Yeah...your grind is really wonky!!! Mine looks pretty good!! A bummer for sure! I do like it overall but seeing the grind on yours does leave a little concern! Thanks for sharing brother!
Awesome! You know, apart from my weird grind, it really is a cool knife and an impressive value. Glad you are loving yours! Be well and thanks for checking out the review!
The Wife picked one up for me last week. Mine actually has a half stop(and a quarter stop, as well..I KNOW), for what it is it's a nice slip joint knife. Also on mine the opening action is a lot stiffer
I was right-- mine was indeed in the mailbox yesterday. Very pleased with it. It's centered perfectly, with only 3 or 4 almost undetectable gaps in the construction. They did a great job on the scales. The pins are absolutely flush & the scales are so baby's-butt smooth you think they're ebony until you get it in hand & realize that they're G10. The spring is flush both open & closed. I think the blade on yours must have been a 'Friday Afternoon Special'. The grind on mine is well-done on both sides, as are the pulls. Hate that you got a poor example. Were you able to even it up? Definitely $25 well-spent. Probably would have given $40 or a little more. Cool thing is that you & I paid the same amount for this knife around 3 years apart. Definitely not something you commonly see these days.
Thanks man! Yeah, its really pretty good for the price and that's a great point, nice gift option. The Case is a fun little knife, I just wished they were less expensive... not really worth $60 in my opinion.
I wish more companies would use long pulls on Barlows & jacks. Particularly when a knife has a hard pull. First time I've seen one on both sides. Don't care about a half-stop. Actually prefer knives without them. Certainly VERY glad they didn't put a pocket clip on a traditional style knife. Shouldn't have put a lanyard hole in it either. Getting tired of everybody & his uncle thinking they have to drill a hole in a knife or it's not complete-- particularly a traditional pocket knife. Oh, well. Got one on its way. Actually, it's probably in the mailbox.
For 25 dollars it isn't a bad knife at all. I don't mind that blade shape or size actually kind of like it. When you put it with the other 2 that are in that style the 3 make a very nice set.
I just received mine in the mail after watching this video. I’m happy to report that mine has zero QC issues that I can find. Grind is good, blade perfectly centered, no wobble, etc. Overall I think they did a good job on this but I do think you’re taking a bit of a QC gamble at this price point. My only disagreement with your review is that this isn’t a thin blade in my opinion for a slip joint. You mentioned not being a slip joint guy so you may be coming from the perspective of modern knives but for a barlow this is a thicker blade. Love the video man thanks for turning me on to this! Subbed!
Hi Christopher! So glad to have you hear. Yeah, my apologies if I misconstrued the thickness, you are correct, I was comparing it to modern folders as that is my primary interest, but I can see precisely your point. Haply to hear yours was well done, I think mine was just a one off, my Kershaws are usually quite good grind wise. This is a fun knife for the money. Thanks again and be well.
I may be wrong but believe a nail nick of that style is called a long pull. I have a GEC #97 that has a pull of a similar style and if I remember correctly, they call it the same thing.
John, you are exactly right... a long pull, I had heard that before but couldn't remember it for the life of me! Thanks! GEC makes great slips, some of the best. Appreciate you watching the video!
I have just received mine and overall I like it. I was a bit disappointed to see Kai now having knives made in China and the poorly defined grind . It is fine for what I use it for and that is an EDC knife for eating fruit and opening boxes etc. The only thing I am going to do is drill the lanyard hole for a brass liner just to reinforce the hole and to give it a finished look.. The nail nicks on mine sit higher and finish right on the edge of the and both sides are the same depth and heighten the blade.
Hey Mike! Yeah I'm now familiar with the term... and I totally agree, this long pull is a useful on this knife, especially considering the blade size and it's got a pretty nice action. Appreciate you commenting and checking out the video!
Had that same lock back but mine had a green middle bought it from snap on 30 years ago haven't seen one in 20years kershaws where always the sharpest knives from the dealer back in the day you used to have to sharpen your knife when you got it home but nowadays I find japan made an US made have better quality control but then someone will have different experiences nice review
Kershaw makes some cool stuff and agree always very sharp out of the box. This is a fun knife and reminds me of the old days. Thanks for watching and be well out there.
Thanks very much! I'm not the biggest slip joint guy either... but they are a nice change now and again and for the price, this one is pretty cool. Appreciate you watching!
My edge is pretty consistent on the one i have. And the nail nicks are even, but they made up for it by not getting the G10 all the way against the bolster on one side.
Rats! Unfortunately, I think the fit and finish is the gamble on these traditionals. How do you like it despite that? Thanks very much for checking out the review!
Hey, I'm 41 and I like it too. I think traditionals with more modern materials are very cool... nice to see them coming back a bit. I liked mine to, even with the weird grind. The Brandywine was a bit too small for my taste. I've got a review of the Kershaw Gadsden coming, it's pretty cool.
It did come very sharp, though mine had a bit of a wonky grind in terms of evenness. I do recall cutting myself on it shortly after taking it out of the box, so there's that. Lol. Thanks for checking out the review.
Right on! Yeah I liked it as well, I think it was pretty great value. Hopefully yours had a better grind than mine. I've got a review coming on the Brandywine... keep an eye out. Take care and thanks for watching.
Hi there! The quality is pretty decent considering it's a $25 slipjoint. The g10, bolsters, liners and brass pins are all smooth and have few gaps. My blade was centered, but I can't say everyone will be. Hope that helps. Thanks for checking out the review.
So the groove is a "long pull", not a "nail nick"! Cool, wasn't aware of that term, very helpful! Agree it's a good looking knife. Thank you for watching!
