One of the few interviews in Powerlifting I have actually enjoyed. Ben seems well educated on the sport and knows what it will take to bring in revenue again and overall pretty cool guy.

Thanks JTS for getting Mr. Pollack on the show. His recent performances have really brought him to the attention of the powerlifting audience, and he's just as articulate as he is strong.

Oh dang, fancy seeing Ben here. It's not surprising though; I used to go to Hyde Park Gym back when I lived in the area and he's the nicest dude in the gym. If you ever train with him/around him PAY ATTENTION!

By the way: The game you are talking about is 5v5 and is called Dota 2. I know that because I used to play this game for 7 years and it is incredibly hard to get a pro in this scene.

Always enjoy the Juggernaut podcasts and great to see you have Ben Pollack on. Lifters listen carefully to Ben because there were lifting kernels in there that any competitor could benefit from.

Seen him workout at Big Tex a few times. He weights about 10 lbs more than me. Says his Bench is shit at 425, I'm sitting here wishing I could do 275 more than once. :'(

It's crazy how fast esports have grown! More people watched the League of Legends final for Worlds than watched the final for the NBA in 2015.

Can someone explain to me how video games get categorized as a "sport"
@magicscrub9460
@magicscrub9460 7 лет назад
Drew they're team events that pit competitors against each other while audiences watch. They involve skill, intelligence, and yes, physicality in the coordination and execution of pressing keys. You're welcome to think otherwise, but I don't think it has anything to do with what most people consider sports. What else would you call it? I don't think it tarnishes the image of sports at all. It takes more energy to get upset about it then it does to just ignore it if you don't agree.
@magicscrub9460

*or individual events.

They're esports. Unless people are comfortable dropping the e, I don't think anyone thinks they're quite the same as other sports. But they require sustained mental effort and focus over a period of several days at tournaments, and believe it or not people have had hand injuries. No one gets out of breath, but they do achieve technical prowess. So they're comparable to other sports, but also different, which is why they have a different name. Esports.

You can make money is other feds like USPA. Lots of "tested" lifters have moved on to USPA because of that. Take John Haak for example. Still claims Natty I'm sure
