From everything I’ve read about Desus & Mero, it feels like they’re success was a happy accident that lasted 9 years. But I remember their interview on Bill Simmons podcast, they mentioned that both had different career paths and bumped into each other, realized they had something, pitched it, and it became a great nine year run that I don’t think either of them was expecting.
Yeah, I'm not angry at anyone for this ending. Maintaining that kind of partnership is difficult for anyone, and the fact that, against all odds, I got nine years of it is a fucking blessing. I wish them both the best.
I think you’ve probably got the right of it. I was never angry. Just wicked bummed, bc their podcast & show got me through some difficult times, & when’d listen to them, I’d forget about my own struggles for a bit. I always laughed
It’s crazy this all happened. They went from nothing to something in a very short time span and just went ghost. Those guys helped me through a lot. They was my pandemic buddies along with my girlfriend and my covid cat. I miss those dudes a lot
Same. Making people laugh in tough times is no easy thing. Right now it doesn't seem like they helped each other in breaking up-- that's the danger when you have something going.
i mean if you want to be a drama queen. Guess im too busy and have enough going for me in life i dont make everything a soap opera...but hey do you homie!!!!@@Mruiz0085
I really don't get why people hating on my dog Desus. It's been dang near 20 years, people grow and want to do new things. I'm bummed but why would you pick a side. I've been on great teams before and it's always hard to break up but it's not aimed at hurting anyone. We're all still super close.
@@Spyke46 their mainstream success was a 9 year run but those two were being pursued by MTV back in the 90’. Good thing they didn’t take the deal because Viacom would’ve stolen their IP.
So it’s not victors fault…? Mero also right, the Vice show was better, but they weren’t getting paid well because Vice pockets ain’t as deep as Showtime. You could tell from the jump that it was getting away from the rawness of the podcast and earlier iterations of the show.
That’s why they should have stuck around at Vice and made themselves and Vice a house hold name….the money would have come and they would have been the head honchos over there….. shoulda played the long game
Completely agree! I’ll be honest I watched the first season on showtime but stopped watching towards the end. It just seemed like a different show than the one on vice.
I am one of those people who is heartbroken by their breakup. It was the best thing ever their show & I will miss it & I am going back watching all the old videos on RU-vid. 😢
Yerrrr !!!!! Word. I was a fan ever since they got their show on ViceLand (kinda like Current TV). Didn't know that they had a Bodega Boys podcast. It is What it Is... #Bodega Boyz/Hive 4 Life. Reppin' New York, especially the BX (the Bronx's /"X" cross gesture), since Day 1/One. Deuces, I'm Out.
From what I heard is that Mero's friend Victor (who basically was a behind the scenes 3rd wheel) was trying to keep a grip on Desus and Mero while on Showtime. Showtime being the big network they are , wanted to take the show in a different direction. Victor didnt like that Showtime was trying to distance him from involvement in the show. Desus sided with Showtime and agreed it was time for Victor to let Showtime call the shots to take it to another level ....Mero sided with his close friend Victor. Mero knew Victor did alot behind the scenes to support Desus & Mero/ The Bodega Boys podcasts from Day 1. There wasn't a wrong or right but Desus and Mero both had different ideas on what was the best approach to grow. They agreed to just cut the show, split and pursue their own careers without further drama with Victor/Showtime and the show.
No...... Victor showed up drunk most days and was abusive to the show's staff. Causing Showtime to tell the duo "it's him or the show". Mero chose Victor...... THAT was the problem.
I'm not saying this is the case, but the whole situation remind me of that Nas line: "A thug changes, and love changes, and best friends become strangers"
Number one thing people need to realize that the truth in New York, especially coming from the projects, business and family come before friendship. They had a great run now these two men are going on to continue their own individual journeys. Kudos to them both 👏🏽
I hope mero keeps making moves man. As much as i liked desus and him together i always looked forward to meros commentary he was the funnier of the two. Desus seemed more media trained.
@@WORSTDAYOFYOURLIFE true also all his personas are hilarious officer proscuitto, the fiends “my guts hurt” #Hilarious also his akas were more hilarious
Show was so much better on VICE not gonna lie because it was raw and so damn funny.... never missed an episode! The Showtime show was a letdown TBH and I really couldn't watch it anymore. So sad D&M broke up :-(
Basically they got big in Vice because Vice let them go crazy. Then they sold out to showtime for more money and expected nothing to change or to be directed. Desus was cool with it because we all know Hollywood Desus wasn’t a character but who he really was cause of the money. Mero just wanted to do the show like the Vice days.
Exactly.. The kinda fell off after Vice..They had a great run and the show was quality but a lot of people didnt follow them after vice. The vibe wasnt the same either.
Things just ran their course. Dunno why that’s so hard to understand. Y’all so desperate for there to be some wild drama…time is undefeated. Takes everyone and everything out. I hope both of them prosper post-Bodega Boys.
I misss seeing Mero. I feel that the social media chatter made this messy. Someone on their team spoke and speculations ran rampit. Glad they’ve moved on.
I miss them together a lot. I really like Hollywood Desus, but I feel like Mero is more old school authentic. I could be wrong. It’s just my impression, & I’m not knocking Desus at all. I just connect better w/ Mero. Edit: It’s def really cool to see Mero doing well, & having these opportunities. I’m happy for him.
Check and prove that comedy duos throughout history don't last. As the show grew in popularity, it was eventually going to get so big that both guys had to eventually split to create their own lanes of creativity. Support them both.
Im def not taking a side. Thats childish. But one standout to me was the fact that Mero a Dominican spoke with a better jamaican accent than Desus a Jamaican Lol.
Midway the first season on Showtime, I figured it wasn't going to last too long. The amount of sucio and honesty to Black and Latin NY Culture wasn't going to fly once the checks cleared. The uptight suits dressed as "make me money" white guys were going to try and box it in. The second they started saying things like "...but the Showtime LEGAL department... -wink wink-", I felt it was the stark truth as a thinly veiled joke.
I miss these guys frfr. Mero and desus need to go back to the Bronx go get a blunt and some.beer and talk this shit out. If yall gotta take a fade fuck it.
I respect that. Mero's too busy making all sorts of excuses for why they disbanded. At least Desus isn't coming up with excuses and trying to make Victor look good the way that Mero's been doing.
Damn it's crazy I feel like Mero is the bodega boy through n through & Desus was the one dyin to go Hollywood, abandoned the pod, caused the split etc.
@@thadima1996 Because he's got 4 kids. If you want your kids to have a big yard and whatnot, for way less money than NY charges, you kind of have to leave the Bronx.
thats crazy yall just try to turn on mfs like that. every duo or group break up yall always wanna pick a side as if yall didn't love when they were together before
This makes a lot of sense…who wants to play the role of the B mic that’s supposed to be less funny than the A mic. It’s like the show became an intentional Batman and Robin and this dude is established enough as a media figure to just be himself now. He doesn’t have to try to be less funny than anyone else for ratings
Use to watch these guys every time they came on Vice. Once they went to Showtime the show got stupid and I stopped watching. Showtime fucked that show up.. it was perfect on Vice. So sad! These two together on Vice were hilarious.
I mean Mero is right. he can sell out, make bank, and be an international super star……Idk what happened between them but I wish them both well it was a good run. Thanks kid
Damn! This morning I thought to myself have I missed the new season of D&M ? I came to check that and I find out I must pay more attention to gossip news! I am so much behind!! 🤦🏻♀️
