In this video, I break down the secret to great characters and tell you how to write great characters. You'll get great writing advice, writing tips, Avatar analysis, atla analysis, avatar the last airbender review, avatar the last airbender theory, avatar the last airbender breakdown, how to write complex characters, and much more. This is not an atla trailer analysis, avatar trailer reaction, avatar trailer breakdown, netflix avatar predictions, netflix avatar theory, netflix avatar trailer breakdown, or anything of the sort. We will discuss things like worldbuilding, plot development, dialogue, character arc, and character psychology. We won't discuss the psychology of Azula, what is Toph's character arc, the psychology of Zuko, the worldbuilding in Zuko Alone, or the Philosophy of Uncle Iroh. Also not an avatar iceberg. This is not avatar: the last airbender official teaser or trailer 2. I will be overanalyzing aang, not overanalyzing korra, or overanalyzing netflix's live action atla teaser trailer. You have been warned.

Aang's merciful nature in a mature story is part of what makes him unique; most mature stories have a protagonist who kills/hurts others at some point for the sake of the greater good, even if they don't want to.

The POWER SYSTEM is the base of the Worldbuilding and tree you mentioned. Which is why it's evident in all manga/anime. Which Avatar: The Lastbender is no different. Thank you for your videos. They are priceless.

avatar isn't an anime right? dictionaries say anime is a piece of animation made in japan, something like that. yes avatar has many asian. influences but it's style isn't completely anime, it has most of it but it is mixed with also a pixar, disney, or western design too. also its made in america by an american network, made by americans (also asians but they were still american too)

This was a really good video and I *really* liked what you said about using worldbuilding as a catalyst or fuel to inform a character's personality. It made me think about how easy it is to make a wide cast of characters, perhaps some who's ideals are the opposite of their culture's because it oppressed them or traumatized them and now they resent it. Without the trauma, your character could be an inherent outcast. I feel like the makers of Avatar were really able to show their prowess at using this technique in Legend of Korra. You can really feel that every one of the characters is or has a piece of where they came from even if they are trying to overthrow their nation and/or the main characters. It feels like a very mature or adult show because *all* the characters feel so real and believable despite living in a world with magic and animals beyond our comprehension.

Exactly! It's so fascinating to see how characters react to their world. Stories like that are so relatable because that's what happens to us in real life, we're all shaped by our environment and we react to it in different ways. I also agree, believability is a lot more about how real your characters feel and a lot less about how realistic the genre is. Thanks for the comment :)
