This is it, kids. You may be hip to The Beatles, Stones,The Band, The Grateful dead, et.al., but if you ain't hip to The Kinks, do yourselves a favor and dig deep into their music - you'll be glad you did. They are every bit as important, and maybe more... Totally under rated, and I just don't know why...
Although i fully lived the sixties and seventies (being 70 today) i only now begin to really appreciate the wonderful and powerful ever lasting poetry of the Kinks.
Muziekgnot = you're the same age as me then?, we were very lucky, we lived through a time when music was good, and the words were understandable and each song was an individual song and not a clone of some utter tripe like the songs of today! Bands { or groups as we called them then } came together naturally, not put together like boy bands of today! I don't regret getting old, but, if I'd known I was going to live to this age I'd have looked after myself a bit better! :-D
One of many great songs on "Sleepwalker", a great mid period Kinks album that doesn't get the kudos it deserves in my opinion. If you like this, you should definitely check out the album.
I'm beginning to think the Kinks may be the best rock band of all time. Not nearly as melodious as the beatles, but much more influential and versatile.
vennie brice I actually think Ray has some of the best melodies of all time. Especially the early days, there could be 3 or 4 great distinct melodies in one song, like you see in "Autumn Almanac" or "Dead End Street"
Ray and Dave should be up there amongst the greats. To see a band with that talent again won’t be in our future I lament but we’ll always have these vids to remind us when popular music peaked
Try not to listen if I'm talking in my sleep. Try not to notice when I start to crawl and creep. Try not to listen when I mumble like a loon. It's just another full moon. It's just another full moon. You see before you a truly broken man. When it gets past midnight, I don't know who I am. Full moon's a-callin', and it put a curse on me, And it will never set me free. The full moon's still up there,
this was the kinks back to thier best with those 60s harmonies.sleepwalker was massive in the states and put them back on top where they belonged...the elvs are a calling and singing my tune...
Haven't you noticed a kind of madness in my eyes? It's only me, dear, in my midnight disguise. So pay no attention if I crawl across the room. It's just another full moon.
Like a great white balloon. The owls are a-callin', And they're singin' my tune. The night keeps a-callin'. I wish the day would come soon, To get away from another full moon. It's just another full moon. When it get past midnight And the shadows on the wall 'Cause you can't have the moonlight And the shadows off the wall If the face in the mirror Isn't you at all, It's just another full moon. It's just another full moon. It's just another full moon.
thanks for uploading this great footage of the Kinks. I think they were in their prime around this time(and they look unusually sober). never heard this 1 before or stormy sky. really enjoyed it. thanks again.
Absolute true life. Alcoholics rejoice. The fear from a weary world. All the bad people should run away from the kinks. (I am sure they do). This is beyond totally cool. It is so real and true for all the broken hearted in the world. This guy is a super genius. He cares big time for people. The band is on hero status. Thin Lizzy is also on that level in my opinion. Phil Lynott. Do not throw your gifts into the air. Keep them forever.
Lyrics Haven't you noticed a kind of madness in my eyes? It's only me, dear, in my midnight disguise. Pay no attention if I crawl across the room. It's just another full moon. Don't be afraid of me when I'm walking in my sleep. Don't get alarmed, dear, when I start to crawl and creep. Try not to listen when I mumble like a loon. It's just another full moon. It's just another full moon. You see before you a truly broken man. 'Cause when it gets to midnight, I don't know who I am. Full moon's a-callin', and it's put a curse on me, And it will never set me free. The full moon's still up there, Like a great white balloon. The owls are a-callin', And they're singin' my tune. The night keeps a-callin'. I wish the day would come soon, To get away from another full moon. Here comes another full moon. If your hands start shakin' When night starts to fall, If you're scared of the moonlight And the shadows on the wall, If the face in the mirror Isn't you at all, It's just another full moon. It's just another full moon. La la la la la la. La la la la la la. La la la la la la. La la la la la la. It's just another full moon.
This was the tour that I first saw them. I was only able to see them 12 more times. The last time I was to see them in 1992 the concert was canceled and they broke up.
In the late 70"s Disco was huge, and I detested it. Some rockers thought they should incorporate the Disco sound and meld it with their own brand of Rock n Roll, ie: the Stone and Rod Stewart, the result in my opinion was disastrous. Thank God for the Kinks Sleepwalker, good song writing with amazing musicianship. Honerable mention should also go to J. Geils. Monkey Island, and also Pink Floyd Animals. Not a hint of Disco in all 3 albums....
Ray is noticeably struggling with the high notes, but still a great video. I saw the Kinks before this in 69 and 72 . Those shows were fun, but pretty ragged. Their concerts were much more professional from the late 70s on, at least as I perceived it.
