I mean to be fair titan has upped their quality from where they started as purely cheap chinesium garbage. Thats when i bought my rack from them, definitely wasnt quality but its been good for me the past 5yr lol
Yes ring colors please. Really like this design. I bet we start seeing a lot more collars in the future with this style of locking. Thanks so much for sharing.
Torture Fail! Did not get yeeted off a roof on a Rogue DB15 dumbbell handle with two 45lb dumbbell bumpers! c'mon Coop, those green bumpers are good for this!!!
I discovered titan fitness in 2015 and I exclusively only bought equipment from them just because the quality has always been amazing for home use and the free shipping cannot be beat!! Titan is my saving grace unfortunately I can never get my hands on their bumper plates because they’re always sold out like their adjustable 200lb dumbells!! I did get my bar from rogue because the boneyard had Ohio bars for $150 which got me a beautiful black oxide Ohio bar but I did get the 60 in bar from titan for small accessory work and because of my limited space it allows me to do barbell exercises in a limited amount of space
10:51 I love my 2" dumbell weights (like the green one) to use on a barbell I feel if you are not lifting 100s of lbs, there is no need for the cumbersome larger diameter 45 lb weights, unless you need the height for deadlifts. There's plenty of room on the loading pin to put 200-250 lbs on, enough for me who isn't super strong and never does heavy singles due to advanced age
whats the locking mechanism? the real question is would repeated drops- ie testing not brand new but after months of overhead drops- would it still be gripping and holding comparable to brand new, would repeated drops be damaging the lock mechanism over time
I've been trying to find the perfect collar for my young kid. I don't trust him to use the Rogue aluminum ones without losing a finger or breaking his hand taking them off. These might just be the perfect solution!
Hmmmm... was very interested to use at my gym because all the plastic collars are worn and loose... but $70 is kinda steep for a quick fix. Especially simce the Rogue's are $20 cheaper and hold better. I HATE wobbly plates lol
Cool idea and looks like a solid product but not sure I can justify spending over $50 on barbell collars. Also, agree that the Rogue collars are better in terms of security but have you ever hit your knuckle with the clasp? Ouch! Not hard to do especially when tired...
I really like these had I not picked up the rogue aluminum ones I probably would get these. Getting the rogue ones off and on are a little bit of a bitch for an old weak handed putz like myself...
If you don't do anything crazy with the bar just go to harbor freight. Buy some cheap plastic clamps that are big enough. They're like 2$ each. I use them all the time on squat and deadlift. I have even used them on Olympic lifts to varying degrees of success. If they break no big deal go buy another one or two or just put duct tape on it.
testing HOLD is best done w/ multiple plates like 45s and 3pr of 10s so you get the energy transfer effect which really loosens... especially from an overhead drop onto stall mats on concrete
There are so many other products on the market that are functional for sooo much less. The price point is too high for something with a lot of other economic competitors.
I had the Eleiko collars. They sucked, I sold them. Ton of force to lock and unlock them, not faster than my cheapie plastic snap collars at all. Maybe it was an early batch that was made poorly but that's what you get when you outsource to Asia.
I'll stick with my $10 Olympic Barbell Spring collars and my $15 Olympic plastic clamp collars because they do what they are supposed to do-- that is, hold Olympic weight plates in place when I bench press, press, clean and jerk, row, deadlift, and squat. Besides, I have no intention of standing my Olympic Barbell on its end. Perhaps, if I did bent presses, like Eugene Sandow and other old-time strongmen used to do, I would consider buying the strongest barbell collar possible. I rather use the money I save to buy other exercise equipment, like a steel mace.
I have a friend he owns a CrossFit gym he bought some pull up bars for his rig to add to the class rig and 2 of them was from titan fitness. He had 2 people jump up on the titan bar and after the first person it was fine the second person the next day the bar broke off the rig the bar was bolted in to the up rights all the holes had bolts in it was super tight as well. The bar broke at the right after the bracket that attaches to the rig the weld broke on it. They refuse to use titan equipment for now on.
Is there a concern that people might put the collar on the barbell and forget to tighten it, and from a glance you can't tell whether it is tight or not? It would be nice if there's a little window that turns red if it is locked.
Do people actually care if it's a "one hand operation" to put a collar on? Because if so most collars and even spring clips are one hand operations so I don't get how that's a selling point when the cheapest product out there is easy to put on with one hand.
Hmm ... no collars for bench press. When I was a teenager and we had a cheap set of non-olympic weights. I was doing incline bench press and went probably one rep too many. Unfortunately, my left side hits failure a lot faster/harder than my right side and the bar went on an angle as I was struggling to get the bar up (no safeties on a bench like this so it was either get the weight up or start yelling for help). The plate on the end started sliding due to the angle which dragged my left side down more/fasster as the weight got closer to the end. I started to try and counter by bringing the right side down. It was all happening too fast and the plate already had too much momentum and went flying off the left side. At this point, the barrel basically went out of my control due to the imbalance, sudden weight change and fact that I was actually dropping the weight on my right side. The bar flipped out of my hands to the right of me. Luckily it had enough momentum and flipped away from me and didn't come back towards me hitting me in the noggin! It wasn't a lot of weight but having a barbell and weights flinging out of your hands definitely was a bit scary. Not to mention I banged one of the walls in our basement. No safeties and crap equipment was the real issue, but ever since then, I use secure collars when I bench. Better safe than sorry.
Shouldn’t use collars for bench press? Especially being a garage gym channel you think all people can just dump plates everywhere? Using collars with a spotter arms/straps is fine.
You’re absolutely in the wrong. If people decide to ego lift.. and not complete it.. drop 365 or 405 on your chest and see what you got left to put it up. Accidents happen. No collar gang all day.
Fair enough. I don’t know how common it is for spotter arms to fail.. I’d rather rely on them just as I’m relying on the j cups to not fail. And I don’t have to worry about my garage gym weights moving on the bar. And if you’re dropping 405 on yourself you have different problems.
Only three countries - the U.S., Liberia and Myanmar - still officially or actually stick to the imperial system, so sorry to the European country’s that got offended. Metric all the way.
Please make sure you put your safety collars on and the safety bars. Okay be safe. Oh but you can't get full Rom...it's not dumbell bench it's bench press smh 🤦 be safe please equipment is not meant to be dropped and broken especially if your not paying for replacements you know who you are pos. Smh
