I Could Not Agree With You More! The Killers Nailed It With This Cover Of Icehouse's cover if Electric Blue!! Please Record More Cover Songs From Icehouse!! Awesome Job Guys!! Love It!!!
So many incredible covers... Forgotten Years by Midnight Oil Don't Change by INXS Betty Davis Eyes Whole of the Moon Electric Blue Can't Help Falling in Love Romeo & Juliet Girls Wanna Have Fun Don't Dream It's Over You Were Always on My Mind This Charming Man Just to name a few...
I have just figured out why I love this guy so much - I can hear every word he sings. He has clarity. Few singers can do it. Most singers mumble and slur. Not this man. He is at the top.
Interesting cuz to my ears it sounds over enunciated. I like the stylistic way vocalists can sing a line that can sound like more than one phrase. Kinda otherworldly.
You need the vocals to sit in front of the mix, they generally should take centre stage. Particularly if you're adding sfx such as reverb and distortion.
It's not just the voice, he's singing an old rock song and keeping somewhat true to the original. It isn't just that people don't sing clear, but noticed a lot of songs these days have far to much base to them that drown out the vocals. If you listen to 90s-80s and before in Rock, you'll notice the lyrics are very clear... The singers don't need base and other instrumental to drown out either bad or lazy singing, the instrumental compliments the vocals, lol. This guy has a good voice, so was a bit surprised hearing a more modern band do this song some justice, so many remakes of songs these days are just meh....
This guy - Brandon Flowers, Iva Davies who wrote this, Winehouse, Lennox, Fitzgerald, they enunciate vocals clearly. I love slide guitar replacing saxophone here. And Brandon, it's vision OF you.
@@rw8733 There's nothing greater than an awesome artist showing love and respect for those who influenced them. The humility that is required to re-present your influencers creations with such care is astounding.
Brandon Flowers reckoned The Vines opened up the industry to a lot of indie bands including The Killers. take his words for what they are but I had no idea they were that influential outside of Aus at the time.
One of the prettiest songs ever written. The original song was performed in such a distinctive style, including the incredible voice of the original singer, that I never would have thought anyone could have come close to the Icehouse performance. This singer knocked the cover off. Terrific job gang.
Icehouse was a band that should have been a worldwide huge deal. Iva Davies is an excellent song writer and multi-instrumentalist, I met him a couple of times and such a nice bloke. This is great cover. I'm sure Brandon knows Icehouse were originally called 'Flowers'.
@@MaleOrderBride Australian bands struggle when it comes to international touring. It‘s getting much better, but in the 1980s, overseas touring for a band was very expensive and time consuming.
@@VoidManufacturing No 1 in Australia, but number 7 in the US and number 53 in the UK. That means it 'was as big of a hit as it could have been' in Australia only. Which was my original point. Now hurry up and call me an asshat.
No one ever did a good cover of this song. So, here comes Brandon with his magnificent voice and did it FLAWLESSLY. I'm in love with this cover as much I'm love with the original one.
From one GenX to another, I agree. Brandon Flowers is an older millennial raised with GenX roots. Have you heard their cover of Joy Division’s Shadowplay?
I just died. I adored this song when it came out (and the B side is awesome also). Somebody pick me up the floor and fix my jaw. This is pure gold, the way he enunciates, the way he says "I just freeze!", gives me the chills, I literally just freeze lol, this is so so good. Brandon, dude, a cover album please!
I can’t tell you how happy this makes me. I was 6 when the original came out and adored it, and still love Icehouse to this day. They are one of the most underrated Australian bands. Your cover is perfect and I hope it will introduce Icehouse to many people who wouldn’t otherwise have found them. Thank you ♥️
I am.a Chilean fan of The killers...and this is a great cover ...Icehouse...one of my favourite bands ...Since I heard Crazy on the radio a sumar day on January 1988...Thanks The Killers for this great song....I love both bands! Greetings from Antofagasta..Chile!
I respect the killers but was never big into them but DAMN they aced this cover, did not expect anyone to be as good as icehouse at this song but the killers can sit alongside icehouse on this one. Needs to be released as a single for sure.
Not taking anything away from The Killers, but I thought the same when it came to Weezer covering a-ha's Take On Me. I'd love to see both bands just do an album of nothing but 80s covers and see how they go.
