I feel that they missed a trick by not getting Riker to tell Amanda about his time as a Q and the temptation to use the power.

The Continuum stripped Q of his powers as punishment. Couldn't they have done the same to Amanda? Or to her parents, for that matter?

I always got the feeling that deep down they wanted to get rid of them anyways, so they gave them an impossible choice like this..they probably set up her parents with a similar situation, people would die if they didn't use their powers so they gave in..then the Q get to feel justified in destroying the Q that left the continuum.

Taking away powers is a punishment, and wanting to leave the Continuum should not be cause for punishment. Thus, it would be morally wrong to do anything to them, including stripping their powers, for wanting to be on Earth. Why not take away their powers the second they used them again? Because, simply put, they can do a whole lot of damage to the Q with what they know whether they are omnipotent or not. As for Amanda? She hasn't done anything. Premptively rendering her powerless is like breaking a guy's arms just so that he doesn't hurt anyone else. Doing it afterwards? It allows her one moment, one action, of complete omnipotence to do as much damage as she can. Which is morally reprehensible. Being wishy washy about this was never in the cards.

I love the foreshadowing of "All Good Things" when Q tells Picard that the jury is still out on the trial from Encounter at Farpoint.

This episode is very unique in that Q is actually very serious in this one. The way he chuckles to himself as Picard dresses him down as if he's thinking *This is way out of your realm this time, Jean Luc. You'd probably actually agree with me if you understood.*

If they can take Q's power away, why didn't they take Amanda's power away? Or her parents' powers?

Might not be a permanent solution. Maybe with Q, it was more temporary and with past foes looking for him, made wanting them back more necessary. Plus i wonder how many Qs it takes to inhibit the powers of another and for how long? dose one Q have to use their powers a max all the time to take away the powers of another? if so, that'd mean two Qs would effectively be depowered.

I always assumed the Continuum knew the temptation would be too great to use their powers and thus saw this "choice" as execution but delayed. Thus giving them their "superior morality".

Of course there is a third option that was forgotten about: have her powers taken away and make her fully human. The Q continuum did just that to Q in Deja Q.

The sad truth is Q had an incredibly difficult decision that Picard was not qualified to deal with himself. Becaise if the Q truly are God-like, then they, as Gods, must make the difficult decisions of allowing someone with Amanda's unchecked powers roam free. And. In my head Canon, it was Q himself to lobbied for Amanda to not be harmed.

My personal headcanon is Amanda was the original trigger for the Q civil war. I can't imagine Quinn was released by accident, nor that Q Jr was immediately thought of as a solution without regards to Amanda. Everything happened pretty quickly for a race of immortals to be coincidental and unrelated to Amanda.

Picard doesn’t really fully understand that in this situation, he’s dealing with Q as a spokesman for the entire group of Q and not as an individual. Q alone has no ability to stop the judgement but was chosen for this assignment because of his knowledge and experience with humans. This may be one of my favorite W episodes.

The Continuum could have just stripped Amanda of her powers, the same way they did of Q a few seasons earlier.

In this case, Q is right. He does have the superior morality. Human beings, even at this point, have many paces. Rage, peace, love and hatred. Passions that can make a person do selfless deeds, or terrible things. With the power of a Q, a human could do things great and terrible. That is why the Q Continuum has to be cautious of such things.
