They actually ruined their own chances in American in ‘66 and were banned so they are only underrated by self promotion. They were out doing the Beatles but couldn’t control themselves. Lol. Wildly successful later but they are legends in the industry.

Fun fact: Dave and Ray have been known to get into fights on stage on occasion. I don't know if there's any RU-vid footage to back this up but as someone who's followed them since 1980 I know I've heard a few reports here and there. At the end of Dave's guitar solo Ray appears to walk over to him as if to say, 'That was a pretty long solo, don't you think.' Dave glares back as if to say, 'Go ahead. Start anytime.' Then Ray walks away laughing as if to say, 'Forget it. It's not worth it.' Those two had a real love/hate relationship between them.

I am almost done with Dave Davies' excellent autobiography "Kink" right now and it has given me a new appreciation for this band. They can't be under rated when they were one of the early Rock and Roll Hall of Fame inductees but in my opinion they were more consistant than The Stones or The Who or Pink Floyd. They put out some seriously great music in the late 70s and early 80s

@@luvittodeath7031 Ray Davies, back in the 60s, actually said The Kinks were "pop music" - as in popular music - and called their music "expression." 1979. Was breaking up with the love of my life, and separating after 7 yrs of living with my girlfriend. But it was amicable. Separate apts in LA, Superman was a powerful radio disco-rock hit then; like the Stones "Miss You' i loved the song. We had tickets to see The Kinks at the Universal Amphitheater when it was still outdoors. So, my kid brother 'Beaver', girlfriend and I saw the Kinks live. They played everything; all their hits. Dave shredded guitar, hit all the high harmony hits, and brother Ray was rock steady...and just the genius he is, Ray Davies. Superman? They blew Superman away! Tremendous live! you should have been there was, I talked to my kid brother tonight on the phone, and have talked to my former girlfrend whom I have known 46 years about that concert. Glad got to see a really really band in their prime, The Kinks.

Jim Rodford was great, I think the bass is what makes it disco danceable.

Ray hated disco, but did it to please Clive Davis at Arista, who wanted a "club" song. Dave initially didn't think much of the song, but the humor kept them going long enough to really nail it.

This is not the cut from the live album. I can't remember why (what cut) I bought this album for, I wasn't really a Kinks fan, but I was surprised how many songs I already knew, probably ten. The whole thing rocks.

Kinks fan (big kinks fan) but this song was meant to stay a disco one off. Love hearing the studio version once in awhile.

I didn't care for this version when I first heard it as, when I was a kid when this came out, I absolutely LOVED it. After a few listens, this version really grew on me!
