With no disrespect, I don't think we could've had a more articulate & intelligent person that endured this condition and shared his story with much honesty & courage
He was injured about the day I graduated from university. I suffered my severe traumatic brain injury in April’96. In my rehab I looked to him for inspiration, like so many others. His struggle has still inspired me tremendously. I received something from his wife that I kept, but kept forgetting to respond. When I finally realized I hadn’t I went to write back and they had both passed away. 💧You should read his book “Still Me”

I've had the air hose disconnect in the middle of the night, And you're just laying there in the dark, you can't breathe, and you just hope they get to you -- an alarm goes off, but that's after you've already missed two breaths." That is horrifying.
Christopher was a famous star, but he never took that for granted. I new Robin Williams really well and got to meet Christopher through him. Chris showed the strength to be a real Superman, and use his accident to help others. He was brave an courageous but also stubborn as hell, and it got him through his dark times, and he made a difference. I will never forget meeting him, and when i had my own accident leaving me disabled, i never once let myself feel bad, because Chris showed a huge stength of character and lived life. The world lost a truly great man when Chris passed away.
It's interesting that he doubted his future at 2am in the morning in the first few months after the accident, but then went on to have a future far more powerful and stronger than even his multiple film appearances as the greatest superhero ever.
Such an inspirational and brave guy. I was so sorry he had to go through all this. My brother did too. I know how awful and tough that path is first hand. I still, even now, can't believe he is gone. For us, he will always be Superman.
With a career in nursing for 33 years, I have to say I have met many patients who were quadriplegics or paraplegics. Many had a positive attitude, but none as inspirational as the Christopher Reeve family!! But, it does make a person take stock of your own life and become more appreciative of all of the blessings we have!
He went through so much since this interview. But he did make improvements over time. Sad he recovered completely by passing on, but what he did was so extraordinary!
it's hard to let go when your wife sings like an angel and his family loved him so much. What a great man, those up stairs we call them the higher power or god they control life and death and everything in between. It's hard to piece together why they picked this man for this pain and his wife died at such a young age at 46.
I often think the sams thing, and I think it's the same reason as Annette Funnicello, Michael J. Fox, and Terry Fox. To promote research to find a cure for such diseases so that one day mankind won't have to face this ever again.
Everyone I knew said that when he died he was “free” again and that in a small way it was a good thing because his suffering was over. I never saw it like that. I thought it was a really sad thing as he still seemed to be enjoying life and was making the most of it as best as he could. He had a zest for life and I was devastated when he died
Hi, sliat1981! Unfortunately, Chris is not free. He and all other famous people are like puppets who must do as they're told. At some point, they became assimilated by The All Seeing Eye, the Masonic 'God' which is really more like 'The Devil', or something. Once these folks joined the 'Left Eye God' they had to follow scripts and obey. This 'God' loves to fool us. Everything is like a prank. Legions of famous people use television to fool us about everything. Chris is one heck of a actor to have fooled us so well. I had always just assumed he was really paralyzed until I learned about The Theater Of The Real.

@@sliat1981 As I explained, Chris is like, a slave of this 'All Seeing Eye'. He doesn't have a career unless the Eye God allows him to have one. I don't know how it works since I never joined...But if you see a person who is rich or famous or powerful in this world they are puppets of the 'Left Eye God'. I could speculate: Let's see...what if this 'God' has the power to send them to 'Hell', or something like that? If you were a slave/puppet of a God who could send you to hell, wouldn't you obey your God? If your God said, "Chris, here's what I want you to do: I want you to pretend you've been paralyzed. Make it seem real and don't crack-up and laugh." Chris only had to act paralyzed when camera were on him. It's not like he sat in a wheelchair for 9 years. When cameras weren't around and he wasn't doing interviews he could live a normal life. I hope Chris served his God well and isn't in Hell. I'm sure he's fine. He did a good job in The Theater Of The Real.
i have always loved Chris. to me he was a real life Superman, more so off screen. I miss his smile and how caring and loving he was, he never allowed his celebrity status to treat other like they were less important.
Maybe you still can. He's alive and was never paralyzed. It was acting. Watch his right leg at 15:36 of the video. We accept the 'reality' we are presented with. From our earliest years we are shown television and we see the 'news' and we come to accept whatever it tells us without suspicion. It shows us a series of fictional movies but pretends they are fact. Somehow, they are all pretending and acting-out the dramas and tragedies. Does anything real ever happen? How many of us are being fooled? Once we acquire true suspicion and examine the claims from a critical perspective, we discover that these lies are not that hard to see through. They even seem to give many clues and hints so that the skeptical observer can reach the correct conclusion and realize it's all fake. Maybe there's a type of audience that watches us as we get fooled by all the movies and hoaxes being performed around us. One thing that's certain is that this type of hoax is very detailed. They will follow through and act out every conceivable aspect for the rest of their lives. Or at least the parts we can see on television.

