This is Kesha's moving and defiant song, ‘Praying’. She wrote it at one of the most difficult moments in her life and career.
The singer-songwriter Kesha had brought a series of lawsuits against her manager, Dr. Luke, from 2014, for gender-based hate crimes, sexual harassment and employment discrimination. Kesha released Praying in 2017, and it is thought to address Dr. Luke directly. It became an anthem of the TimesUp movement in 2018 after her performance of the song at the GRAMMY awards that year. Particularly for people going through similar experiences, the song was uplifting, inspiring, and signified solidarity and support.
This arrangement was written specially for Finding Harmony by the British composer Rebecca Dale (www.rebeccadale.com). You can find the sheet music from our partners at Hal Leonard (www.halleonard.com/product/30....

So as an a capella fan, I love the Pentatonix version, but this version is actually my favourite...it feels a bit more somber and intimate, and I love it.

And still the balance not spot on. Again 1st tenor is somtimes too strong and 1st counter tenor is overpowered. And as a symfonic musician I would have prefered a deeper bass sound and brighter 1st counter tenor. But that is pure taste and no criticism.

@@rverkamman Yes, I agree. I miss the gorgeous deeper bass voice of Stephen Connelly and the exquisite bright yet warm, silver voice of David Hurley. The incomparable line-up of David Hurley, Robin Tyson, Paul Phoenix, Phillip Lawson, Chris Gabbitas and Stephen Connelly produced extraordinary balance, blend, tone and truly wonderful performances.

I found the background or supporting vocals to be damned near perfect. The melody parts,... well, they were a little lacking for me. They felt too safe.

I cried when i first heard this song it is so beautifully performed by these young fellers. They rightfully deserve their reputation as, arguably, Britains finest male voice choir. There are however, moments within the lyrics where I do feel uncomfortable though. The thought of someone falling on their knees begging to be forgiven is, to my mind, something that can only occur in people when they have reached such a depth of despair that there is only one or another path prayer, and the hope some change will occur, or suicide. This then is not a benediction in this song but a curse akin to wishing someone a painful death. Secondly, I worry about the line proclaiming that only a god, unspecified, can forgive some sins. This I find particularly problematic. It is my experience that when forgiveness is asked for by a person it is right that we try to work hard to give it because it starts the process of healing inside the perpetrator and, most importantly, the victim (read these as you please no offence is meant) themselves. As I am making neither ontological nor magical claims the thought that forgiveness is not a purely human affair strikes me as a failure to get over whatever issue has come between them. This seems in direct contrast to the opening lyrics which claims an inner strength is found through the adversity and that the lyricist wishes farewell to the perpertrator neither of which I would suggest come before forgiveness and certainly not in conjuction with the previous wish for them to despair. The song does not ring true given these dynamic tensions. It is my experience of the world that people, when placed in exraordinary circumstances, can perform extraordinary deeds. In this context people can find it in themselves to forgive any deed done against them. It might take time to achieve but folks report an internal peace that replaces the turmoil and roiling hatred that failure to forgive induces. People also report that forgiveness does not mean forgetting but letting go of feelings they cannot overcome and that are destructive in and of themselves regardless of the hurt taken from the initial event. Forgiveness is also something we practice in our life- the hurtful things that may be said at the end of a relationship stew inside for a while and then go as we move on. Forgiveness is then something uniquely human and I would suggest needs no mediating diety- its a people thing.

The text is a little... Small. Consider it against Barrielles' "Gravity." Sorry, it just reads petty to me.

Well, Gravity seems to be about a romantic relationship that didn't work out. This song is about recovering from abuse. Given that context I hardly find it petty

Agree wholeheartedly...I really, really miss the Dream Team: David Hurley, Robin Tyson, Paul Phoenix, Phillip Lawson, Chris Gabbitas and Stephen Connelly. I've been a fan for 40 years and most especially since the arrival of the incomparable David Hurley (now sadly retired). This current line-up has a long way to go.

@@gkibani Possibly the album "Simple Gifts." But they also did some great recordings in the early 90's, and a good "Beatles Connection" in the 80's. There are others too, but those stand out to me.

To be fair I think they’re still excellent musiciens, but they’ve - and perhaps a reflection of their relative youth - gone for a more ‘commercial’ approach...
