Kaspar Mouthpieces were at one time the most prolific mouthpieces in American orchestras. Unfortunately, for those looking today for the Holy Grail, they are among the most inconsistent mouthpieces ever made for clarinet...in part because there were two different people named Frank Kaspar! It's like "The Prestige." If you don't get that reference, look it up. It's a great movie, one of the greatest science fiction movies ever made.
So many young players today are looking for more open mouthpieces, such as the BD5. The genius of both Kaspars were their ability to make open facings easy and efficient for reeds at the time. Sadly, many different blanks were used throughout both of their long careers...part of the reason for the wildly inconsistent quality.
