I bought this keyboard a couple months ago. Important notes, Their reviews on their site are controlled. I submitted a review voicing my frustrations with their customer service and they won't list it. It goes through a "screening process" before it shows up. So while I like the keyboard, I have some problems with how they treated me as a customer and their ethics. Their responses to me were slow and lacking any meaningful information. The keyboard is great, but the purchasing experience was so poor I couldn't recommend it to anyone.
my post on their subreddit complaining about them never updating my order, despite them asking me if I wanted to change from reds to browns, and never giving me a shipping notification got hidden
Hope LTT sees this stuff and pins one of the comments about how bad their customer service and all is. This is important information if your buying this.
I think I lucked out. My experience with them was really positive lol I didn't even know they had complaints untill I started seeing people's stories on this video
that is basically a scam, if they tout reviews but screen them, even it lots of smaller companies might do this these days its still a scam. and linux should seriously reconsider advertising for this company
As someone who works in excel during the day and games at night. I would like to see the detachable numpad become more common because I need it for work, but when I’m gaming I have to move my keyboard sideways in order to stop hitting it with my mouse.
I take some issue with what Linus said about the stabilizers. He said they are hand lubed and clipped, but they sound like they may have lube present in the housing and where the wire clips into it, but there is none where the wire goes into the stem, which is where most rattle comes from. Also, about his comment of clipping and lubing stabilizers being time consuming and a pain, you can do it in about a minute from in the board to back in. Clipping is just taking a pair of flush cutters and clipping off the plastic springs at the bottom for a clackier bottom out. For lubing, there are three areas you want to lube: the end of the wire where it enters the stem, with a copious amount there, where the wire clips to the housing, and where the stem slides against the housing. Keep in mind this can all be done with a 50 cent tube of dielectric grease. Taeha Types has an excellent guide on how to do this, if anyone is interested.
As someone with RSI I can't use a regular keyboard for much time without massive pain, however I can type all day long on an ergonomic keyboard. To this end surely an ergonomic must therefore help prevent RSI in anyone who doesn't yet have it, so it'd be nice to see more keyboards move towards being ergo. Most people I've talked to that don't use one are put off by the change in layout but it doesn't take long to adapt.
After checking the product page, I was surprised to see that the price is quite reasonable, especially for how unique the product is compared to other keyboards around the same price. I will certainly consider this for my next upgrade.
@@peterjszerszen Thats true. Even for gaming I still prefer wired headsets. Same Goes for mice. But yes, Apple is trying hard to wreck the whole Electronics industry. I Wish that company had never been started in the first place. I really really Hate Apple with every fiber in my body. As long as they could just wreck it for their own customers then I could just ignore them but sadly they hold great power over their competition it seems
Bought this keyboard last year after seeing it at Hardware Canucks. Arrived January. They send emails about the status every 40 days. Also those keyboards are custom made. Means you order, they make it. That's why it takes time.
Cherry MX browns are my all time favorite switch, i am a verry heavy handed person and to me it just feels the best. the problem for me with lighter switches is that even resting my hands on the keyboard i rest them down hard enough that they sometimes register as keystrokes, this is especially a problem for me with the cherry MX speed switches, with those it feels like if is so much as breath on the keyboard it will start typing, no doubt great for competetive esports gaming, but since i am not a esports pro, nor do i aspire to become one, i will stick to what is comfortable and has me typing the fastest
I know its a showcase video, whatever. But damn I love the way they tucked the USB port under the keyboard. Seriously, exposed keyboard usb ports (like sticking out of the back of the keyboard) get fucking destroyed by a single light bump.
Bought this a few weeks ago, here would by my additions to the review, would love if this got upvoted on the merit of the information: I have to say something about the display or "media dock" as they call it, but lets keep that for thw end. Customizing it can be a bit difficult for beginners, as there are many daughterboards on the main PCB, that need to be removed and carefully put back. I gave mine a classic two layered "tape-mod" for dampening the sound. In the future i might also install self made foam between the main PCB and the top plate, as there is some metal reverb when typing (even more obvious without a tape mod. Furthermore lubed all Switches (MX Red) and fitted them with switch films. Also fitted O-Ring on each of the new keycaps. Sound awesome (besides the metal vibration). Now about the media dock. It is simply unnecessary. You can do all the functions it offers with key combos involving the proprietary function key. And i mean every single one. The other functions are all related just related to the display. You can display the infos, Linus talked about... also a clock ("wow"). Also the dial/bezel is very cheaply made. The LED-indicators can be assigned to the key LEDs themselves, so they stay out and glow white if lock is enabled. What really is a game changer is the numpad if left mounted. Not only because of more space for your mouse, but becaue you now have arrow keys, pg up/dn, etc. accessible with both hands. So if numlock is disabled you can perform keycombos like ctrl+pg up/dn or simple key like home/end with both hands. For "power users" that can be a game changer. Love it. So my recommendation is, if you dont mind learning the few fn-key combos there are... just get yourself the Everest core and the numpad as an addition and save yourself a few bucks.
