The Jordan Poole experience might be worse than we think

Everyone is so wrong talking about Poole. There’s two narratives 1.) Poole was great. Draymond punched him = Poole is bad. Except Poole was still incredible after the punch. For a third of the season he averaged 25 and 5 on 46% shooting from the field. Punch didn’t change anything. 2.) Poole was never great. He played with Steph and the Warriors. Except Poole was his best when he started OVER Steph. When Curry was injured. Those 3 starts he had when Steph was hurt in the playoffs he averaged 27 points on 60-50-90 shooting. Most of his points were self generated too. Pull ups, drive to baskets, fast breaks. Yes everyone looks better on the Warriors. But no player has ever looked that good in this system minus Steph, Klay or KD I believe his ego has exploded. Being a “max contract champion”. Goes to a terrible team and expects everyone to treat him like he’s Lebron going back to Cleveland. The truth is, Poole isn’t doing anything new. He had all of these “shaqtin” moments on the Dubs but they wouldn’t tolerate them. Kerr would bench him after, or Draymond would yell at him. There is zero accountability in Washington. No one with more seniority than him sadly.

Not only Draymond punched him, now everyone wants to punch him.

The key thing o know about Poole is that, even in his best year at Golden State, he didn't make the players around him better. It was clear to me from the beginning that his best role would be as a sixth man a la Jamal Crawford or Lou Williams. He's too wrapped up in his own ego to worry about others. None the less, I thought he'd be good right up to the moment I saw the locker room clip of him & Wiggins talking about him "getting the bag." JP always had a bit of an egocentric, entitled attitude. Adding money (taking away the hunger) f***ed up his head.

He does NOT even play hard. Mental issue or not, no intensity, no effort ---> bench you go. Nobody should feel sorry for a 32M$ per year man.

At this point it’s SUPER obvious that the Warriors made the right call extending Draymond and shipping JP out.

I feel so bad for Jordan Poole. Yeah, he brought it on himself, but I still want to see him succeed.

From March thru now, Jordan Poole is averaging 20.3 points, 6.2 assists, 3.3 rebounds, on 44/36/94 splits. He had seven games where he scored 25 points or more, and eleven games where he had 6 or more assists. He was just being misused.

He played on a team with Klay and Steph so if a teams focus only on them and Wiggins I’m not surprised that he’d find some leeway to do what he wants do so now that he’s a starter of his own team all his flaws are being exposed

I don't feel bad for the guy. If he wants to improve his game - get in the gym, and be OBSESSIVE about getting better. JP doesn't have that kinda drive in him. You could tell as soon as you saw that the first thing on his mind after winning a championship was $$$... not his legacy, not the Warriors dynasty, not winning more.... money..... that says it all right there. It's funny watching Jordan Poole because if you notice he plays with his mouth piece now like Stephan Curry does... And it really is the coach's fault too. If he would not give him the green light and tell him , I'll give you three open three pointers , but if you shoot a crazy 28-footer , i'm gonna put you on the bench.... The coach has accountability too, but he allows him to shoot....

those stats show that the wizards need a new head coach. It is not as simple as blaming the player. We know that Kuzma, Tyus Jones and Jordan Poole are not suddenly bad players. They need to hire a real coach.

I still think Jordan Poole is a great player but he was ripped from a comfortable family team. He probably feels betrayed and and he is going to have to get his confidence back but he has to stay humble along the way. I hope he figures it out. He needs a solid group around him to help him stay positive and learn from this change.
