I love Tyrone Davis to death. I have been listening to Tyrone since I was about 10-yrs old.... I will never forget that voice of his...... Tyrone's music 🎵🎶🎶 played a very vital point in my life growing up as a young kid. His songs has a lot to do with my growing up as a young teenager. 💯 I have purchased a lot of his music down through the years. During my (" MILITARY") days especially. The day came to me when I found out he had passed on from this world 🌎. It was a hard stiff pain in my heart. ❤️💜... It bought tears in my heart. One would have thought I lost a close family member. It really threw me a curve ball..🥲 I just couldn't believe he was gone.... I still get water 💦 in my eyes from time to time when I hear one of his songs..♥️💦🥲. You would think I was his cousin or something. May the Grace of ("GOD") surround him... RIP My dear brother Tyrone..🙏✝️♥️💦
My mother use to play his songs over and over on our old record player. Her favorite was the turning point. She played that song so much the record starting skipping. Lol😂😂 we was happy cause we was tired listening to that song.
Thanks for sharing this story with us. Although being born in Mississippi, Mr. Tyrone Davis🎤🥀 became one of Windy City's finest musical artists. Loved how you incorporated photos of other Chicago blues, soul/rnb, and jazz greats. 💞 🎶🎼🎵
That was the Man since “Can I Change My Mind” in 1968!! There was no other as far as record buying women until Al Green came along. he represented Chicago soul straight through til disco came along in 1977-78.
This is the greatest soul singer in the world , the Dells , Chi Lights nor Sam Cook even Otis Redding could not out song this man ok Johnny Taylor came close my life after 50 years is shaped by songs same as Rev Ike teaching and may God bless this channel for remembering great black people🎉❤🎉❤
Omg u just took me back to my childhood with my transistor radio listening to If I could Turn back the Hand of time . I also remember some of his other hits later on . Thanks and may he RIP. Great singer .
Tyrone got to the point he didn't need a hit all he had to do was show up in your town and the people would come to the show. I saw him Johnny Taylor and Bobby Womack what a show all were very good but JT was the show stopper.
One of the greatest "Soul" baritones of all time! I frequently sing a least 3 ("In The Mood", "Can I Change My Mind?" and "Let's Be Closer Together") of his songs. Great talent! @@@*** Sembene, in Chicago ***@@@
I have almost all of his music. My two favorite albums of his is "I Can't Go On This Way" release in 1978, "In The Mood With Tyrone Davis" released in 1979 which I have on CDs. I met him inside of a record store in 1999. I have all of his Columbia LPs releases on CDs. And I have all of his Malaco CD releases. "Get On Up (Disco)" is my all time favorite song of his.
Here in Greenville Ms, i stayed down the street from the house he lived in.. he decided to move after working small jobs etc. King of Southern soul.. people love him here in Greenville still
I love him so much. Him nd his music reminds me of my Pops. His music is in my soul. My Pops must've passed it on to me. You're in Greenville? My Pops use to always talk about Nelson St. R u familiar with that area?
@@jengriffin152 I’m from Greenville, and yes, Nelson St. was the place to be for black folks. Nelson St. is so different today. I’m only 44, but I’ve heard stories of how it use to be. They had nice clubs that up and coming artists came to; and businesses like stores, bakeries, etc. Now it consists of old houses, a few clubs, like three churches, and several businesses.
I was born and raised down south. Tyrone music can still make the entire cookout get up and rock. By the way ROCK ME is as sexy as it gets. RIP Tyrone. So many great memories!!!
My Mother, May She Rest In Peace loved Tyrone Davis...I new all of his songs as a teenager he was played heavily in my household and in alot of Black Households Back then...Good Ole Memories. Rest In Peace Mr. Tyrone Davis

This is going to have to be a twenty-year anniversary of his death in 2005 and his legacy is still going strong and he will never be forgotten by his family and his band and his fans will forever remember Tyrone Davis as a legend and his music will always be remembered as a tribute to Tyrone Davis in his memory of Tyrone Davis!
True story... back in the day a friend of mine had invited me to a Club and we were sitting at the bar. There was a man, that walked up to us while sitting and had a brief conversation with us... asking us how we were doing and if we are enjoying ourselves... After the man, left my friend looked over to me and said... you know who that is right? I, responded No... he, said that's Tyrone Davis. I, was so surprised because he was so approachable and down to earth.
I hope all these R&B musicians, like Tyrone David, Sam Cooke, David Ruffin, Otis clay, have all been added to Mississippi Blues or Mississippi Music Museum.
Wow!! I had no idea that Tyrone Davis had so many hits! My parents loved "Change Your Mind and In The Mood." I personally love slow dancing to, "In The Mood" wirh my guy back in the 90's! Thanks for posting and sharing!! ❤🎶❤️
Hi there! 95 Til Infinity is a great opening song you pick! Tryone Davis music was played in our home every weekend. My favorite song he made is Can I change your mind. Thanks again for all you do❤
WBTV whenever you have time would you research this artist, Lowell his sound of music 🎶 is smooth one song that he made is called Mellow Mellow right on! Thanks again Lowrell
@@blacksantaria3642 Wow. That's the first time I've heard of that. When I usually read anything on Facts of Life it's usually stated that Jean is Tyrone's sister. Even when Jean was interviewed for in the Complete Kayvette Recordings Cd she stated she was Tyrone's sister.