@@sliat1981 Haha. No, that is no spasm where his fingers are standing up. His fingers are calm and steady. He is definitely in control of his digits. Try it with your own hand as I suggested. You simply cannot make your fingers stand up unless you are sending a signal to them from your brain. If that signal can reach chris' fingers from his brain then he isn't paralyzed.
He was an example of courage and strength . I experienced the same In 2004 but I was lucky I had pains for a month and recovered immediately I still remember the fall and even the horse...
I met Christopher when he stayed in London such a nice guy although he was incredibly handsome as superman he was also Gorgeous as himself I fell in love with Christopher hook line and sinker he was not married at the time but did live with girl but a girl can hope can't she I was devastated when he had the accident and so heartbroken when he passed
Christopher Reeve wasn't Superman. Superman was Christopher Reeve. Rest your soul! The fact that Dana died just two years after Chris at the age of only 44 years because of lung cancer and she never touched a cigarette make their fate even more tragic 😥😥
My cousin died falling from a horse. Nobody was there and we can’t figure out how it happened. He was a trained stunt man seems like no matter how he was thrown from that horse he would’ve known how to land or been able to figure it out. We will never know
I wish he was still around and never had that dreaded accident in the first place.. This is harrowing to watch this poor man go through the horrors of this. How awful.. It shouldn't have happened.. He was and still is my Superman.... Love him God Bless Him x
It's such irony/poetic INjustice that superman suffered such a tragic accident. I know people go through things like these everyday, and nobody is immune, but it's such a coincidence imo.
In a way I think it was something of a blessing that he went before Dana did. I dont know that he would have been able to carry on with all his problems & cope with the love of his life dying of cancer

I imagine it’s like having end stages of ALS only I think ALS might even be worse as it progresses. Ugh, such a horrible accident. Loved Christopher Reeve. He was a great man
8:04 i think he's right... it don't make sense. even if both your hands get stuck on the horses brible, you're still about 8 feet off the ground, how are you going to be hitting your head with that much force? the last thing he remembers was 7:00 getting his horse ready. this accident was only witnessed by a couple of people. no cameras or video. and why did his air tube became disconnected so many times "happened frequently" 10:52? i think he was supposed to die.
It's not really accurate to say he wasn't doing anything unusual to cause the accident. He was rich but also chose to spend a lot more time than usual indulging in pursuits where this kind of thing does occasionally occur. He could do a lot more of it than most people because he had the time and money and interest to do so. In itself, that put him at higher risk - roll the dice more often and eventually some very bad numbers you don't want will come up. He simply was in a position to roll that dice more often. If I had the money for example, I wouldn't scuba dive (which I began in 1990), 5 or 10 times a year, I'd dive 50 or 60 times a year, and eventually, something bad might occur just from frequency of activity involving considerable risk. I used to ride horses quite a lot as a teenager and in my early 20s but gave up due to assessing it as too unpredictable, too much reliance on a large, flighty animal. That also reduced my risk to nothing as far as that activity was concerned. The argument that it was a freakish event that could happen to anyone is like saying why do lotto winners lose millions usually in less than a decade but normal people don't - the answer is simply that they have more opportunities to lose it, and so eventually they do.

The announcer mentions two years: The years he mentions are 2004 & 2006. HAHA! So you see, honey, this commercial was predicting the dates of Reeve's death hoax and his wife's death hoax. Reeve's accident that caused his paralysis was also predicted in his final film before the accident titled "Above Suspicion" where he literally plays a guy in a wheelchair. You see, my dear, this is how they do things: They always telegraph or predict the hoax in popular culture before it happens.
