Hi David, thank you so much for your effort in making such an instructive video about our ST100. We are so happy to see how you interact with our product in the video. Other than that, we noticed that you felt a bit disappointed while you were testing diode under Auto mode. We are actually sorry for the confusion caused to you since Auto mode can only be used to identify measurements including Voltage, Resistance and Continuity. That’s the reason why, from 0:13:20 to 0:13:40 in the video, you only got a reading for resistance instead of diode. As for diode test, you will need to cycle through the button “Func” to Diode mode where the display shows symbol “OL”. Thanks again for the video and hope you will find our ST100 helpful in your electrical works.

NCV testers have saved me cutting into live wires many times, especially in old home renovation jobs that were wired incorrectly. 30 years ago, these sort of testers were $50! they are so cheap now and alot more advanced. 👍🤓

That test meter seems crap and I wouldnt waste my money on it. It''s too slow to come to a 'almost' stable reading. The NCV test will be static sensitive so try rubbing the insulated tip on your cloths and see the reading it produces. Ian.. 2E0IFZ

Never assume a mains cable or power point is not live if the NCV function does not detect anything, this could be dangerous . I believe that when you were moving the probe along the 12V battery lead you were detecting static electricity generated by moving the plastic tip up and down the wire. Try it on your clothes! Happy to be corrected if I'm wrong. Cheers.

It is hard to tell looking at the video but on the DC wires the motion that seemed to trigger the live indicator, at least from my angle, was in toward the wire, rather than along the length. On a DC lead I would think that would correspond to a detectable increase in field strength as well.

Thanks for the nice review, Dave. Really seems like an interesting design. BTW, a big difference compared to my old Simpson 260 (great meter) that I used years ago. However, I do miss the analog meters, in a way, for certain components / applications. 73, AC3HT

Testing the diode in Auto, it is not sure what you want to test so it is trying it read ohms of your fingers.

Why should a solid state meter care if it is at 2000 metets or 3000?

Looks like a pile of crap to me! Much prefer my Fluke 27 which I´ve used for some 35 years and still going strong!
