I loved when I was young on Saturday Nights hearing Johnny Olson announce "From Miami Beach Its The Jackie Gleason Show" just great times growing up with shows like thid. God Bless Jackie Gleason I dont think he ever knew just how loved he was.
I was an infant when my parents watched The Honeymooners. But in the 1980's my late husband and I would stay up late on weeknights to laugh together over the reruns. I remember my sister and I running home from playing with our friends in the evening to watch The Jackie Gleason Show. Loved the comedy and background music, The Bartender and Frank Fontaine's cozy songs, the new Honeymooners bits, especially when the Kramdens and Nortons won a "Flaky Wakies" jingle contest and got to travel to Europe. I miss those times! Jackie Gleason was an American "national treasure". He made millions of people laugh.
The GOAT! Not said lightly. We as little kids were sat in front of the old black and white for this show. Glad to have had the privilege. Love all it encompassed including the Miami Beach audience!
Very nice. I don't think there is anyone else out there who has Jackie Gleason's life so much a part of theirs as me, I was born in Bushwick, Brooklyn in the 1950's when The Honeymooners was on TV., and lived in an apartment building that once stood next to PS 73 where Jackie Gleason went to school. I also was born a John Gleason and was called Jackie all my life, although I added a different first name to my original name in the 1970's. I am still called Jackie by some members of my family which I do not like, preferring Jack instead. My family attended shows at the Halsey Theater which was also mentioned in the show and where Mr. Gleason performed. So, as another Jackie Gleason, I am forever connected to the famous one.
My Dad absolutely LOVED this man . even more than DEan martin, Jackie Gleason was an icon in our home, growing up. Dad loved his music--------his TV shows-----and he loved the man. having grown up with him I too, have come to love The Great One. ---------RIP. -------------------------MJL, 76 y/o
Excellent! Jackie Gleason is my all-time favorite, the ultimate feel-good performer. This video is soothing, and it's very much as enjoyable as comfort food. And away we go!
Jackie Gleason was the “fun” Uncle every kid wished they had. The kind who’d tell tall tales of his youth, take you to ball games and (secretly) teach you how to play cards and shoot pool
Scott what made him so great was he did it off the cuff without rehearsing too much it came up more natural and that's why it'll stand the test of time
He (Jackie) was my favourite at age 5 years old in 1970, and I really enjoyed Ralph and Alice, Norton, Trixie in The Honeymooners. (Scenes at a Brooklynn, NY Apts. I think?)
In case anyone doesn't know, that beautiful song which accompanies the video featuring Jackie Gleason is called "You're My Greatest Love" (Theme from "The Honeymooners"). It was made by Jackie Gleason's vocal orchestra along with the voice of Artie Malvin. It was recorded in New York City, on December 10, 1955 and released through Capitol records. 🙂
Gleason and Dean Martin, each successful on TV for years, got their series exactly the way they wanted them. Martin even made sure his contract required him to work (i.e., rehearse) as little as possible.
Dean Martin was a smart businessman too! He had extensive real estate holdings all over California and Nevada and at one time was the largest single shareholder of RCA stock
Thanks for this. I am old enough to remember his show and the opening footage of a helicopter ( I guess ) coming in over the water up to white buildings on the beach. At that time I lived in Panama City and found it very thrilling to see other beaches. Enjoyed TY!
Very very good , this video us into the relaxing state of the 1950’s & 1960’s … music choice was perfect ..I’m still in layback hammock mode after listening. We got the Honeymooners down in Australia as well, he was a charmer.
Geez, I got such an eerie feeling listening and watching this video. When I was small I saw the Jackie Gleason Show with my parents but I remember the theme being faster and no ooos just a symphony playing. Add the old video footage and I thought I was in the twilight zone. Good video though I liked it.
There's certainly has a lot of his albums scattered across RU-vid. You can find some of them on this channel: www.youtube.com/@gmoralesmx2/search?query=%22jackie%20gleason%22
we lived in miami beach in 1950-1955. My father was a cook at night and lifeguard during the day. He knew a lot of people. My mother worked the counter for Wolfie Cohen on Collins. I recall how my dad detested Gleason as a complete drunken bigshot jerk who ran Miami Beach. He could not stand him. Said the same about Sinatra although he loved his music.
Its rarely mentioned that Gleason bought up an enormous amount of Miami real-estate back in the 50's when it was next to worthless and he died with a Florida real-estate portfolio worth close to 400 million dollars. He also owned the 100 acre community he lived in, HE WAS LOADED ALICE😂😅😊❤
Unique personality in U.S. entertainment history, probably wouldn't be considered pc today, sadly, i.e., the smoking, drinking, carousing, etc., all part of his hugely popular appeal through the 60's. I once read a bio of The Great One wherein its author described the comedian as having outlived his era. This happens to all comedians eventually, I believe. Certain ones had the talent & charisma to remain popular until they could perform no more but a dropping-off, in ratings, personal appearances, movie role offerings, or otherwise, eventually can be detected. Gleason was a giant, though, no pun intended. Difficult to categorize in a way; multi-talented, to be sure, but his greatest success was in television, a natural for such a visual medium. He had certain professional flaws, though, I'd say. As much as I love the guy, I've come to classify Gleason as a somewhat lazy comedian, going through periods when he didn't seem to be too desirous to work. His career had gaps & was spotty at times. Some of this had to do, no doubt, with ambition, ego, & claims to being the highest-paid entertainer in the country, the latter, perhaps, one of his less endearing qualities. His comic image of being a brassy, boozy braggart, however, was immensely popular with the American public, so he had to keep that up. Males, in particular, enjoyed this persona, no doubt out of envy. His 2 famous, signature catchphrases were known by all, something comedians no longer employ. Jackie's rotund physique he played for laughs, something the public enjoyed as well. So---where does Gleason stand in the pantheon of U.S. comedians? As a sketch comic, he clearly was one of the greatest, something at which he excelled. He wisely recognized that monologues weren't his strong suit, avoiding or downplaying them whenever possible. Despite his brilliance, Gleason portrayed only a few regular character-types, unlike Skelton, who had close to a dozen, so this is rather puzzling, in terms of Gleason's vaunted versatility. His comic persona was unique to himself, a "regular joe" who nevertheless revelled in his wealth & fame---& didn't mind bragging about it, which, again, was an appealing aspect of the man's popularity & longevity.
The Fillmore was a pair of theaters in San Francisco and NYC that all the top rock acts of the 60’s played. It closed down in 1971 but was reopened in the 90’s as part of a group of small capacity theaters in different parts of the country, the Fillmore organization bought the Jackie Gleason theater and is in the process of renovating it

Sad commentary on the so called great one…. He for sure isn’t in Heaven……. He spent his life indulging in solid gold golf clubs, drinking and gambling… Could have done something good for others but didn’t, left nothing to charity….sad😢
