For the month of Halloween, I wanted to do a short video inspired by the writings of Robert W. Chambers. Loosely based on The King in Yellow/The Mask story. There is a lot of mystery surrounding the character of The Yellow king. I was also influenced by H.P. Lovecraft's writings and The old Gods. This is my interpretation of the King in Yellow. Happy Halloween!

I love that illustration of the Pallid Mask, he looks so emotionless and uncanny, even though nome of the character's faces are animated, it feels especially unnerving how his mouth doesn't move when he talks.

This episode was one of my favorites to work on. Trying to setup the mood and the design for Carcosa was a fun exploration.

The Yellow King has really nothing to do with Lovecraft’s eldritch abominations, he’s more like a personification of the decadent lifestyle that was prevalent during the author, Robert W. Chambers’s time. A time when religion, the arts, search for truth meant absolutely nothing, only pleasure and sensualities were seen as the end all and be all of our life as human beings. He can also be seen as a false creator god, a demiurge almost that hinders humanity from reaching the true God’s light. He’s the King in Yellow in tattered robes ruling his hollow heaven of Carcosa.

Yes, I agree with you. Overtime The Yellow King got combined with Hastur, an eldritch god. Which has nothing to do with Chambers's book. That in itself is an interesting rabbit hole. Thanks for the comment.

Nice animation, but the story is boring and desilusionating. But well, is not the trama of this book that is interesting, but the Cosmic King in yellow... The yellow sign.... The cosmic terror.