I'd be honored if some fans of acoustic 80s covers would take a listen to my piano & vocal interpretations of EYE OF THE TIGER by Survivor, IS THIS LOVE by Whitesnake, and PURPLE RAIN by Prince on my YT channel. Live acoustic with no autotune. Peace and stay safe in the '020s.
Brandon has a huge voice which doesn’t always strike you on first listen as his delivery is not over the top but try to sing any of his songs and you quickly realize there’s a certain depth and resonance, like a kind of natural reverb. Brilliant band, brilliant cover of a stone cold classic song!
I like Icehouse and find this cover bizarre. Not the performance but...why cover Icehouse? Not the most popular band in the world. It seems like a random choice.
About 8-10 yrs ago the killers had no idea how there album should look like. There record company gave them a few samples of other recording artist, icehouse was one.
If a boy had a chance A chance with someone like you Are you gonna break his heart? Let him cry for the moon? Are you hiding somewhere behind those eyes? I just freeze Every time you see through me And it's all over you Electric blue On my knees Help me, baby Tell me, what can I do? Electric blue Oh, I had a dream For a moment I believed it was true Oh, I'd have given anything Just to be there with you Are you hiding Somewhere behind those eyes? I just freeze Every time you see through me And it's all over you Electric blue In too deep Standing here waiting As I'm breaking into Electric blue I can see Can see that it may be just a vision for you Electric blue On my knees Help me, baby Tell me what can I do? Electric blue
It's 11/10 for me. I commend them for keeping it as it was, not overdoing it and trying to palm it off as their own. The audio techs nailed the mix on it too. Kudos to them I say, for covering an iconic Australian song, and doing it justice while bringing it to a new generation who are, by and large, devoid of actual music talent in this day and age.
dougbj40 I was a 12 year old English kid in school in Sydney in 1987 and this song takes me right back there . Icehouse where a great band , cracking cover this though .
Best act to play at the AFL Grand Final. Covered Midnight Oil's 'Forgotten Years" which went down great. Ended with Richmond's fullforward on stage. Love this band
Oil's "Forgotten Years" is a Classic .... Brandon took a few verses to get into the vibe but when he did.... Boy.... did he nail it!!! Total respect to cover an Aussie anthem in front of 100k...
@René Peraza -For older folks like us who grew up during the 80’s and can appreciate the classics ,I would agree but for the newer generation and keeping up with times ,It would be a better option to have This particular version presented in a Movie fit for the soundtrack .In Some cases,If one really wanted to get more information on the original version of the song after one heard the song ,Then research would be done. I was merely referring to current times and the artist Giving his vocal rendition on this particular classic .
The singer really captured the sentiment (of that yearning we all feel when falling in love and seeing that someone and are breath just stops)in the original recording. I do miss the saxophone solo though. Love the background vocals on this cover too. A lot of people dont know this but on the original John Oates(of course from the legendary Hall & Oates) did the background vocals .
Recently announced that Ice House & The Killers will be performing at the Adelaide 500 Supercars race this December. It will be interesting if the bands co-join for this song.
I keep listening to this. Brandon's vocals are beyond amazing. I think this is the best cover I've ever heard in my life. A whole album of this should be made, for the good of mankind.
Most underrated 80's song that just happens to be my favorite of all-time. I remember when Napster came out and this was the first song I downloaded lol. I had no idea The Killers even covered it. Absolutely excellent!!
His voice has just gotten better and better. He’s really grown into it. He’s not forcing anything anymore (some of Battle Born’s more “epic” vocalizations come to mind). It’s effortless, silky smooth, and beautiful. It’s hard to imagine this is the same guy who sang Mr. Brightside (not that it was bad, just so vastly different). This is an incredible cover.
I wanted to hear this song but didn't want to feel old, and then I found this! Wow I can't stop listening to this! This version is actually better, the lead singers voice is so clear
Outside of it being an outstanding version, the lighting, subdued background vocals and melancholy feel really captured the mood of much of the world at that time. Fantastic version 💪🔥💪
This a solid cover of the song. I hope this gets people check out the original and other songs by Icehouse. (Crazy, My obsession, touch the fire , I don't believe anymore, to name a few.)
Love Icehouse. One of the greatest Aussie bands ever. "Don't Believe Anymore" is my favourite. Check out their concert from 1984 in Germany with Joe Camilleri on Sax & Guy Pratt on Bass.
