tldr: The Korean war was started by 2 outside nations using Koreans as proxies
@kn0wmore126
@kn0wmore126 Год назад
Well, actually started by one. The USSR, a neighboring country, was there to assist the Koreans, as they had only just become independent and needed to form a government and get things organized so there would be lawlessness. And yes, it's true, it's very unlikely they had to interests other than providing assistance, but they weren't there to take things over from where the Japs left off, nor to start a war against the people of Korea, let alone a proxy war against the US. To what end? Insecurity on their own border? The Americans, on the other hands, coming from the other side of the planet, were there for 1 reason, and 1 reason only: Get rid of the communists, no matter the cost for the Korean population, or the future of Korea itself. They cut Korea in half (38th parallel), outlawed the PRK which was only just taking form, and installed a US military government. The "good" guys killed about 20% of the population in North Korea though carpet-bombing campaigns and napalm on military & civilians alike (indiscriminate). When reports came out, they labeled it communist propaganda and used it to vilify their opponents... And guess what, they're still using that very same tactic, and it still works like a charm. People still fall for it, every.time.

It was started by Stalin, by setting fires in the Korean peninsula, it will make China and the US forever enemies and China will be under its belt. Chinese and American started killing each other, the soviets just watched. There is no gain for anybody but the soviets.

@@cualcualcual Let me try to answer your question from North Korea perspective. Because, their down turn was not purely their fault. It was all caused by US sanctions, there were industries during the 60s, lived better than the south before 80s. They could grow as soon the the global political situations eases. They believe it is just a matter of time the US influence leaves Asia. once that happens. the situation for North and South Korea may reverse. If the Soviet union won the cold war, south Korea will be in the situation which North Korea is at.

so...there's a lot here that is born out of American blind spots and inherent misunderstanding of the conflict between the two Koreas. First, When the Japanese Empire was defeated, the US viewed Korea as a victim of Japanese Imperialism but viewed Korea with high degree of mistrust. To that end, while the DPRK was organizing along its own nationalist groups vying for political primacy, populist movements gained tremendous ground and land reforms took place without the same level of violence seen during the Cultural Revolution. Meanwhile, the US instituted AMG, American Military Government, reinstalled many of the Korean collaborators who worked hand in hand with Japanese colonial administrators and the KNP, Korean National Police, consisted of 10,000 agents who were all formerly of the Japanese armed forces and many of the ROK Army's leadership served in the Japanese Army or even the Kwantung Army when Japan instituted the colonial holding Manchuquo. General Park Jung-hee, Korea's generalissimo who seized power in a coup in 1961 was an officer in the Kwantung Army. We say the war began in 1950, but the fact is the conflict between the Koreas was more or less a civil war that had began in the 1930s. There had been armed conflict all along the 38th parallel in 1949, most of the conflict instigated by ROK Army forces. ROK Army soldiers attacked Kaesong and multiple times meanwhile populist uprisings on Che-ju Island and Cholla in the southwest were blamed on DPRK and Soviet Russia despite there being no links, rather the uprisings and revolts were in response to Syngmun Rhee's authoritarian and tyrannical rule that adopted many of the brutal policies and practices the Japanese Imperialists imposed. We think of the Korean War as war of communist aggression limited to a 3 year period but the conflict has been much deeper and much longer than that and still goes on today.

@acerock013 your comment while partially true is extremely one sided blaming nearly everything on the Americans and the ROK. You completely ignore the carefully planned and brutal KPA aggression including the cold blooded murder of ROK and American POWs by KPA and Communist Chinese forces for which the Korean War is primarily remembered by most people. The truth is both the ROK and the KPA committed many, many war crimes between 1950 and 1953. But the United States, far from being the "imperialist power" Communists always portrayed it as, was and generally is isolationist. Thus President Truman despite many bad things occurring in Korea and worldwide was in no position to treat Korea with anything but neglect between 1945 and 1950. Truman thus permitted the mighty 1945 U.S. military to decline into a fifth rate military by 1950 which until late July 1950 could spare few if any professional soldiers to help defend South Korea. In July 1950 all Truman could spare for South Korea were occupation troops from Japan who were nowhere near ready for combat against any seasoned enemy army. Meanwhile during the 1950 KPA invasion many KPA troops were well trained professional soldiers who had been with Mao's Communist forces in China during and after World War II.

My vonstructive criticism is you gotta be more accurate with the maps (taiwan is shown as part of mao Zedong's china for example, and the border between north and south korea before the war is not the right shape in your map. Also, qhen shoeinf the territory changing hands during the initial phases of the war, paonting the area co trolled by each faction wpuldve been very illustrative.