If I'm not mistaken, 75% of the city's black population original birthplace is MISS. That being said, there is no need for CHI claiming the late great soul man due to the fact that he claimed the City himself.
I use to shot craps with Tyrone back in the day. At this late night hole in the wall called Almas touch of class on 81st Normal,Chi town! He would win most of the time case he would carry a briefcase full of money!!!! RIP Ty.
How could Tyrone Davis be called " The king Of Chicago Soul " with so many greater artists with far more hits and impact than Tyrone Davis ? Three far greater artists come to mind immediately, Curtis Mayfield (with or without the Impressions ), R Kelly, and Donny Hathaway. There were others with far more hits like Jerry Butler and of course Lou Rawls, but to add further proof I will name the person considered by many to be the " The Greatest Artist of All Time no matter the genre " Sam Cooke!
Honestly, I’ve never heard of him. I worked up one of his songs and saw a name that I wash my hair with they provided back up. The man is Eugene Records. He’s a founding member of the Chi Lites, the Chi Lites have one original members still alive. I’m in the Marshall Thompson years ago Mr. Thompson was arrested for extortion, and had to serve. I think a year to two years in prison. Be illegally sold badges and bribed cops and charged $2500.00 for them and this allowed them to carry guns. Many were convicted felons.
I recall my mom goin to concerts with him & Otis Clay headlining. These were classified as "Blues" concerts. I also recall hearing his music when I was little growing into my teens. My mom LOVED the Blues. BB King was her favorite artist, but, I believe she just loved the sound, being from Raymond, Mississippi
I PLAYED FIRST TRUMPET WITH TYRONE DAVIS FOR 3 LONG YEARS AND IT WAS THE WORST TIME IN MY LIFE . MY VERY FIRST DAY WE RODE FROM CHICAGO 1449 SOUTH MICHIGAN AVENUE BRUNSWICK RECORDING STUDIO TO TEXAS. IT RAINED ALL THE WAY THERE. AT THAT TIME MR. DAVIS HAD A YELLOW PANAL TRUCK FOR 8 PEOPLE TO RIDE IN. WHEN WE GOT TO TEXAS I WAS WORN OUT FROM THE RIDE. WE PARKED IN THE HOLIDAY INN PARKING LOT SO I THOUGHT WE ALL WOULD GET OUT AND GO WITH MR.DAVIS TO GET OUR ROOMS AND BOY WAS I WRONG. L V JOHNSON TOLD ME TO GO BACK TO THE VAN CAUSE IT WAS NOT TIME FOR US TO GET ROOMS, SO I GOT BACK INTO THE VAN. HERE COMES TYRONE DAVIS SCREAMING AT ME CALLING ME ALL KINDS OF MF TELLING ME NOT TO EVER COME INTO THE MF MOTEL WHEN HE WAS GETTING HIS ROOM. THE BAND MEMBERS WERE QUITE AS A MOUSE, YOU COULD HEAR A PIN DROP. I THOUGHT TO MYSELF WHAT HAVE I GOTTEN MYSELF INTO? I STAYED FOR 3 YEARS OF ABUSE BECAUSE I HAD GOTTEN OUT OF THE ARMY HALFWAY BAD AND COULDN'T GET A JOB. AFTER ABOUT 3 YEARS OF NOT MAKING MORE THEN $50 A NIGHT AND MAKING NO MONEY I QUIT AFTER THE BAND REFUSED TO STAND UP LIKE MEN AND DEMAND MORE MONEY AND BETTER WORKING CONDITIONS. I QUIT IN KNOXVILLE TENNESSEE ON THE SECOND SHOW AND DIDN'T LOOK BACK. I WOULD FIND OUT LATER THAT MY PROTEST MADE IT BETTER FOR THE NEXT BAND.
Arrogance was one of his problems. He also was outright mean. James Brown, TYRONE DAVIS and Johnny Taylor are all 3 born under the same sign and all 3 were Tyrants. Johnny Taylor and James Brown would pull guns on the Band. Fred Westley of James Brown band and Bobby BIRD had warned me that James Brown didn't know how to treat people right. One singer I really liked was AL GREEN, he was a really great guy. I PLAYED with him as one of the horn players. People think cause these people are out there singing they are good people and a lot of the time that's not true.
@@blacksantaria3642 WOW! I have also heard some horror stories about Tyrone Davis. Another bad temper nasty attitude artist was Joe Simon big time off da rail.
I can tell you all sweet good stories about Mr TYRONE...But most wouldn't believe them...I will say this.,.....on the riad He was the man that dated someone one in my family !!
