For anyone wondering, Brandon Flowers actually said in an interview that this song is about the process of trying to write a song! "Breaking my back just to know your name" is him trying to write a title or lyrics to a song, "you had a boyfriend who looked like a girlfriend that I had" is him saying that even after finishing writing a song it's frustrating for someone to say they heard another song that sounds similar.
