In Minnesota, one attraction has tourists seeing green. The Jolly Green Giant of Faribault County is a 60-foot fiberglass statue that has delighted townsfolk and travelers for the past 43 years. John Lauritsen has more.

If Hollywood would've made an animated series based on this Jolly Green character, they could've persuaded a lot of kids to start liking vegetables. "Popeye the Sailor Man" and his spinach can, just ain't cuttin' it today.

Canned spinach isn't the best intro to greens. I was astonished when I first bought fresh spinach! Wow, this is good!

I am glad they still allow this huge statue, it was common when I was a kid to see this kind of large advertising, most were removed in the 80's due to new city ordinance beatification projects. Where I grew up there was the Michellin Man, Carpeteria Man, The Muffler Man also Jack 'N Box had a huge scary looking Jack 'N Box even KFC had a giant spinning bucket of chicken outside it's restaurants.

I have a Little Green Sprout guy that's about 5 inches high. I think the Jolly Green Giant was one of the best advertising animes ever.
