They were included on the original master track. The version of the song that made it onto the album was actually just the reference mix; meaning that it wasn't polished up vocally or instrumentally. As such, the breaths weren't muted because this version was only meant to be a reference for a more polished mix of the song where the breaths and instruments would have been given a more polished sound. Thankfully, the band preferred this version out of several other mixes that were made and it ended up on the album instead.

@@eyelesscrown7346 Yep. in some of the rare instances where bands like the original "demo" or "rough cut," you can sometimes hear conversations, booth noise (vocals) and so on. These master tracks are where the real heart and soul comes into play, even if it exposes how much work is left to the engineers and producers (still, in this instance, it worked out perfectly).

late reply but these aren't created. they are original recordings called master tracks. there are ways to remove backing audio, but not as good as this.

that depends on if the studio ever released their master tracks. It's possible they just never released them, especially for older songs. @@adsheff if the artist releases stems e.g. for a remix competition, if someone who remixed it leaks the stems, if people datamine games like rock band or guitar. you can replicate acapellas w/ software like demucs or izotope to a pretty pragmatic extent since instrumentals cover up the imperfections from software extraction
