They're an extremely friendly band. You don't normally get chance to talk to bands after the gig but I bought an old album off their merch desk after their gig a few years ago and I got chatting to them for like a good 15-20 minutes and they even signed the album cover. I was amazed by how nice they were.
I have been listening to this band for years now. Why they aren’t big or why they aren’t more popular truly doesn’t matter to me. The amount of groups they have influenced and the fact that they continue to release art that is true to themselves is all that matters.
Because we are in a world of sheep that only listen to mainstream Generic pop or volgar Music. They shy away from pure emotion and experiences that's been passionately compressed into this beautiful art by the Joy Formidable.
@@JayUchiha17 yeah, of cause your elite music tastes are superior to lowlife "sheep's". It's impossible to appreciate someones music without shitting on others, right? Guess we really are in a "world of sheep" then. The reason why they aren't "big" is simple - not everyone love shoegaze-like indie rock. And it's totally ok.
I’ve been trying to find this song for over 6 years and now I find when I’m in the Marine Corps. It’s been on my mind for years annoying me and I finally found this beautiful song
The only thing bigger than the dust storm in the video is the massive wall of sound that the band unleashed with the guitar, bass and drums!!! The Joy Formidable are just so refreshing...I'm not an EDM or Pop music hater by any stretch ofthe imagination, but nothing beats just playing your real instruments and singing from your heart like them, not even a pesky sandstorm...
Saw Joy at Austin City Limits Music Festival, an epic performance! We were lucky enough to briefly meet them after the show, they were very gracious and kind. Support this band!! They play in Austin again October 12.
Why's everyone complaining about the lack of sand?? We don't want beautiful Ritzy Bryan and company to go blind!! Just listen and love, who cares about authenticity in the video!! Can't wait to see them live once again, met them twice and they were just awesome possum cherry blossom sause.
Been following these guys ever since I tried to sign them up to the label I worked for back in the day. They used to be called Sidecar Kisses then, so glad they are doing well. Good music still lives on!!
This video is brilliant and the song is epic and massively inspiring. The group here is the best definition of the expression "power trio". Lots of emotional and musical power. The idea of the sand storm is fantastic and almost a literal punch in the stomach. Visual and musical poetry that is not for the faint of heart. Bravo.
Honestly never heard of this band until recently. This band is great and the sound is so powerful. All their songs never fail to impress me❤love their name
I loved this song the first time I heard it. Still do. One of my favorite bands. Makes me want to go buy a ladder (or you know, listen to more TJF songs.)
(Just putting this here for convenience) "This Ladder Is Ours" Let's take this walk it's long overdue And let this loathe crawl over you finally. Let's take this walk it's overdue. Let's sit and talk and slow things down. Just be our old selves again finally. Let's take this walk Let's take a walk to somewhere pretty. This ladder is ours This ladder is ours We can be anybody else Hold on to the fringe Jump through from the past. This ladder is ours This ladder is ours This is where everybody turns out right in the end. Can you play a part? See us walking through the sunshine Ask me "Where I've been?" Back to Ire? Back to desire This is where it all begins! This ladder is ours This ladder is ours We can be anybody else Hold on to the fringe Jump through from the past. This ladder is ours This ladder is ours This is where everybody turns out right in the end. Can you play that part? This ladder is ours This ladder is ours This ladder is ours This ladder is ours This ladder is ours This ladder is ours This ladder is ours This ladder is ours
THEY ARE COMING TO MÉXICO ON MAY 15TH OMG!! I CAN'T BELIEVE IT. I started listening to them back when I was in high school and know I'm a graduate and a teacher and I hope I could go and see them ❤️
Between this song, "Wolf's Law," & "Cholla," "This Ladder is Ours," is my fave. Of course all of them are good, I just love the melody, and the feeling of the entire song. The texture is really good to. I love the sound of Ritzy's guitar distortion, especially on those chords after she sings her 1st line. The piano in "Wolf's Law," is also a nice change of pace, especially since I've been listening to a lot of piano oriented music. As for "Cholla," the rhythm reminds me of an old drinking song.
I love this video, dust or fog? They are special with their mastery of time signature versatility. Musicians know what this is technically difficult to be in 4/4, 5/4 and extra bars. Drummer is banging the shit out of them in appropriate moments. Congratulations to them. I was lucky to see them in LA, looking forward to seeing them again
iT was Formidable in 2014 when I listened it for the first time pOwerr FUUULL , and today... it stay the same for me, It will never go, good band, good sounds, good video particular fOrmidaBle to play in these siTuation !
When she sings "this is where it all begins" and the dust flies off of them. Wow! Really finding this personal to me at the moment, and just an amazing song and band.

Very professional - doing a remarkable job of playing through that dust storm ;-) Saw them again in London last week, very underrated but greatly appreciated.
I accidentally stumbled across this song while looking for the video for 'Whirring' so glad I decided to listen to it, this is a great song, the intro is the best I have heard in such a long time! Now......time to go listen to their other songs!
still can't understand why this band isn't global and changed the world. Their music and message is so great. Will never understand other than the hollywood crap that oppresses QUALITY over QUANTITY.
Not Hollywood: Record labels pushing rap and manufactured pop: Both are FAR cheaper to groom, produce and put on the road than a full band of actual musicians than some douche with a mic, a few hyper boys and/or some underpaid dancers. Plus: Rap and pop acts are designed to, for the most part, he disposable and easily replaced so less money needs to go to development
Semantics. I interpreted "Hollywood crap" as a euphemism for low budget, mass-produced music with little/no artistic integrity, which is what TJF is most definitely not.
Wohoooow.....from now on, definitely my favorite band.. the 2nd album seems to be the greatest that I've heard - and i already thought that about the 1st :-P but god, awesome
Once again, these three crushed it this weekend in DC. A tiny church it was. Hot, maybe 120 people, and they hammered down as if they were in a stadium. Unreal.
I wished so hard that she would come back. When I hurt her and broke her heart, she left. I wished so hard to the moon, the stars, the sun, god, Santa Claus. I literally spoke about her until my friends stopped wanting to call me or see me. It was all I ever talked about. I discovered this song at a wedding we worked on together about 6-7 years ago. If she never comes back, that’s fine. But I’ll always hear this and wish we could just be our old selves again, finally... If you ever read this, it’s you. It was always you. And it still is.