2:44 I always thought switches are embedded in a mechanical keyboard and if you broke one you had to take it to a repair shop or buy a new one again. Hitting the keyboard doesn't look so drastic now that I know this.
Detachable numpad for the go for the laptop would have been a killer feature. I hate proprietary keyboard "program" solutions because almost all are limited or buggy. I think their program is not available for Mac or Linux, not open-source, so you can't add missing feature or complex macros, the profiles aren't saved on the keyboard and there is no QMK driver. Thanks I'll just stick to my keyboars then.
Honestly, the ONE THING that has me interested in this keyboard at all, and the reason I would probably get one, is because there's a lot of longevity in a keyboard that has hotswappable switches. A lot of extra features, and even if expensive, if you are out for one good but expensive keyboard that you want to last for a really long time (quality over quantity) this would be the one. Sadly, I already bought a hotswappable keyboard and all the switches I want for it, so I'm extremely unlikely to need this keyboard. Perhaps like... years down the line? But by then I would already have some new kind of keyboard on the market by the time my board finally dies. Alas! If I knew of this keyboard earlier, I might've bought it.
I have gotten this order about two months ago. It took about a month to get here, and the tracking number they sent me got me nowhere, it still says "on the way" (though it's in my possession). Other then that, the keyboard is AMAZING. I really like the keyboard, just wish it was 5 prong hotswap instead of 3.
As someone who has build many custom keyboards in the last 10 years here is an explanation of the cherry mx switches and how I would rank them: 1)Mx Red - Smoothest out of all and sounds best after lubing. Is perfect for everything including typing and gaming. 2)Speed Silver - Same as mx red but the actuation point is quicker, mostly used for gaming. 3)Mx blue - Buy it if you want to wake up everyone at 3am 4)Silent red - Same as red but the bottom down feels as if you can't fully press it, feels weird. 5)Mx Brown - Please don't buy this, it's awful. Would 100% recommend this keyboard and I would recommend everyone to lube their switches, it makes an enormous difference plus makes it sound better and also feels better. The Cherry Mx switches are considered the worst switches when compared to other custom switches, if you have money to spare I would recommend you getting another switch and a new set of stabilizers with Krytox 205G0 lubricant. **Important** Buy a new set of keycaps (Would recommend double shot PBT keycaps), the keycaps on this keyboard is awful!
"Cherry MX Browns might be a controversial choice these days, ..." ?! Why, how, what? I'm very happy with every keeb I had so far that had browns. Since a few weeks a Keychron K2 :D
The customer service horror stories tells me plenty about this product. Also, if somehow in a universe where they didn't rather their customers were mannequins (or a competitor is listening), I'd like to see a numpad that has wireless and battery powered connectivity once disconnected to sort of double as a PC remote.
I have this keybaord. The buttons are using a single lcd screen that displays all of them then the keys have a little arm that sticks up and hits a button. The dock has what I belive is similar to a screen of a smart watch like you said
130 for base and literally more than double for MAX for a numpad and a dial Why not get 2 base boards and reprogram every single key on one to a macro, you'll also save 10 bucks lmao
@@divyanshusingh363 I don't think it's that bad considering anyone using those keys could make that money back in a day. It also compliments the stream deck quite well. I would imagine Tarran approves and will be keeping that sample board to add to his keyboard macro army
like, the keyboard itself is very good. using one right now, myself. but god does so much of the criticism and issue complaints get met with "please don't be mad, we're just a small company :'(" like, my experience was > order keyboard with cherry reds >later they reach out and ask if I want to change to browns since they don't have an eta one when they'll get reds in and can ship one with browns way sooner >say yes because the thing is hotswap anyway, I like browns, I'll get some reds myself later. >couple weeks to a month pass with no shipping notification >ask them what happened >get told basically "oh oopsie, we'll be shipping yours early next week" >no shipping notification that week >2 weeks after that and still no notification >thing shows up the day after I ask them again >it's got red switches instead of the browns they asked me if I wanted to change to so, they never gave me a shipping notification (dunno if that's on them or whoever they shipped it with) and never actually updated my order, despite them having been the ones to ask me about it in the first place.
