Julie Andrews? Lea Salonga? FREAKING MARILYN HORNE?! You have 3 of the greatest voices to EXIST in the past 50 years on one recording? My brain feels like it's going to explode.

The Peabo and Lea Duo is simply just magical, their voices match together so well.

Oh my goodness, that was PURE UNADULTERATED BLISS.. I had tears in my eyes when Julie/Anna had her last audience with 'The King'.. What a magnificent cast .. WOW..

Julie Andrews is the legendary Queen of Broadway. Ben Kingsley is the Oscar Winner for Gandhi while Julie is the Oscar Winner for Mary Poppins. Marilyn Horne is great dame of Opera. These are legends. Lea recorded this when she was a young, aspiring stage musical actress. Now Lea Salonga is a legend on her own right with Laurence Olivier and Tony Awards on her pocket and two Disney Princess roles to boast.

Either a film or a stage version with Julie Andrews and Lea Salonga together would have been a masterpiece! 😍

If, if, if....If Julie had been ten years older in the fifties when the show opened, it would have been HERS. There'd have been no Gertrude Lawrence, no Deborah Kerr. Julie was BORN to play Anna in this musical, and I just thank the Theater Gods that THIS project fell into place when it did, while she was still gloriously full-throated, and could have this GREAT cast around her. Julie is perfect! She was too young when The King & I was filmed! She would have been IT! Sad over her losing her beautiful voice but happy that we have all her amazing vocals to listen to! Thank you for uploading!

Look at her eyes at 1:36 😍..this character is such a perfect fit for Julie.. she herself tends to whistle when she is nervous 2:40...my feet just immediately start tapping when I hear her singing "Getting to know you" also look at how happy she is and enjoying it so much 7:49 - 8:22 and I just melt when she starts singing "When I think of Tom" 21:36 oh that Voice...the whole recording especially Julie's part is so perfect that I was actually playing her recorded version while watching the movie and it was in perfect sync...do I need to say anything about "Shall we Dance"....how involved she is in the recording that she gets teary at the end...it must be heaven to be in the studio with Julie and a 96 piece orchestra...i have to agree with Hammerstein's grandson that "R&H made their musicals 10 years too early for the perfect woman"🙌

This video is a gem. Thank you for posting it! The world's greatest voices in one production! But in my personal opinion there is no one like Ms. Andrews. She is a beautiful woman, inside and out! I feel so blessed that the stars aligned themselves in such a way that I should be born at a time when I could get to hear her sing. Julie was born to play Anna.If only they had ended “Star” with segments from “The King and I”,instead of “Lady In The Dark”.

Dame Julie could have been a perfect Anna in the film.She was young when the film was made in 1956 so she couldnt be her at the time. But she was the perfect choise .

WOW...the best of the best! Thanks so much for having watched this video--a true gem. Julie Andrews and Lea Salonga have the perfect voices for the important characters, first of course is Anna. Lea's superb singing voice for Tuptin was perfectly awesome and the duet w/ Peabo was a magical love song.

Julie Andrews diction has to be the very best in the history of musicals. A great star. What a tragedy for her and the world her voice was ruined by botched vocal chord surgery. But we have her films and recordings to remember her truly great talent.

Oh, the old and glorious Hollywood that filled with talents instead of garbage of these days.

It is terrible that this entire classic is banned here in Thailand. Rather than viewing this as an historical fiction that takes certain artistic liberties with characters from the past, they've focus on how the monarchy was portrayed unfavorably and was perceived in a poor light. This recording of the 1951 Broadway play based on the 1956 film adaptation is brilliant. With the exception of Mr. Bryson, who is an incredible talent in his own right, I feel that a person of Asian ethnicity would have been more appropriate and lent greater authenticity to this effort. Despite my bias, he has done quite nicely.

Julie sang the songs beautifully! But I can't imagine anyone else in the film version other than Deborah Kerr!!
