It's interesting to see Sugar Ray's face afterwards. There's no happiness, no joy of victory, just pure concern for his fallen opponent. I really respect his compassion.

It's Glen Eaton I'm taking nothing away from Ray as he was a great fighter, but his "most remarkable performance??" Given Dave Green was nowhere near in Ray's league, this is a bit tricky. In fact the gulf in class is so wide the bout shouldn't have been sanctioned. Not good for boxing as Green could've been seriously hurt or worse.

I am still amazed that Sugar survived the fight with Tommy "Hit Man" Hearns. The Hagler fight was different because his plan was to steal rounds against Marvelous and not really mix it up. In the fight with Hearns they mixed it up for 14 rounds and I think Sugar was behind on the scorecards when he finally won by TKO. That was one hell of a fight.

The fact that Ray Leonard borrowed the "sugar" title from Ray Robinson tells us everything we need to know. An era when boxers fought every two weeks. Robinson has been voted pound-pound greatest fighter of all time by boxrec and ring magazine. Only 1 defeat in first 129 bouts. Exceptional footwork and hand speed. Check his record and watch some videos of his bouts😉

@chrischichester4689
@chrischichester4689 2 года назад
@@milojanis4901 - Did you watch Leonard-Hagler? Leonard won the first four rounds easily. This is called boxing. Leonard is not Thomas Hearns and Thomas Hearns is on his back in possibly the most exciting 8 minutes in boxing history against Hagler. Leonard wins the first four rounds against Hagler and it’s not even a close 10-9 round. That means Hagler must win six of the next eight rounds just to salvage a draw. He didn’t. Leonard knew he had the fight won in the 12th and he didn’t need the 12th to win and that is why he is moving with such completeness in his footwork. Guess who also was convinced with absolute certainty Leonard won. Angelo Dundee. Perhaps you’ve heard of Muhammad Ali’s trainer. Dundee is screaming “Six Minutes!” and “Champ!” at the end of the 10th because he knew Leonard won the fight already. He’s not going to lie to Leonard because he told Leonard “you’re blowing son” against Hearns. Nowadays, we have fighters that fight 2-3 times a year (if that) and avoid stiff competition. I hope I see the day when a boxing commission is created to force the best to fight the best annually. There are maybe 2-3 fighters that are legitimate right now, but who they fight, and when, will always be controlled by punk ass promoters.

Idk who the commentator is but that right cross suger through early on was most definitely not blocked! Split his guard perfectly timed and the crowd got it right when they cheered not Mr mic!

Dave Green was actually a pretty good fighter, tough, experienced with some solid wins. SRL made him look like a rank amateur! Ray did the same thing to Andy Price, another very good and experienced boxer.