@@ikagun I agree with your frustrations but picture being a small company bringing out a pretty unique keyboard product during a pandemic. I might be talking out of my ass but I can't picture them not having supply issues as well. I was part of the kickstarter so I signed up for not knowing when I'd get mine. It was worth the wait imo. If my keyboard does fuck up tho, I do not expect their customer service to be that great lol.
@@ikagun So what I'm hearing is that you should get a Wooting board. Their software is awesome from what I've heard. And if ur buying from a small company at least get something that u can't get anywhere else like Lekker analog switches. That way if u have probs it'll be worth it--nobody else has analog switches AND good software. Also I haven't seen SILICONE wrist rests anywhere except on Wooting. PU leather sucks.
One thing to note: their software isn't available for Linux or Mac, so the keyboard is kinda only compatible with Windows (except for just typing I guess)
I believe the onboard storage can hold _some_ things (not the display icons, though). Assuming you're willing to configure in windows then switch to Linux/Mac.
Guess which Linux daily driver dude found out the hard way? Yes, I did - trust me, you won't enjoy this board in Linux. Their return & refund process works fine, even here in communist Europe.
Optimus Maximus OLED Keyboard, launch in 2007, but i remember read in a magazine or blog circa 2005! What a time. ru-vid.com/video/%D0%B2%D0%B8%D0%B4%D0%B5%D0%BE-qj7GYU-wedo.html
I always just use Logitech gaming keyboards - with the included Macros. I wasn't very happy though when they reduced the number of macro keys from 18 to 6 though. I can get by with 12, but 18 is best.
Ordered one of these keyboards for my son last November. It finally was delivered last week. Took 10 months. Horrible customer service communication. It is a high quality product when it finally showed up, but be prepared for a horrible buying experience. I pray I never need to contact support for an issue.
I can also confirm the customer service part. I messaged them about a magnet that wasn't working on the left side of the keyboard for the wrist rest and they never responded after two emails.
Ordered mine end of October. Delivery promised end of November. Arrived suddenly in May. No shipping or delivery notification. Communication from the company very bad. Otherwise happy with the product.
@@idewmeth4203 The font used in the LTT splash text (at 0:48) is called wingdings. Obviously, it isn't easily readable. But using an online translator, I learned that it spells "this keyboard is very poggers yo".
I pre-ordered the Max Version of this Keyboard back in 2020 and was told all the way up until Feb 2021 that my order would be shipped EVENTUALLY. I sent about 3 separate emails across the time span to see any updates on my keyboard but they kept giving me the same reason, COVID and that eventually it will ship. It was about $320 for my config iirc with Speed Silvers and double shot caps, and I gave up on them after seeing them constantly post on social media about random partners receiving the keyboard while not honoring the initial preorders me and a lot of other people made. Also found it was way cheaper to get a good TKL and a stream deck for less than the price of the one keyboard, I really did want it but at least I saved some money in the end by cancelling it. I would love to see this idea from Corsair with a Stream Deck attachment to the keyboard that replaces the typical numbpad buttons with the chiclet streamdeck screen buttons but still have the option to keep numbers on the pad if you arent using it for a stream deck at the moment.
Same. I really did want this keyboard too. I ordered this keyboard in October 2020 and just finally got the refund for not ever getting my order due to "not having cherry key switches". Great customer service on my end just wish they didn't get so popular that I would have to wait for years. They should have called it Pre-order then I'd have a good expectation
Likewise, I ordered the keyboard back in December 2020 and only got it mid-August. I believe it only eventually turned up because I kept chasing them about it. Apparently they switched to a new system for handling their orders and had a problem where loads of there old orders weren't moved to the new system.
I have one of these and I love it! The story's about customer service are true though. My board came about three months late with virtually no communication. Now from what I can tell they keyboard is incredibly well maid so it seems like these flaws in service are mostly on the front facing end of the company.
I'm still waiting for an affordable mechanical keyboard with ISO layout available in the EU. And a video without the macro king has to be a sponsored video. Edit: Please add ergonomic in front of keyboard
It's easier said than done, but you might wanna look into getting/building a QMK or VIA keyboard, so you can reprogram it anyway you want with any layout you want on the hardware that's as perfect for you as it gets. However, I realize that this is not the right solution for just anyone, but it is the best you can get, so it's worth a consideration!
@@altairquten Yeah, I don't want to build one myself. I hate working on stuff I need. If it's for fun I will willingly spend my time on something, but I just want to type comfortably.
I just picked up (and modded) a Keychron k4. Absolutely love it. Cuts about 2" off the size while retaining my numpad. They make a range of boards in 3-4 other sizes as well. Epomaker/Skyloong also have some solid entry boards.
