1956 Nash Ambassador Super
Join us as we visit with Jim about his rare 1956 Nash Ambassador Super
The Nash Ambassador is a luxury automobile that was produced by Nash Motors from 1927 until 1957. For the first five years it was a top trim level, then from 1932 on a standalone model. Ambassadors were lavishly equipped and beautifully constructed, earning them the nickname “the Kenosha Duesenberg”. But for a period between 1929-1934 when Nash produced a line of seven-passenger saloons and limousines, the Ambassador series was the maker’s "flagship", and remained so following the Nash-Hudson merger in 1954. From 1958 until 1965, the cars were named Rambler Ambassador and then from the 1966 through 1974 model years as the AMC Ambassador. The continued use the Ambassador model name made it "one of the longest-lived automobile nameplates in automotive history.”
Ambassador models fielded for 1956 were heavily re-styled in the rear with big "lollipop" taillights and the cars were offered in a variety of two-and three-tone color schemes. The Ambassador line up was reduced to Super sedans with I6 engines as well as V8 powered Super and Custom sedans and the hardtop Custom Country Club. The Packard V8 was available through April 1956 after which AMC installed its own 250 cu in (4.1 L) V8 engine producing 190 bhp (142 kW; 193 PS) and the cars were now called "Ambassador Special”.

my first car at 16 years old was a '67 rambler ambassador. I was directed to this car by my dad. I always wondered if it was the fold down seats that my dad liked for me, as I had a steady girlfriend for at least the past 6 months? My girlfriend and I had so much fun at night in the strawberry fields! a Roving Motel!

I have, perversely, always thought these were sharp looking cars. It is the 1929 - 33 Ambassadors that were called Kenosha Duesenbergs.

A very nice example and well maintained. Thank you for the video. Given that the Ambassador Six had seven mains, full pressure lubrication, and a fully counter balanced crankshaft; they did last a long whole before rebuilds. 1956 was the last year for that engine, at least in the US, as the big Nash and Hudson models all used AMC's 327 V-8 for their final year.

@@TwoGuysandaRide And there are still people who think they bought 327s from Chevy and 390s from Ford.
@michaelbenardo5695
@michaelbenardo5695 Год назад
They also think that the Studebaker 289 was the Ford 289, and the later AMC 360 was Chrysler's 360.

I've been nearly floored more than one time to hear some 'car guy' say that the Hydra Matic transmission of this era had no Park position. Park was found by shifting to reverse and turning off the engine. To start the engine depress the brake, shift to neutral and turn the key. Never ever shift into reverse while rolling forward or major damage would be done to the tranny. This shift style was used on early Hydra Matics through the 1956 model year on Oldsmobiles and Pontiacs, not sure about other brands.

One of Charles starkweathers victims had a 55 or 56 Buick with that feature. When starkweathers tried to start the car he didn't know how.

I have always thought if the American car companies would build cars styled like this and others from the era, but with modern suspension, brakes, and safety features, they could not build them fast enough to meet demand. It makes you wonder?

Great safety feature for visibility if one of the headlights went out. Safety mandated for all cars starting 1968, iirc.

Innovations come from independents because a) they aren't afraid to be weird and b) the big three don't need Innovations to sell cars.

There was also a nude Lady hood mascot, which was hand-made and signed by the artist.

The flying lady ornaments designed by George Petty were a Nash feature. Legend has it, straight-laced Romney 'disappeared' these when he took the reins. I find it hard to believe they were hand made, aside from the original sculpture.

1952 era dash. Somewhat minimalist,nice it includes radio/clock. If deleted, numbers etc still appear on display.and '56 would've had a 250v-8 avail (Packard 352v8 in '55.)sales definitely dwindling @this time.
