. The only reason he's "divisive" or "hated" by some in the wrestling community is because he tells the truth and doesn't mince words. And because of that the soft people that hate him will try to create controversy in everything he says. But he's fearless, he's the kind of guy that would tie a bucket of fried chicken on his back...🤣🤣

In my opinion I think he's one of the most passionate people about Pro Wrestling out there alive today. You may not agree with what he thinks about wrestling, but you got to respect the knowledge he has of the sport. Completely agree on the NWA incident, don't know what the fuck Jim was thinking to blurt out that joke especially during today's age, even more baffling how they allowed it in. Also, I think Jim took it way too far with that slap on Santino. He definitely deserved being ear blasted since you don't just no sell a storyline that they're trying to make, especially when you're there training to become a pro wrestler.

@jamie Corser , he slapped him as a superior not a guy out on the streets. How many times after his firing do you think he ran into him ? Those ten years, he continued to run his mouth as well . But Santino is a bitch for confronting him ? OK 👍. Kinda like all those years Cornette talked shit bout New Jack , then NJ found him in a hotel room and Cornette practically melted at the sight of him , never to talk bout him negatively again . Weird how that works . Or recently Nero who said he was going to beat Cornys ass if he ever ran into him in public , guess who stopped talking bout his wife ????

Cornys a living legend. The NWA resignation was dumb, he told a 30 year old joke and changed a few verbs. Jimmy isn't a hater of Russo, he loathes that man. I've never hated anything that much in my entire life.