Me: *Super excited over a solid mechanical keyboard with lots of functionality* Also me: *Expectation dropped from 100 to 1 when hearing about the customer service* Seriously tho most people say it's a good keyboard so if you weren't in a rush, like.. at all, go for it i suppose.
I would define their customer service as "slow but reliable" based on my experience with them. I think the problem for them was that they got overwhelmed with way more board sales than they expected along with issues with Covid.
@@AbominationalFailure Yea that sounds sort of like that. What i've heard is that they're a small company, add covid to the mix and well problems in many ways i suppose.
@@zackzeed I ordered mine around two months ago and it came within two weeks so it might be getting better with deliveries Also I didn't know about the issues people were having with delivery
@@mopilok Well if the product lives up to the comments/reviews then i will also order one this month, i've been looking for a reliable and somewhat nodular keyboard for a while now ^^
It's about what I'd expect for a high end, limited production run product. Now, the vast majority of people will be just as happy with a much cheaper keyboard, but it's in line with similar enthusiast devices.
everything aside from the keyboard and a few small parts/products are other brands they they raise the price on and sell so it's a given, the keyboard itself isn't badly priced for the barebones or core variant compared to other options that the board often gets compared to so you're really paying for the numpad and media dock
@@inforced I think I paid close to 300 usd for mine, maybe closer to 280 but i genuinley cant remember. All around ive had many custom boards and truly this is the one I enjoy the most, just being able to free up mouse space when going from needing the num pad working and swithcing to needing more mouse space gaming was a huge selling point.
I bought this keyboard back in November 2020. I love it so far. My only complaint is that they should add .gif support for the dial, so I can enjoy watching a looped gif of Linus dropping a RTX 3090 while I type a 8-page essay on the benefits of being a marine biologist.
" comes in a box that mountain inteds for you to reuse to reduce waste" That is one of the most pathetic attempts at greenwashing that I have ever seen. I know this is an add, and not a review, but you as a channel are hopefully in the position, where you can at least tell your customers "We'd love to record a commercial for your product, but we have to take this sentence out of the script. That statement is laughable and just makes us loose crediblity"
this keyoard, honestly... far overpriced. I've had two (because they screwed up my order, twice). Also, customer service issues as mentioned by everyone else who has ever purchased one of these... The "dock" dial thing... not good. It's one of those rotary dials that do not register clicks if you rotate it too fast. Also, the quality of the dock accessory felt very poor to me. cheap plastic, very soft polycarbonate type plastic over the display scratches incredibly easily. Frankly, I was happier with a china TKL keyboard from amazon and a matching (separate) numpad.
"dials that do not register clicks if you rotate it too fast" as someone who is working on my own products like keyboards and accessories i can tell you this problem is so easy to fix i cant believe its even problem in modern devices...
He is Canadian, so you can tell he was uncomfortable saying "gun grey" to refer to the color, and so he probably felt he could redeem himself from having compared the keyboard to a mean and scary item like a gun, by pointing out that it isnt weapon friendly.
This seems like a heavily commercialized novelty keyboard project. Lubing, clip mods, and band-aid mods are usually entrusted to customers so the group buy provider can actually ship their kits in volume. If it has to be mass-produced, I prefer razer's way of doing it. If you want novelty features, just get actual novelty keyboards.
I bought and modded this thing with yellow gateron (lubed and filmed) and holee mod the stabs last week. The keyboard is basically the same experience if you have a CTRL low profile board except that you have obviously have more features with the modular components. Overall it's worth purchase if you think these modular components are important to you. Otherwise, there are obviously cheaper options if you're an enthusiast. Also, one thing the video and most reviewers do not mention is that even though it has Razer Chroma combability, the RGB options are extremely limited and barely better than the options that already came with. Even worse, you lose even more features like individual LED for each button if you try to turn on Razer Chroma combability. This mode feels pretty useless right now because it neither gives you the full RGB custom and modes of Razer keyboards or even full features of the basic Everest software that it comes with.
Although this is a really cool concept, more than anything this just really makes me wish that more full-size keyboards had their numpads on the left side
I just received mine last week. Love it so far. Highly suggest spending the extra $30 for the double shot PBT keycaps ... I think the standard ABS caps are really cheap, and frankly probably intentionally so, knowing that as an enthusiast piece, you're probably swapping them out anyway. Holding up the ABS cap to the PBT - there is no comparison. The PBT's are substantially thicker, have a textured matte finish, and just have a much more satisfying feel. Worth $30 and 15 mins to swap them out.
